Abraham is a native of Christiansburg and a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has had a varied career in engineering, sales, marketing, business management, and real estate management. He currently splits his time between the management of an industrial shell building in Christiansburg and his writing career. Abraham lives in Blacksburg with his wife, two dogs, and four motorcycles. He is a member of the Blacksburg Rotary Club. He and his wife have one adult daughter. Chasing the Powhatan Arrow is his eighth book. All are about Virginia and West Virginia. He has been nominated on three occasions for the Library of Virginia annual Literary Award and three times invited to the prestigious Virginia Festival of the Book. His other books are: Keepers of the Tradition a non-fiction compilation of portraits of contemporary Appalachians; Orange, VA a novel of political intrigue; War, WV a novel of the fight for justice in the Appalachian coal fields; Providence, VA a novel of inner strength found in adversity; Harmonic Highways a non-fiction l ook at Virginia’s Crooked Road; Union, WV, a novel of loss, healing, and redemption in contemporary Appalachia; and The Spine of the Virginias a non-fiction account of journeys along the border of Virginia and West Virginia.

This week’s program: Chasing the Powhatan Arrow, presented Michael

Abraham, author. Abraham is a native of Christiansburg and a graduate

Sweat Equity Opportunities!

We have two volunteer

opportunities – on Saturday,

October 7 at 9am we are

cleaning up Lick Run Greenway as part of Clean Valley Day. Volunteers will meet at the upper shelter

in Washington Park near the swimming pool. Contact Mike Loveman to sign-up. On Friday,

November 17 at 11am we are serving a Thanksgiving lunch at the Adult Care Center in Salem.

Contact Don Chichester to volunteer.

Social Events! The KFC Kiwanis Fun Crew – has scheduled

more after work social evenings. Thursday, October 19th we will

be at Rodeo Grande at Valley View at 530pm; and Thursday,

November 9th we will be at 419 Restaurant at 530pm. Stay tuned

for information about a December opportunity to get tickets for A

Christmas Story at Mill Mountain Theatre.

Recognitions! Many thanks to the Club members who

volunteered at and played in the Bocce Tournament, it was a

successful event! Pegram Johnson recognized the

Membership Committee for their hard work – Wendy Mellenthin

(retention), Reggie Wood & Jackie Bledsoe (orientation), Ken

Briggs, Paige Darby, Alex Brendel, and LeeAnn Linkenhoker

(recruitment). Out of 146 clubs in the Capital District – Kiwanis

Club of Roanoke is #2 in membership!
