OLMC Knights welcome a special visit from……….

More info on PG 6!

We just completed a very successful raffle drive for our council. I want to thank everyone for your efforts to make this a success. The money we raised will go to several worthy causes within our community. There are a few we will be involved in this month. Please see below for some of those details.

I had the opportunity, along with several other Brother Knights to attend the “Step into the Breach Retreat” last month. It made me recall we stand for as Knights. We are called to be defenders of our faith and to stand side by side with Jesus at the Cross. In today’s society, we need to be able to defend our faith. Are you equipped

with the tools to defend your Church? What are you doing to sharpen your “sword”? We must continually learn about our faith by attending and participating in Bible studies, retreats or conferences to arm ourselves. I encourage all Knights to make it a goal to attend at least one spiritual retreat every year.

Prayer to Mary Queen of the KnightsOur Lady, Queen of the Knights, bless all the activities of our order. Keep us true to the pledge to extend the kingship of thy Divine Son on earth. Through Thine intercession, win for us the grace ever to exemplify in our public and private lives, the virtues, which should characterize those specially dedicated to the service of the heavenly court. Make us always aware that as your Knights we are constantly observed, our faith judged and our order appreciated. Accept O Mary, this renewed pledge of fealty and devotion of thy servants, the Knights

Prayer for “Good of the Order”

Dear Jesus, Devine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to You in this time of illness. O dearest Comforter of the Troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with Your entle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in your hands. We ask that You restore Your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and know that whatsoever You do, You do for the love of us. Amen.

Why is October the Month of the Rosary? October 10th is the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, sometimes referred to as the Feast of the Holy Rosary. The day was dedicated by St. Pius V who credited a victory over the invading Turks to the intercession of Mary through the rosary. Pope Benedict XVI described the image of Our Lady of the Rosary in a 2007 Angelus:

“The traditional image of Our Lady of the Rosary portrays Mary who with one arm supports the Child Jesus and with the other is offering the rosary beads to St Dominic. This important iconography shows that the Rosary is a means given by the Virgin to contemplate Jesus and, in meditating on his life, to love him and follow him ever more faithfully. It is this message that Our Lady has also bequeathed to us in her various apparitions.” (Benedict XVI, Angelus, October 7, 2009)

1571 - The Battle of LepantoThe victory at Lepanto is the most famous and important of the military victories through the Rosary. On October 7, 1571 the Turk's attempted to invade Christian Europe at Lepanto on the coast of Greece. The Pope asked Catholics to pray the Rosary with the intention that the Turk's attack would fail. The Christians were out numbered 3 to 1. As the Turks sailed across the sea, a sudden storm emerged and 200 Turkish ships and 50,000 of their men sank. Thanks to the Rosary prayers and against all odds, the Christians were victorious.

On September 18,2019, Sir Knight Thomas “Tom” Cass turned 94 years! Tom is one of our oldest living Knights from our council. Tom has been a member of our parish since he turned 11 years old in 1936. He was Grand Knight from 1975-1976. Many fellow Knights, families and friends came out to celebrate Tomʼs birthday to include a special blessing by Rev. Mark Chamberlin. To this date, Tom continues to be active with the Knights. Tom continues to enjoy his daily peanut butter and banana sandwich and he devotes himself daily to reading out loud the Daily word, the scriptures and praying for all his fellow brother Knights and his beloved wife. May God bless you with His boundless love, calming peace, and heavenly joy through the coming year. Vivat Jesus!!

In March 2019, Our Lady of Guadalupe Silver Rose - One Life, One Rose Program will begin when eight Silver Roses start their journeys on various routes in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Three routes will end in Mexico, another three in Texas, one other in Washington, D. C., and the eighth route will complete its journey at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT, where the Knights of Columbus was founded. All eight of the routes will conclude their journeys on December 12, 2018 on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, the same day when the three Silver Roses in Mexico reach the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey.

2018 marks the 58th year of the program, which began in 1960 to honor the Blessed Virgin under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. The program has continued since then as a project of Knights of Columbus councils and Fourth Degree assemblies in several jurisdictions.

In 2001, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson expanded the program by beginning the “Running of the Rose” from the 119th Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council in Toronto. This is “a perfect program for the Knights of Columbus,” said Supreme Knight Anderson. “Through it we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Order, but we also reaffirm the Order’s dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think in terms of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses.”

Today, eight Silver Roses travel through North America exemplifying Knights of Columbus devotion to Our Lady and commitment to the Culture of Life.

The Silver Rose will be at our OLMC parish from October 6th-11th. It will be available for viewing in the Adoration Chapel and a box will be there for all your prayer petitions that will accompany the Silver Rose to its final destination in Monterrey, Mexico where all the petitions will be read and prayed upon.

RUNNING OF THE SILVER ROSE!

Silver Rose Run 2019 – Visit to the Shrine The Silver Rose symbolizes the commitment of the Knights of Columbus to restoring respect for the sanctity of human life from conception until death. This year the Knights are “running” five Silver Roses across Canada and the United States. The five roses come together in Texas to travel over the International Bridge on 12 December 2019 and handed over to the Knights from Monterrey to its final destination.
