More Americans have been lost to AIDS than in all the U.S. wars since 1900, and the pandemic has killed 22 million people worldwide, but few know about the existence of the National AIDS Memorial, a seven-acre grove hidden in San Francisco’s

Golden Gate Park. THE GROVE chronicles this garden’s transformation from a neglected eyesore, to landscaped sanctuary, to national memorial. The film shows how a community in crisis found healing and remembrance, and how the seeds of a few visionary environ-mentalists blossomed into something larger than they could have imagined. But as the Grove’s stakeholders seek broader public recognition through an international design competition a battle erupts over what constitutes an appropriate memorial for the AIDS pandemic. What does it mean to be a national memorial? And how do we mark a time of unimaginable loss? Airs Sunday, December 11 at 10 pm

STEVE JOBS – ONE LAST THING

Gain unique insight into what made Steve Jobs tick. There has been near-universal agreement that the late Apple founder was a great innovator in business and technol-ogy, but why was he great? What were the influences that shaped his character and drove him to such success from humble beginnings? With colleagues who worked closely with him and those who have chronicled his life, take an unflinching look at the mercurial, brilliant man and review his many talents and achievements. In a never-before-broadcast interview from 1994, Jobs expounds on his philosophy of life: “You tend to get told that the world is the way it is, but life can be much broader once you discover

one simple fact; and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you … Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.” Airs Sunday, December 11 at 9 pm and Tuesday, December 20 at 8 pm

AIRPLAY: THE RISE AND FALL OF ROCK RADIO documents the history of rock radio — from the AM deejays to the FM pioneers who fanned the flames of the ‘60s, to the silencing of rock radio by the government and big-business interests, to its promise of rebirth on satellite radio, AIRPLAY shares the story of the 50-year struggle for the soul of music radio told by the deejays and the artists they made stars. Musicians include: Crosby, Stills and Nash, Grace Slick, Little Steven Van Zandt, Bob Weir and Ray Manzarek (The Doors). In addition, legendary disc jockeys talk about the hits and the history they made together through interviews, archival footage, and airchecks, some never seen or heard on television before. Airs Tuesday, December 20 at 9 pm

NOVA - In the last few years, excitement has grown among scientists as they’ve pursued a revolutionary new approach to unifying nature’s forces. To the uninitiated, string theory is totally mind-boggling, but physicist Brian Greene has a rare gift for conveying physics in vivid everyday images, a gift that has turned his book, THE ELEGANT UNIVERSE, into a mighty best-seller. Greene brings his talent and vitality to television in this highly innovative production that makes the surreal world of string theory spring to life on the screen. Three part series airs weekly beginning Thursday, December 1 at 9 pm and Tuesday, December 6 at 7 pm

The American car dealership is alive and well in the 21st century. Meet the players who set the tone in the modern day showroom and hear about its storied past through the decades in SELLING CARS IN AMERICA. Airs Monday, December 19 at 9 pm

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW — FOREVER YOUNG is a celebration of objects for the young and the young at heart. As the show’s lovingly preserved appraisals prove, it’s not only toys and teddy bears that capture the spirit of youth. Highlights include original art for a Dr. Seuss lunch-box; a child’s shoe autographed by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig; and a colorful em-broidered silk picture sewn by the owner’s great-great-great-aunt in 1819, at the age of 15, valued at $60,000 to $80,000. Airs Friday, December 23 at 7 pm, Saturday, December 24 at 10 p,m and Sunday, December 25 at 8 pm

HOLIDAY CEL-EBRATION — This program is a highlight version of the six-hour Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration that took place in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center on Christmas Eve 2009. L.A. HOLIDAY CELEBRATION — This program is a highlight version of the six-hour Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration that took place in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center on Christmas Eve 2009. The Los Angeles County Board of Super-visors has sponsored an admission-free holiday-themed show as a gift to the people of the county every December 24 since 1960. Attendance has become a seasonal tradition for many Angelenos. The 1,000-1,500 performers participating in the show each year represent the many cultures and holiday traditions found in the county. Airs Sunday, December 25 at 9 pm
