KNIGHT'S TALE St.Joseph Council 16293, Upland California

May is the

Month of

Mary

May is the Month of Mary

The Blessed Virgin Mary offered the disciples her prayers, motherly care, and witness. She continues to offer us her motherly love and intercession. During this month of May, let us rediscover her maternal role in each of our lives. Let us offer our spiritual mother our sincere prayers, that just as she aided the first Apostles with her prayers, she may also guide and intercede for us in our journey of faith. Let us learn from her how to love and trust God completely and how to be faithful witnesses of the risen Lord.

Upcoming Council Events

With Memorial Day just around the corner, Mothers Day, Father's Day, and graduations soon to be upon us, thoughts of vacations with our families and loved ones to the beach, mountains, and other places beyond suddenly loom large on our calendars. Take them and refresh yourselves. But in the meantime, when you find yourself with nothing to do, here are some events you can participate in.

Wednesday, May 16, 7 pm. Business Meeting in the OLG Room.

This is election night for Council Officers for the coming Colombian Year, 2017-2018. There have been some changes to the proposed slate presented in the last newsletter. Here is the current proposed list from the Council Board of Officers.

The position of Financial Secretary is an appointed position by the Grand Knight for a period of three years.

The position of Chaplain, is also an appointed position, by the Grand Knight.

Any third degree Knight may run for office, provided that someone else nominates him and the nominee must accept the nomination for office. All members present are allowed to vote. Elections are won by a majority vote of those present at the business meeting.

Officers are elected for a one year term, except for the appointed positions, and serve for the Colombian year, July 1 to June 30.

The Fourth Degree was established on February 22nd, 1900 on the principle of patriotism - love for and devotion to one's country. Fourth Degree Knights, or Sir Knights as they are called, focus the majority of their activities on this principle. It is the highest and most prestigious degree within the Knights of Columbus. It is a group of outstanding Knights who are dedicated to the service of the Church, their Country and our Order.

Special Thanks

A special thanks to Joe Villalobos who generously donated a substantial portion of the cost towards the purchase of new flag ornament eagle. The old one was made of plastic and was seriously damaged. The new one is made of metal and should withstand any abuse.

Joe is also to be praised for his many efforts in improving the appearance of the church grounds. He recently refurbished the wooden tables on the patio by taking them apart, replacing damaged portions and repainting them. He has recently been seen planting a tree on church grounds. And he has helped Fr. Tim in saving $800 by organizing a group of men for traffic control on Easter Sunday.
