2. Slide Navigator-See an overview of your slide presentation through thumbnails of each slide.

3. Slide Canvas-Create each slide by adding text and media within this area.

Inspector WindowYour slideshow can be formatted using the elements in the Inspector Window. To reveal the Inspector, click on this button:

The Inspector allows you to customize features within your slides and presentation. For example, you can click on the Slide Inspector to insert transitions or visual effects when you move from one slide to the next. The Build Inspector allows you to add effects to move objects on and off slides.

Media BrowserSince Keynote is integrated with the iLife suite of products, you can insert media quickly and easily from iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie via the Media Browser.

Add TextEach theme consists of master slides that give your presentation a coordinated look. For example, the background, fonts, chart styles, and chart colors will all be consistent throughout your presentation.

1. Click on the MASTERS icon and select the master layout that contains the elements you want for your slide.

2. Double-click within the Placeholder Text boxes and type in your content.

3. Continue to double-click and type until all of the Placeholder Text boxes are completed.

Add a New Slide1. To add a new slide to your presentation, click the NEW button.

2. If you want to change the Master Slide layout, be sure that the slide is highlighted in your Slide Navigator. Then click the MASTER button and select your master layout.

Add a PhotoMEDIA BROWSER

1. Select a Master Layout with a Photo Placeholder for best results.

2. Click MEDIA in the toolbar.

3. Click the PHOTOS tab in the Media Browser.

4. Select the album where your picture is located, then drag the image thumbnail into the image placeholder in the slide canvas.

FINDER

1. Select a Master Layout with a Photo Placeholder for best results.

2. Go to INSERT > CHOOSE in the menu.

3. Locate the picture file you want to insert and click INSERT.

Edit a PhotoRESIZE A PHOTO

1. To resize a photo, click once on the image in the Slide Canvas.

2. Using the Mask Tool that appears drag the slider above the EDIT MASK button to the left or right.

3. Then click EDIT MASK to execute.

REPOSITION A PHOTO

1. Double-click on the image in your Slide Canvas.

2. The entire photo should now be visible.

3. Click, hold, and drag to reposition the photo within the masked area that you’d like to be visible.

4. When you are satisfied with the image position, click EDIT MASK.

Note: The original image still remains in tact, so you can edit the mask or reposition the image as many times as you’d like.

INSTANT ALPHA

To get rid of background or unwanted elements of an image, use the Instant Alpha tool.

1. Select an image you’d like to edit.

2. Click on the Alpha tool in the toolbar.

3. Click on the color you want to make transparent, then drag slowly over it.

4. Repeat as many times as necessary to get the image the way you want.

Note: You can revert to the original image by going to Format > Remove Instant Alpha in the menu. To restore parts of the image that was removed by Instant Alpha, click on Edit > Undo Instant Alpha.

Adding Motions to SlideshowsADDING TRANSITIONS

1. Select a slide in the Slide Navigator.

2. Click on Inspector in the toolbar then click on the Slide Inspector button.

3. Next, be sure that Transition is selected.

4. Choose an option from the Effect pop-up window.

5. Set the options for duration, direction, start transition, and delay if desired.

ADDING OBJECT BUILDS

1. To move objects on and off the slide, select a slide in the Slide Navigator.

2. On the slide, click on the object you want to move on or off the slide. If you want to select multiple objects, press SHIFT and click on the objects.

3. Click on Inspector in the toolbar then click on the Build Inspector button.

4. To make the object move on the slide, click Build In; to make the object leave the slide, click on Build Out.

5. Choose an effect from the Effect pop-up menu.

6. For some effects, you may also be able to customize the direction in which the object enters or leaves the slide or whether the object appears on the slide at one or by parts at a time.

7. To set how long it takes for an object to appear or disappear, type a value in the Duration field or use the arrows to enter the value.

Adding Voiceover Narration to Slideshows1. To add a synchronized recording of yourself explaining each slide, click on the slide in the

Slide Navigator where you’d like to recording to start.

2. Click on Inspector in the toolbar.

3. Next, click on the Document Inspector, click Audio, then click Record.

4. The slideshow will begin to play. A pulsing red light at the top left corner will indicate that recording is in progress.

5. Speak clearly into the microphone.

6. Advance to the next slide by pressing the return key or right arrow key.

7. When you are finished recording, press the Return key or ESC key to stop and save the recording.

8. To listen to the narration without playing the slideshow, click on the play button in the Audio pane of the Document Inspector. Adjust the volume by dragging the volume slider.

9. To listen to the narration while playing the slideshow, click on the play button in the toolbar.

Sharing Your Slideshow as a Movie1. To create a QuickTime movie of your

slideshow, click on Share > Export in the menu.

2. Next, select QuickTime.

3. If you have Slideshow Recording (voiceover) in your presentation, you should see Recorded Timing in the Playback Uses pull-down.

Note: Movies that are intended to be sent through email or shared on the web are generally in the Web Movie, Small format.

5. To include the slideshow soundtrack or recorded audio, select the appropriate Audio checkbox.

6. Click Next.

7. Type a name for your movie, choose a storage location, and click Export.
