THE JUNIOR WARRANT COMPETITION QUALIFyING HEATJudge: Jane Lilley (Kensing)

Class: KCJW Entry Fee: £6.00 per dog

Please Note: Judging will take place after Best Puppy in Show in the BIS RingELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE: All dogs which have qualified for a Junior Warrant within the qualifying period 1st July 2016 - 30th June 2017.Dogs may be entered in all the qualifying heats. Once qualified, exhibitors will be required to withdraw the qualified dog from any subsequent Junior Warrant qualifying heat(s). The refund of entry fees is at the discretion of the organising society.Five dogs and a reserve will be selected and subsequently invited to the Semi-Finals at ExCeL London in October 2017, with the Final being held at Crufts 2018.Eligible dogs do not need to be entered for the Open Show in order to compete in the Junior Warrant Qualifier, although entries must be made prior to this show’s closing date for entries and be accompanied with the relevant entry fee.The maximum number of dogs for the qualifying heat is 64. If it is likely that this number will be exceeded, acceptance of entries will be on a first-come first-served basis.

ONE YEAR SUSPENSION OF AV STAKES CLASSES & UNBEATEN DOG REGULATIONSThe Kennel Club has announced a further one year suspension to the regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class, and the regulation that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in a group or best in show competition. As of 1 January 2017, there will be a one year suspension to the regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class. It has been noted by the Kennel Club that exhibitors often withdraw their Best of Breeds from AV/Stakes classes in order to remain unbeaten for the group. Therefore, whilst many exhibitors initially enter the AV/Stakes Classes, not all go on to compete. It is anticipated that this regulation suspension will not only encourage exhibitors who have dogs entered in both AV/Stakes classes and breed classes to compete in all classes for which they had originally entered, thus reducing the absentee rate for AV classes, but that additional entries will be generated from exhibitors who may not wish or be eligible to enter their dogs in the scheduled breed classes for one reason or another. The regulation that stipulates that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in a group or best in show competition has also been suspended for a two year period. Therefore a dog declared Best of Breed which has been beaten in an AV/Stakes class will remain eligible to compete in the group and best in show competitions.

Where a Best Puppy in Show competition is scheduled the Best Puppy in Show is a puppy which has competed and is unbeaten by any other puppy exhibited at the same show. A puppy is a dog of six and not exceeding twelve calendar months of age on the first day of the Show. Where the Best of Breed, Best in Group or Best in Show is a puppy it should automatically be awarded Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Similarly, if the Reserve Best of Breed, Reserve Best of Group or Reserve Best in Show is a puppy which has only been beaten by an adult dog it should also automatically be Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show respectively. Consequently, selection of Best Puppy in Breed, Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Show must follow the selection of Best of Breed, Best in Group and Best in Show respectively.

judged and which are unbeaten by any other puppy. 2) Best Puppy in Show must be selected from the Best Puppy in Group winners provided they are unbeaten by

12. Best in Show: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

The dog declared Best in Show is a dog which has competed and is unbeaten by any other dog exhibited at the same Show.

a. Shows Judged on the Group System: (Definition: Shows judged on the Group System includes classes for breeds within more than one group, as defined in Kennel Club Regulation B(A); and require a judge to declare a best of each group after which the exhibits so declared will compete for the award of Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show.)

1) Best of Breed: Where a breed is separately classified a Best of Breed may be declared from those dogs which have received a first prize in a breed class at the show. Where separate classes are provided for each sex of a breed a Best of each Sex must be declared.

2) Best of Group: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

Best of group and subsequent placings must be selected from:- a) The Best of Breed winners in each group provided that they are unbeaten winning dogs. b) The best unbeaten winning dog from the Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes in each group or on

each day. 3) Best in Show: From 1st January 2017, and for a period of one year the Kennel Club Show Regulations which

stipulate that dogs must be entered and exhibited in a breed class before exhibiting in an Any Variety Class/Stakes Class and that only unbeaten dogs are eligible to compete in the group or best in show competitions are suspended.

Best in Show must be selected from the Best of Group winners provided they are unbeaten. Reserve Best in Show must be selected from the remaining Group winners following the selection for Best in Show.

b. Withdrawal from other Competition: Dogs which become eligible for Best of Group and Best in Show may be withdrawn from all other competition other than breed classes and Best of Breed prior to the competition for Best of Group or Best in Show as appropriate in order to remain unbeaten. A dog beaten in competition for Best in Group or Best in Show may subsequently be exhibited in all competition for which it was previously eligible. The dogs declared Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show however, must not compete in any subsequent competition. Dogs may be withdrawn from AV Classes when judged before Breed Classes.

c. Proviso: For the purposes of this Regulation, dogs beaten in competition for Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Progeny, Brace and Team or a Special Award confined to a single breed, will not be considered to be beaten dogs.

13. 14. Exhibitors must not pick up dogs by their tails and leads when lifting them. This is not acceptable. Exhibitors should note that such practice would constitute harsh handling and reports of such practice will be referred to the Committee under Kennel Club Show Regulation F11.

• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water

available to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water

available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths

of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire

On each and every occasion failure to pay entry fees or surcharges thus incurred will be referred to the Kennel Club.
