Early Learning ProgramsParenting with Power

Scripture of the week: Wise dis-cipline imparts wisdom; spoiled children embarrass their parents. Proverbs 29:15

Father’s Day HonourThe Bible tells children to honour their father and moth-

er, but many children need help understanding what honour is and learn practical ways to show it. Father’s Day is an excellent time for mothers to teach their children how to honour Dad. Of course, you will work with your children to do something thoughtful such as create a card, buy him a new tool or make him bacon and eggs in bed, but also use it as a teaching time for your children that will last longer than one day. When children learn to honour their father, they also understand the concept of honouring their heav-enly father.

Honour means treating people as special, doing more than what is expected and having a good attitude. How can we treat Dad as special every day? One way is to develop a habit of greeting him, expressing gratefulness for what he does and asking to spend time with him.

You may want to look at it this way. The family is like a bucket with holes in it. Water represents the energy in fam-ily life and that energy is continually draining out because of the work of family life. We do a lot of work with meals, laundry, shopping, driving and cleaning. In order for the family to work most effectively and not lose all of its en-ergy, every person in the family needs to be adding energy. Sometimes children drain energy out of family life with bad attitudes and not honouring their parents, making the job of working together more difficult.

Strategy for the week: God has instructed that honour be learned and demonstrated at home, but developing it at home is only the beginning of its benefit. Those who learn honour will be able to use it for the rest of their lives. Use the special occasion of Father’s Day this weekend to train your children in honouring their father.

Happy Father’s Night!Dads couldn’t resist the tempting smell coming from the barbeque on Monday night as Noah’s Ark celebrated dads and their importance in the family unit. Our well lit playground was a hive of activity as dads and children enthusiastically tested their tennis, volleyball and golf skills. Of course, box construction, painting and play dough were also the favourites, along with hammering using “tap tap” materials. The evening concluded with children sharing some of their favourite songs with their dads (and some tired though happy twosomes)Children the world over like:

• To do everyday things with their dad• Their dad to be involved in what they do• To have fun with their dad• Their dad to care about them

Happy Fathers’ Day to all our dads!

Points to Ponder

SecondaryFrom time to time I find myself telling students that “life

is not always fair but that’s life”. We need to know how to deal with what life sends our way.

WHAT IS LIFE?Life is a gift…ACCEPT IT.Life is an adventure…DARE IT.Life is a mystery…UNFOLD IT.Life is a game…PLAY ITLife is a struggle…FACE IT.Life is beauty…PRAISE IT.Life is a puzzle…SOLVE IT.Life is opportunity…TAKE IT.Life is sorrowful…EXPERIENCE IT.Life is a song…SING IT.Life is a goal…ACHIEVE IT.Life is a mission…FULFIL IT.

David McNally from ‘Even Eagles Need a Push’

It is wonderful to know that despite the above, there are some core truths which make life worthwhile and meaning-ful.

CORE TRUTHS• In God’s economy, nothing that happens to you is ever

wasted.• Planning, organisation, and maintenance can help

make your hard times easier.• Relationships – with God and with others - are the most

important treasures you can stock up in your life.• Time is short. Do not put off doing what you know to

do.• God can use even your negative experiences for His

good purposes.• Do not worry! When you open your hands in need –

even if you’ve neglected to prepare – God will not let you down.

Enile Barnes from ‘A Different Kind of Miracle’

Life is so wonderful and precious. I praise god for life’s experiences that He can use to mould us into the people He would have us be. We however need to be willing to walk with Him, talk with Him and give Him authority to work in our lives. He will always work for our good and not for harm. He is a mighty and loving Father.

Happy parenting. And so it is. Maintain good relation-ships. Bring heaven to earth. Fear prevents, faith prevails. God bless. True meaning of Easter. Celebrate the risen Christ. Happy Mother’s Day to all our mums. Find the joy. Defend the Australian way of life. Encourage goal setting. Be thankful. Bloom where you are. Develop resilience. Too blessed to be stressed. Take time. Encourage a positive at-titude. Never quit. Guidance.

~ Rhonda Bevan, Head of Secondary

You do not have to be a Bible scholar to understand faith!Quote from Power New Testament

Jesus loved children and used them often as an example of how to trust. A child who loves a parent puts their entire life in the care of that parent. That is what God wants from you. Like a trusting child, put your whole life in God’s hands and allow God to be your Father. He will not let you down! “Let the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these little children belong to the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:14)

Primary Athletics Carnival - Prep to Year 3

On Friday 26th August, students in Prep, Year 1, 2 and 3 participated in their annual Athletics Carnival in beautiful sunshine. All students participated in the events: sprint running, relay races and long jump.

Prep students also showed their six-week auskick unit during PE lessons was a great success as they kicked a ball for dis-tance, whilst grade one threw balls overhead two-handed. Grade two and three threw hoops for distance to prepare them for discuss throwing.

The day finished with the year 2 and 3 sprint finals of each student who came first in their heat. The track was lined on both sides with parents and students alike cheering, which created a great atmosphere.

The final results were:Year 2 Girls Year 2 Boys1st: Hayley Price (2N) 1st: Liam Burgess (2W)2nd: Jasmin Naggy (2N) 2nd: Caden Schmidt (2W)3rd: Adele Phillips (2F) 3rd: Dylan Badenhorst (2F)

The student’s joy and attitude was a delight to watch. Their attitude was summed up in the following comments: “The carnival was fun and exciting and it was great just to participate. Those who didn’t win enjoyed cheering for their

friends.” ~ Cooper Petronaitis 3D“I really enjoyed the sprints and relays on Athletics Day. It was really nice how everyone congratulated and encouraged

each other, no matter what place they came.” ~ Jasmyne Coventry 3R“Sports day was so much fun! We got to do relays, running races, throwing and long jump. It was all an excellent experi-

ence and I can’t wait until we get to do it all again next year.” ~ Caitlyn Carlson 3K“The P-3 Carnival was fun and challenged me to run my fastest. I ran like the wind and came first in the sprints, it was

great.” ~ Jordan Sergis 3P

Special thankyou to all the outstanding, enthusiastic Prep and Lower Primary teachers, Janet Fletcher, Avelyn Shunker and the teacher aids.

Year 4 Camp On Monday 22nd August, we went on the bus to go on camp ready to have lots of fun. Tallebudgera is the best

place to go on camp.First we went on the high ropes. They were so fun. I nearly made it to the top of the sea obstacle. It was

extremely hard but I only had one shiny super hard obstacle. Then we had morning tea. After that, we went on the net high ropes. Jesse did an extraordinary job. I only made it half way, but I tried.

Then we went to the cabin and they were so awesome and cool. There were 4 beds on one side and 5 on the other side. Phoebe, Angel and I were in the bunkbed on the top. Porsha, Phoebe and Alexandra were on the bottom of the bunkbed and Nicole was in a single bed.

After that, we had lunch and our lunch was pizza and salad. Then we did sand sculpturing. Our sculpture was going to be a cake then it turned into a cupcake, then a Thailand tomb.

Our group was Darcy, Izzy, Nicola, Bee and I. It was so fun. We kept splashing water on each other. When we finished we all said, “Hooray!”

After we did have dinner. It was splendid. We had a roast! After that we had devotions with Mr Harmon and he said that if you say words you can’t take them back.

I had a great time at camp. I really didn’t want to leave. ~ Brooke Gavin, 4B
