The book contains: the history, apparitions, symbolism, conversions through the Miraculous Medal and the biography of Sister Catherine Labouré, the apostle of the Miraculous Medal.

A few days after the atheist Alphonse Ratisbonne agreed to wear the Miraculous Medal, he converted to the Catholic Faith. His story inspired St. Maximilian to make wearing the Miraculous Medal a condition of membership in the Militia Immaculatæ.

Editorial

One of the most important elements in our life is the act of consecra-tion, which consists essentially of a firm act of will. This act of will is an answer to a call from Heaven! God calls us to become His children and heirs of Heaven through the sacrament of Baptism. But he will not force us to do so, He wants an answer, a clear and unequivocal “Yes”. These are the so called vows of Baptism, by which we consecrate ourselves to belong to Jesus Christ with a living faith. This is the initial consecration to God, which will be renewed every year and somehow extended when we prom-ise God to live as soldiers of Christ (sacrament of Confirmation), when someone called to a religious vocation makes an act of total surrender of himself through the sacred vows of religion etc.

We understand easily the meaning of these consecrations: we belong to God and receive His graces and favours only insofar as we really want them. And the act of wanting them is the act of consecration.

We know that it is God’s will that we return to Him only through Mary: only insofar as we want her to be our mother and queen, and consequently we ourselves to be her child and slave, will she enter our life, be our refuge and the way to Heaven. Many people think that the consecration to her consists of a beautiful prayer which is to be repeated from time to time. It is true that this prayer called the act of consecration, helps a lot to grasp its meanings, its foundation, its goal and its modus operandi. But the act itself consists in a firm act of will to surrender, dedicate and offer ourselves to Our Lady. The more frequently, the more intensively we repeat this act of will, the more we allow HER to penetrate us with her light, love and graces.

We become Knights of the Immaculata through the act of consecration composed by Saint Maximilian Kolbe. The essential point of this act is the firm will to be henceforth always and everywhere the instrument in Our Lady’s hands to allow her to use us as channels by which she can pass the graces of conversion and sanctification from her Immaculate Heart into the souls of poor sinners. This firm act of will brings about a deep change in our inner life. Although externally all may remain the same, the very intentions of our acts, words and desires are lifted up to the supernatu-

Dear Knights of the Immaculata!

ral level, to the highest possible value they can ever attain: they become “consecrated”, which means: holy, pure, eternal, powerful, because they participate in the holiness, purity, eternity, and power of the Immaculata!

It is astonishing how much such a sincere act of consecration pleases Our Lord, that He gives so many graces to the person who pronounces it. The Church often grants a plenary indulgence for such acts of consecration.

Why, then, are we able to forget this new dignity so easily, these in-credible graces and this lifting up of our personality from our miserable nothingness unto the infinities of Heaven? Why do we neglect to accom-plish acts which surpass the whole cosmos, and occupy ourselves almost only with our thousands of mean and ridiculous nothings?

One of the reasons is that we have insufficient esteem and understand-ing of our consecration. Therefore, we should meditate on it from time to time (a booklet “Consecration to the Immaculata” has been written for its thorough preparation, with comments by St. Maximilian Kolbe him-self). Another reason is that we do not renew it often enough. Our founder wishes that we renew it often, especially on feasts of Our Lady. But the most important reason is that we do not make efforts to LIVE it.

What does it mean, to LIVE the act of consecration? Very easy: that we strive to accomplish what we say, what we promise. And this is a lifelong learning! It is to resign from doing things by ourselves, and instead, to do them with HER! Only in the measure that we are obedient to our parents are we a true and good child, only if we submit ourselves to the King are we his faithful subjects. Only if we accomplish the will of our heavenly mother, are we her instruments.

Therefore, allow me to propose to you as a RESOLUTION for the upcoming year 2019 that we treat our act of consecration more serious-ly. To try every day, more and more, to give HER control over our words, actions, works, recreations etc. For example, if we always ask HER how to use our cell-phones and computers, and we use them according to HER will, then and only then, will we LIVE our consecration.

With my priestly blessingsFr. Karl Stehlin

St. Maximilian about the feast...

St. Maximilian on the feast of the

Immaculate Conception

The 8th of December is the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, our Feast; ours in the fullest sense of the word... For it is the named day of the Mother of God and our Mother, precisely, under the title of Immaculata.

To the male and female members of her Militia it is a day of spe-cial graces, and they ought to prepare for it adequately.

How should they do that?On that day, all those who are enlisted under her banner, with-

out exception, must not neglect Holy Communion. They should ap-proach the Altar, if possible together, and with a pure heart. For only a pure soul may be disposed to receive graces. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus is the source of grace from which the Immaculata, Our Lady and Queen, takes and liberally dispenses, not according to our merits.

What else?Let us pray to the Immaculata with fervour, that she may accept

us as her own property. We can do that by using the act of consecra-

tion to the Immaculata printed on our certificate. Thus, on this day, all of us Knights of the Immaculata renew our act of uncon-ditional surrender to her.

Some of us may already have forgotten to recite that short lit-tle prayer every day: the ejaculatory prayer that the Immaculata herself taught us, the one listed in our certificate as one of the means. May such people be rekindled and resolve to no longer neglect it.

Also... each of us ought to ask ourselves: Have I done all I could in the course of this year for the Immaculata, for the sal-vation and sanctification of my soul and my neighbour's? Or am I being reproached by my conscience for my la-ziness, listlessness, my poor zeal... or my want of self-sac-rifice?... Let us examine our-selves...

Let this day be a day of re-birth for our souls, a day of re-newal in our zeal for expand-ing the kingdom of the Most Loving Queen of Heaven and earth.

Let us entrust all our en-deavours to her and we shall surely achieve what she wants.

St. Maximilian about the Immaculate Conception

To St. Bernadette, who had questioned her repeatedly in Lourdes, the Immaculate Virgin answered: "I am the Immaculate Conception." With these words she clearly stated that not only was she "conceived without sin" but that she was the "Immaculate Conception" itself, just as a white object is more than its whiteness, or a perfect object is more than its perfection.

Immaculate Conception — these words came out of the mouth of the Immaculata herself; and so, they must indicate most precisely, most essentially, who she is.

Who are you, O Immaculate Conception? Not God, who has no beginning, nor angel created

directly out of nothing, nor Adam formed from the mud of the earth, nor Eve taken from Adam, nor the Incarnate Word, who has existed through the ages and is something conceived rather than conception. The children of Eve did not exist before conception, so they can be called conception more fittingly, but you are different from all of them, because they are conceptions tainted by original sin, but you alone are the Immaculate Conception.

St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe was so impressed with Fr. Emile Neubert’s works that he struck up a friendship with him, and worked tirelessly to promote the sale of his books.

The Immaculata — the Queen of Knights

St. Maximilian had said of Fr. Neubert’s book “My Ideal, Jesus, Son of Mary” that it was written in the spirit of the M.I.

This book was published in 1933, Holy Year of the Redemption.

During the lifetime of the author, the book had an ex-traordinary circulation in France, in Europe, and in the world. It was translated into all the languages of Europe, into Japanese and even into Arabic and into the Zulu lan-guage, with over 500,000 copies sold worldwide. This book is truly a “best seller”

of Our Lady. Its success was due to a strong and gentle synthesis of faith and devo-tion, of prayer and action, of simplicity and depth, cen-tered on Christ and Mary. We are to take into our own lives Mary (Jn 19:27) as mother and allow her to guide us to a more intense intimacy with Jesus and the apostolate.

St. Maximilian didn't know most of the other books by Fr. Neubert, because they were published after the death of St. Maximilian.

St. Maximilian would agree with the writ-

ings of Fr. Neubert in his book "Queen of Militants".

"Mary is the generalissimo of the army of Christ which battles against the army of Satan. Therefore, just as the man who wants to defend his country against the invader Fr. Emile Neubert

do not always conduct them-selves according to His teach-ings. Do you not see that a mil-itant does on a small scale the same work that our Heavenly Mother does?

Of course, she does all of this infinitely better than any militant. Our Blessed Mother really gave us Christ, while militants merely obtain for

will enroll himself in the army of the general-in-chief, so:

Must you enroll your-self in the army of

the Blessed Virgin.

It is true that a man can at-tempt to fight against the in-vader without belonging to the troops of the commanding general. Although by so doing he often brings more trouble upon his fellow citizens than he inflicts harm upon the en-emy. But without Mary no one can combat Satan victoriously, because we can do nothing without grace and all grace comes to us through Mary."

Fr. Neubert asked: "What is the function of a militant?" And answered: "To give Christ to those who do not know Him or do not serve Him; to give greater life to those who are in the state of grace but who

souls the Christ given to the world by Mary.

She is occupied constant-ly in making us live the

life of Christ, in sending us graces without interruption, while ordinary militants busy themselves with works of zeal only from time to time and in their free moments.

Our Mother puts much more zeal, love, delicacy, skill, and strength into this apostolate

than the most perfect militant you have ever seen.

She is concerned with giv-ing Christ to all souls — the souls of the Chinese and the Negroes as well as the in-habitants of Europe and the Americas — while a militant devotes himself to only some of these; and she is engaged in this work not for just a few years as we are, but from the Incarnation till the end of the world."

"The Immaculate Virgin is the woman who must crush the head of the serpent. To her, God has entrusted the war against Satan and his seed. She is the commanderin-chief empow-ered with the strategy of the war. In this war, you are only a soldier. And whether the sol-dier knows his supreme com-mander or not, he but partici-pates in his plans, fulfills his orders, and aids in his victories.

When you have suc-ceeded in revealing

Christ to a soul, you have sim-ply helped Mary in her mis-sion of giving Christ to the world.

You have been able to aid her only because she herself first of all helped you — exactly as the soldier who has helped his general to win the battle first received from his general through the lower-ranking of-ficers the supplies and espe-cially the commands that have made it possible for him to con-tribute towards the victory.

Soldier of Mary, when you saved a soul, it was through her and for her that you snatched that soul from Satan — even though, perhaps, you were not aware of it.

When you felt the desire to become a militant, how else did this longing arise in you except by the grace of God?

And how else did this grace come to you except through Mary?

When you made your first timid attempts to talk to oth-ers to make them understand the thoughts of Christ, what inspired you to do this? Was it not grace?

And who sent you this grace? Was it not Mary? When in spite of pitfalls and tempta-tions you continued your task

M

and persevered, where did you get the strength? From grace. And through whom did this grace come to you? Through Mary.

When a companion that you wished to gain to your ideal consented to listen to you, how was that achieved? Through grace, that is, through Mary.

When you succeeded in ac-tually enrolling your friend in the army of Christ, whence came this success? From grace, and therefore, from Mary.

And if your friend, in-stead of turning back

like so many others, perse-veres, to what is this due? To grace; therefore, to Mary.

When a power plant cuts off the current, immediately throughout the system the lights go out, motors stop turning, machines no longer function, sirens are quiet, and streetcars are stalled. Turn the current back on and the whole system comes to life.

In the same way suppose that the distributor of all grac-es would cease for one mo-ment to help apostolic souls.

All the militants of the world, all the missionaries, all the priest, and all the bishops would be helpless to do the least good to even one soul.

Let her but turn back to them again, and at once mil-lions of souls can be converted and become saints."

How the Immaculata has changed my daughter’s heart

For as long as I can remember, my daughter was always very impatient and restless, full of energy and absorbing all my at-tention. She was also unusually reluctant to go to church and to say prayers. The mere going out to church was a huge challenge and when we were in church

Written by the mother of two children, from PolandI am a single mother bringing up two children: Olivia and Carl.

I would like to tell you the story of how the Immaculata has changed my daughter’s heart.

I have never seen a child more restless than Olivia. She kept asking every few minutes when we were going home, she wasn’t able to stay quiet even for a few minutes. It was the same with our prayers in the evening, when I called my children for prayers, my daughter would make any

excuse to avoid kneeling down to say them.

I prayed and pleaded with the Immaculata for help. It lasted quite a long time. At last, I con-fided in my friend, who said that the only remedy at that point was to enrol my daughter into the Militia Immaculatæ. Back then, I did not think that some-thing so simple could transform my child.

A week after this conversation there was a rally for the Militia Immaculatæ in Warsaw (No-vember 2016). I desired to be en-rolled together with my 9-years old son, who never caused me

any trouble. It was a big day in our church, with Father Stehlin preaching. Many families with children attended. Childcare was arranged, so all the parents could listen to Father preaching. My son went off to play with the other children, but my daugh-ter would not leave me, even for a moment.

I filled in two certificates, one for me and one for my son. But, when we were all asked to line up for the ceremony to begin, I couldn’t find my son. Having two certificates in my hand, one for me and one for my son who was nowhere to be seen, I un-derstood that it was my 7-years old daughter, standing by my side, who was to be enrolled. I asked her if she would like to be enrolled with myself and she said ‘yes’ without any hesitation.

Father Stehlin asked my dau-ghter if she would fulfil the Kni-ght’s duties and she wholehear-tedly confirmed that she was ready. Father solemnly put the medals on us, enrolled my dau-ghter into the M.I. and asked me to help her to fulfil the Knight’s obligations.

My daughter was very proud and happy, and I was exhila-

rated. My heart had been very heavy, and it became light again. My daughter glanced at her cer-tificate every day and I remin-ded her about prayers, especia-lly M.I. aspirations. I felt that I received a wonderful grace and a great help. Not everything changed at once, especially pra-yer life. Gradually however, I en-couraged her to say at least very small ejaculatory prayers. After a few months I noticed that my daughter was changing. She de-veloped a taste for movies about saints. In the evenings I read her Father Stehlin’s book about Fati-ma — she listened about Jacinta, Lucy and Francisco with a great interest. One time I told her, by accident really, that one Hail Mary said with devotion makes Hell tremble. I bought her a book about the rosary — my daughter looked through it every day.

One and a half years later, my daughter made friends with one of the girls at school. This girl’s parents were non-believers and they kept watch that their daugh-ter never heard about Our Lord Jesus. When Easter or Christmas was approaching, this girl did not come to school, as they did not want her to take part in any

preparations for the celebrations of those Christian feasts.

One evening my daughter came to me to tell me about her day at school:

— Today I was talking about God with Julia.

— But Julia does not believe — I reply.

— Yes, but she asked me about our God, so I told her about Jes-us and Mary, Mother of God.

Surprised by her story I answered that she should also tell her friend about Heaven and

Hell. My daughter said:— But mom, I told her all of it.And when I was explaining

what else she should say, her answer was always the same:

— I told her that too. I was te-lling Julia all of it and it felt as if I knew it all well.

I said ‘You know a lot then’, but her reply was:

— I know nothing.Julia, her friend, said she

would consider whether she would believe in God, or would rather become like her parents. After a few days my daughter said that her friend was more inclined to believe. For now, she had to listen to her parents, but when she grew up she would be-lieve in God.

Before writing this story up, I asked my daughter for some details. This is what she said:

— Mom, I felt as if it was not me who was talking.

I was very moved. My daughter has changed.

She has matured and settled. She is surprising me by her very mature way of talking about Jesus and Mary. She looks at grownups and notices in them behaviour which is offensive to God. When troubled or in want of something, she prays whole-heartedly.

Once I praised her for being very good in church. She answe-red, that SOMEONE had told her to be good.

When she forgets herself, she gives herself punishment, for example not watching fairy tales.

I profusely thank the Immacu-lata for transforming my child.

She is our remedy and the only refuge.

Pilgrimage in Ontario

Faithful from the Michigan par-ishes, Knights of the M.I. includ-ed in their number, travelled long distances to join a pilgrimage that took place in Ontario, Canada.

On Saturday the 29th of Sep-tember 2018 they walked 10 miles to the Canadian Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland, where Jesuit mis-sionaries located their mission headquarters, named after the Holy Mother of God: Sainte Ma-rie among the Hurons.

Among many flags and ban-ners Knights carried the M.I. flag.

Report from District GB and Scandinavia

In District GB and Scandina-via, out of the 27 Chapels and Mass Centres, enrolments have taken place at 15 of them since the M.I. was launched there in June of 2016. Twelve local co-or-dinators have taken ownership of M.I. Corners, and visiting priests kindly leave flyers, hard-copy Knight magazines and Newslet-ters at 3 further Mass Centres/Chapels for collection by the faith-ful. Additional local co-ordinators are required, especially one for St. Michael’s School. Three more faithful are due to be enrolled dur-ing September. Faithful who at-tend St. David’s Chapel at Rhos-on-Sea in Wales will be invited to enrol in the M.I. on October 21st 2018. A link is being placed in the District Magazine to point any in-terested faithful to the M.I. page

on the District website, and from this it is hoped that more recruits will be forthcoming.

As Fr. Stehlin points out in pre-liminary remark no.5 of the book-let Consecration to the Immacu-lata: “You are a real Knight of the Immaculata only if you endeavour to make those around you interest-ed in and passionate about HER and draw them to HER.” This can be done by collecting Miraculous Medals and flyers from the M.I. Corners and giving them away to anyone showing an interest in saving their soul, and is done with a silent prayer to the Immaculata that this action will result in her graces flowing into the soul of the recipient. This is surely the key to increasing the number of Knights in each District and thereby sav-ing more souls for Our Lord.

The annual pilgrimage to Walsingham (England)

The 2018 annual pilgrimage to Walsingham by supporters of the SSPX attracted 91 souls. The pilgrimage took place on Satur-day the 1st of September, followed by Mass at the Abbey ruins, but some pilgrims remained in the village overnight and Fr. Ockerse offered Mass at the Abbey ruins at 11:00 am on the morning of Sunday the 2nd of September.

The weather was warm, dry and sunny, which was a bless-

ing because a sung Mass was held on the grass surrounding the Abbey ruins at the end of the pilgrimage.

After the Mass, the faithful moved across to the site of the Holy House where Fr. Ockerse led prayers for Priestly and Re-ligious Vocations and for the Solemn Consecration of our Faithful, our Families and our Country to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

that her head rolled down a hill, and, where it came to rest, a spring began to flow. Her uncle, St. Beu-no miraculously restored her head to her body and Winefride went on to become an Abbess, eventually dying around 660AD.

The locals built a chapel above the shrine, and it has been a place

of pilgrimage for the past 1300 years without inter-ruption.

Many miracles have been attributed to the healing powers of St. Winefride’s well, and for that reason it has gained the pseudo-nym of “the Lourdes of Wales”.

It must be kept in mind that this shrine is known as the “Lourdes of Wales” because of the number of cures that have been obtained through the intercession of St. Winefride. It has never been the site of an apparition by the Bless-ed Virgin Mary, and must not be confused on that score with Lourdes.

November — December 2018 (No. 14)

Anniversary of the first meeting of the M.I. in Belgium

Father Kolbe's vision is deep-ly rooted in the tradition of the Church. In particular Louis-Ma-rie Grignion de Montfort was an important inspiration for him, and Montfort himself mentions that he is not inventing anything new. In paragraph 159 of his True devotion to the Blessed Virgin he mentions "a famous Knight, Vau-tier de Birback, a close relative of the Dukes of Louvain, who about the year 1300 consecrated himself to the Blessed Virgin." This was, in fact, the Knight Walter van Bi-erbeek. After returning from the crusades, he became a monk in Himmerode. Next to the church

in Bierbeek in present-day Bel-gium, near Leuven, there is still a commemoration stone.

The 16th of October was the first anniversary when a small group of us local M.I. members paid homage to this very old Knight of the Immaculata with a torch-light procession to that stone. Along the way we were joined by some teenagers who were curi-ous about what was happening. They joined us for the final prayer and knelt with us to receive the priestly blessing.

May the Immaculata bless and raise many future Knights in that long tradition of the Church!

Knight of the Immaculata in Spanish

We are happy to announce the Spanish version of Knight of the Immaculata.

The first issue (in Spanish: Ca-ballero de la Inmaculada) was created thanks to the efforts and commitment of many Knights from South America and several priests from Spain and Mexico who also are Knights.

We are distributing the first is-sue in Spain and countries of South America.

Book Consecration to the Immaculata in Lithuanian

One of the Knights from Lithu-ania translated the book Conse-cration to the Immaculata into Lithuanian.

This book is a preparation for enrolment into the Militia Im-maculatæ with an introduction and 13-day preparation according to St. Maximilian Kolbe.

The Lithuanian version of this book contains texts of meditation from Fr. Karl Stehlin' book The Immaculata — Our Ideal.

This book will be a useful help for the apostolate in Lithuania.

Distribution of the Miraculous Medals in Poland

There is a man in the south of Poland who started by distribut-ing Miraculous Medals in his parish. After he had enrolled in the M.I. in the FSSPX's Chapel in Chorzów city, he decided to of-fer the Medals in other parishes as well asking his friends for help.

In that way he distributed 3,000 Miraculous Medals in just over six months. He also at-tached the flyers telling the story of the Miraculous Medal. Now

he is still ordering more medals and searching for new possibili-ties to extend the message of the Immaculata given to us through Catherine Labouré.

Lectures of Fr. Szydłowski

In Poland, Father Łukasz Szydłowski gives regular lectures at Staromiejska Street in Kato-wice, during which books con-cerning the Blessed Virgin Mary

and the Militia Immaculatæ are sold. Participants are very much interested in them which pro-vides a great occasion to extend Mary’s cult.

The new issue of Knight of the Immaculata in GermanThe central theme of the new

issue of our periodical was Mary, Mother of Mercy, along with ar-ticles on certain virtues proper to Knights and the mission of women. There’s also a report about the M.I.-Retreat that took place again this year (in Germa-ny), and an account of the life of Blessed Anacleto Gonzales Flo-res, an important Cristeros from Mexico — a beautiful example for the Knights.

New CD ReleasedA CD has been produced based

on the M.I.-Retreats this year en-titled, The Secret of the Immacu-lata (5000 copies produced, only available in German); copies were distributed to all the Knights. The audio conferences keep the

Knights from forgetting their ide-al, and in fact help them to go ever deeper. These CDs are very popu-lar since even people who don’t have much time can benefit from them by listening to them in the car, for example.

MI

The Militia Immaculatæ is an army of Knights of Mary Immaculate which works for the conversion of all men to God, whether they be Protestants, or Jews, or Muslims, & in particular the Freemasons, and that all become saints, under the patronage and through the mediation of the Immaculate Virgin.

The Militia Immaculatæ was founded by St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe on the 16th of October 1917. Since 1937 Militia Im-maculatæ is also called the Knights of the Immaculata.

Original Statutes of the Militia Immaculatæ (by St. Maximilian)"She will crush your head." (Genesis 3:15)

"Thou alone hast vanquished all heresies throughout the world." (from the Roman Breviary)

I. Goal of Membership:To work for the conversion to God of all men, be they sinners, heretics, schismat-

ics, Jews, Moslems etc., in particular the Freemasons; and that all become saints, under the patronage and through the mediation of the Immaculate Virgin.

II. Conditions of Membership:1. To consecrate oneself entirely to the Immaculate Virgin, placing oneself freely

as a docile and generous instrument in her hands.2. To wear the Miraculous Medal.

III. Duties of Membership:1. If possible, to pray the following ejaculatory prayer at least once a day: "O Mary,

conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee, and for all those who do not have recourse to thee, especially for the Freemasons and for those who are com-mended to thy care."

2. To use all other valid and legitimate means for the conversion and sanctification of men, according to one’s means, in the different states and conditions of life, as the occasions present themselves; this is entrusted to the zeal and prudence of each one. Particularly recommended, however, is spreading the Miraculous Medal.

N.B. These means are recommended only as suggestions and not as an obligation; not one of them obliges under pain of sin, not even venial sin. Our principal motive is to help the greatest possible number of souls to be united with the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the mediation of the Immaculata.

If you want to join us, please email: [email protected] and tell us which country you are from.
