Real Kashmir humble Mohun Bagan by 2-1, keep title hopes alive in maiden season

Real Kashmir humbledheavyweights Mohun Bagan by2-1 and the giant-killing act, oneof many engineered by the debu-tantes in the ongoing I-League,kept their title hopes alive, heretoday.

The win against a profligateMohun Bagan helped RealKashmir, the first team from thevalley to play in India's top-flight, continue their fairy talerun.

The team's sixth victory wasachieved on the back of a braceby Mason Robertson, who struckin the 33rd and 74th minute atthe Salt Lake Stadium.

Starting as a defender,Scottish Robertson, who wasrecruited by his father and coachof the club David Robertson,dominated the game to hand theformer champions a second suc-cessive defeat.

League winning star wingerSony Norde, who made a come-back after missing four matchesdue to his leg injury, scored thesolitary goal for the home side inthe 42nd minute.

"It is heartening to watch

our youngsters from NagrotaAssembly constituency takinglead role in organizing andplaying sports like Volleyball,Badminton, Kabaddi, Tug ofWar, Long Jump etc in a bigway", Mr Rana said at the con-cluding function of DistrictSports Meet, organized byRural Development Form, aNon GovernmentalOrganisation, at Bhatyari inBlock Dansal.

Sports persons from 15Panchayats of Dansal Blockparticipated in various events,which were witnessed by alarge number of sports-loversfrom all over the Constituency.

While Kapotha teams wonthe keenly contested Volleyballand Kabaddi matches, Bhatyariteams triumphed in Tug of Warand Badminton events. TheKanyala players won the LongJump competition.

Complimenting the partici-pating teams and congratulatingthose who won various events,Rana expressed happiness overthe constituency emerging as ahub of sports activities in the

recent years, especially therural games and hoped the tal-ented ones will make their markat national and internationallevels. He stressed the need foradequate exposure to youthevincing interest in varioussports competitions, sayingtheir love and passion for thegames is admirable.

The programme was a mes-sage to the mass for preservationof the Mother Earth, in the formof a musical drama. The studentsshowcased their talent in a bedaz-zling way.

Member of Parliament JugalKishore Sharma was the chiefguest on the occasion, whileVikram Randhawa, MLC Jammuand Padmashree Balwant Thakurwere the guests of honour.

The event began with wel-coming of the guests, their floralfelicitation and the ceremoniallamp-lighting, followed bySaraswati Vandana.

The main highlight of the daywas a musical drama to educatethe audience about the injusticewe are doing to our Mother Earth.

The narrative enacted by thestudents was an eye-opener forthe audience & held the audiencein awe & left them enlightened asthe show culminated. The juniorstudents of the school presented adance performance, ‘Fiesta’ &left everyone jovial.

The show involved most ofthe students of the school in spec-tacular performances enrichedwith rich music, costumes &dance.

Ravi Singh, DivisionalSports Officer, Jammu andAshok Singh, Manager M AStadium were the observersfrom J&K State SportsCouncil, while NarinderMohan was the observer fromGymnastics Federation ofIndia. Dushyant Sharma,President J&K OlympicAssociation (JKOA) and ProfAshutosh Sharma, GeneralSecretary were also present inthe meeting, while KuldeepSingh Jamwal, President RifleShooting Association of J&Kwere the observers fromJKOA.

JAMMU, Jan 6: ChiefSecretary, BVR Subrahmanyamtoday lauded Jammu andKashmir Police and described itone of the best forces in the coun-try which is workingin difficult situationsto maintain law andorder and ensure safe-ty of people.

Speaking at theconcluding ceremonyof 5-day Police Inter-Zone Sports Meet-2018, organized atGulshan Ground heretoday, the ChiefSecretary saidGovernment is awareof the problems anddifficulties of Policeforce and severalsteps for their welfarehave been taken bythe Governor'sAdministration. He said an effi-cient mechanism has been put inplace to address their issues onpriority.

Chief Secretary said MirCommittee constituted to suggestmeasures to be initiated for thewelfare of Police, includingspeedy disposal of promotioncases, seniority and creation ofmore posts in different cadres forcareer progression is being exam-ined for implementation. He said8000 posts in several higherranks have been created to openthe avenues of promotions forpolice personnel.

He said Government hasalready announced a housingscheme for the families of thepolice personnel and initially10000 housing units will be con-structed each at Jammu andSrinagar for which the work willstart soon. These units will beprovided to the families of needypolice personnel on reasonableand affordable prices, he said andadded that the Government isalso considering sanctioning asubstantial risk allowance for thePolice Personnel keeping in viewthe working conditions of theforce.

The Chief Secretary appreci-ated the efforts of DGP for organ-izing this big sports bonanza andsaid that sports are must for keep-

ing the Police personnel mentallyand physically fit and called fororganizing such events on regularbasis. He said such events pro-vide opportunities to the playersto exhibit their talent in differentsports activities and help in

boosting their moral which leadthem to perform their duties moreefficiently.

In his welcome address, DGPDilbag Singh informed that asmany as 930 sportspersons of sixzones, including 775 men and155 women participated in thisinter-zone sports meet-2018. Italso includes 38 gazetted officerswho participated in differentsports events. The games whichwere played in the meet includedBoxing, Hockey, Kabaddi,Athletic, Handball, Shooting,Football, Basketball,Weightlifting, Archery, Wrestling,Tug of War and Judo etc.

He said the PoliceDepartment organizes suchsports events for its personnel atdifferent places across the Stateto refresh the minds and brains ofthe jawans. He said games are thepart of the service which pro-vides opportunity to the individu-als and as teams to perform onground and display their skills indifferent events which booststheir morale. He congratulated tothe winners and complimented toall those participated in the eventand showing their enthusiasmstowards the sports. He calledupon the police functionaries tomaintain discipline while playingas well as performing their pro-

fessional duties on ground.The DGP expressed gratitude

IISM Gulmarg completes1st Ski Course

JAMMU, Jan 6: IndianInstitute of Skiing &Mountaineering (IISM) atGulmarg completed its firstWinter Ski Course today inwhich 80 students from variousparts of the country participated.

Dr Syed Hanief Balkhi,Chief Executive Officer,Gulmarg DevelopmentAuthority, was the chief guest.He gave away the certificatesand prizes to the winners of var-ious events in the course.

Principal IISM, JS Dhillonwelcomed the chief guest andbriefed him about the develop-ment of the institute and variousactivities being undertaken by it.
