Meyer Park goes Green Harris County Pct. 4 at Meyer Park has launched a recycling program with
IMGREEN Recycling, Inc. A large slotted collector is available for newspapers, papers and flattened cardboard. A shorter collector with a black cover is provided for aluminum cans, foil, aluminum pie plates and plastic bottles. At this time, there is no provision for glass or other metals.
You might have also noticed that there are numerous royal blue containers with a hole in the cover to receive aluminum cans and plastic bottles. So, walkers, joggers, picnickers, soccer players and soccer moms & dads, let’s do our part to pick up papers and bottles and place them in the appropriate recycling collectors.

NAMED NATIONAL MERIT FINALISTS
The Klein ISD had nine high school seniors earn 2012 National Merit Finalists status out of the 1.5 million students who were eligible. As finalists, students had to meet the following requirements: have an outstanding academic record throughout high school; be endorsed by the high school principal; earn SAT scores confirming their earlier performance on the qualifying test; submit a detailed scholarship application including an essay; information about their participation or leadership in school, and community activities. Center for Cultural Interchange is looking for volunteer hosts for foreign students. These students need a caring and safe environment to stay for the school year. Our students come from over 60 countries and are high school aged. They have their own spending money and are fully insured. Hosts are required to provide a bed and meals in their home. Thanks to one of our residents for following up on a common question regarding the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) exemption for homeowners that qualify for the Over-65 school tax exemption. Per Susan Leifeste of the Harris County Appraisal District, if the value of a home in a given year is less than the value originally applied when the owner qualified for the over-65 exemption, the school taxes would be calculated on the new, lesser value. The school tax ceiling just means that school taxes can never be greater than the amount paid when the school tax ceiling was originally applied.
The Klein, Texas Museum Tours
The Klein, Texas Museum tour is des igned to ref lect the way of l i fe in the Klein community during the 1890s through the 1920s. Free tours are available for the public on the last Saturday of each month except for November, December and May. The
tours start on the hour between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Doerre Intermediate library located at 18218 Theiss Mail Road Klein, Texas 77379. To make a reservation for a large group or for more information, contact LaNell Allee at 832-249-5800.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Spring Festival
On Saturday, May 5th, Boys and Girls Country of Houston will host their annual Spring Festival on their campus in Hockley, Texas. Located 35 miles northwest of downtown Houston, Spring Festival is a great way for families to spend the day.
Spring Festival promises to be a huge celebration for community and family with a lively Cinco de Mayo theme. Admission and parking are free, and children’s all-day event passes are only $15 each. Booths will include a number of inflatable rides like King of the Mountain, Shark Slide, and Water Balls; a Slime Machine booth where you can slime your favorite person, and crafting booths for thelittle ones. There will be three stages with a variety of live entertainment, including Spanish musicians, Gospel singers, and solo artists.
“All of the proceeds of Spring Festival go directly to helping us provide a Home for our children,” said George O’Neal, Director of Spring Festival and Community Relations. “This is going to be our largest and most exciting Spring Festival ever with many new additions that add fun and excitement.”
For 41 years, Boys and Girls Country has provided a Home for children from families in crisis. They raise 88 children at their main campus and provide support to 55 young adults in their College and Career program. Boys and Girls Country is not a United Way member agency and does not rely on federal or state funding.
