Roaming RomeoNoah’s Ark’s much loved guinea pig, Romeo recently

paid a visit for a day to PL as part of Prep’s unit of work. Each PL student wrote a story about Romeo which was compiled into a book. Possums Pre-Prep children were very excited when PL visited this week and shared some of their stories. This was a wonderful transitioning activity for pre-preps as they get ready for school entry next year.

Parenting with Power

Scripture of the week: And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Developing Perseverance

Many of the chores children do are a struggle for them. Unless your kids are exceptional, they get frustrated with work and view cleaning their rooms, washing the dishes, or mowing the lawn as an intrusion into their lives. In those moments, pray for a heart change, talk about deeper issues, but continue to hold the line. Children who learn to work hard are eventually surprised by the amount of work they can do, but it takes time. By teaching children how to ful!l their responsibilities, even when they don’t feel like it, develops the character quality of perseverance in their hearts.

Although parents need to be careful not to focus on behaviour alone, it’s important to realise that sometimes behaviour can change the heart. Ideally, we change from the inside out, adjusting the heart and giving God greater control, resulting in outward change but that isn’t how it always works, with children or adults.

In the Bible we read God’s commands for behaviour and His expectation of obedience. These commands are important not just for their external value, but because obeying brings inner change as well. Sometimes people just don’t feel like doing what’s right. Does that excuse their behaviour? After all, they don’t want to be hypocrites, and since they don’t feel like doing what’s right, maybe they should continue to do the wrong thing until their hearts change. Of course the faulty reasoning here is obvious. Even if you don’t feel like it, you need to do the right thing.

Strategy for the week: Pray constantly for your children that they will develop the necessary perseverance with the hard tasks. Encourage them to !nish tasks before they go onto something else. Reward them as they persevere and !nish the given tasks to the best of their ability. Boundaries set around tasks such as, “When you !nish this then you are able to….”, help them to begin to stay on the required chore until it is completed.

Last Term for 2012Can you believe it, this is the last term of the school year

and Christmas is nearly here? What I can’t believe is how early Christmas items have appeared in the retail stores! As you know my husband and I headed to the UK at the end of August. The stores there had Christmas cards and decorations on display. I was amazed, but when I returned to Australia in September, the stores here were the same.

We travelled to Finland. Estonia, Wales and Japan. The weather was perfect in each country, so we were very blessed. Each country was fantastic. I do not know how many kilometres I would have walked while overseas, but it must have been in the thousands. For me, it is always enjoyable to walk around cities visited in order to explore them and to be amongst the locals to gain a real feel of the environment.

I have found that as a general rule, people the world over are kind, friendly and helpful. Even where there is a language barrier, a smile brings a smile in return and results in e"orts to give assistance. I would have to say though that as far as courtesy and consideration for others go, Japan wins hands down.

Enough of my reminiscing. I thought you may enjoy the few wise sayings below.

Wise Sayings1. There is always death and taxes; however death doesn’t get worse every year.

2. People will accept your ideas much more readily if you tell them that Benjamin Franklin said it first.

3. Anything free is worth what you pay for it.

4. If it ain’t broke, fix it till it is.

5. In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday.

6. Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

7. You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.

8. One of life’s mysteries is how a one kilogram box of chocolates can make a woman gain 2.5 kilograms.

9. The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

10. Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.

11. Age doesn’t always bring wisdom, sometimes age comes alone.

12. Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.

13. You don’t stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing.

14. Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand.

Welcome back to event packed Term 4. It will be over before we know it, so let’s make the most of each day.

Happy parenting. I wish you Jesus. A choice to make. Remember God’s esteem. Ideal Valentine. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Why/How. The Greatest. The joy of motherhood. Give thanks. Pray. Thankful hearts are happy hearts. Trust the Lord. Know who you are in Christ. Nurture compassion. Have a chuckle. Attitudes are habits. Courage. Recognise your heroes.

Outstanding Achievements

Isabella BozicevicThroughout the year Isabella has been

competing in the junior development se-ries on the Gold Coast (JDS Series) and has !nished ranked no. 2 overall in the U11 for the series. This means she has been se-lected to represent the Gold Coast at the Queensland Teams Carnival in Rockhamp-ton in late October. What a wonderful achievement by our up-and-coming tennis star.

Emily Carey Last weekend Emily competed for the

last time as a King’s Christian College rower. The Queensland Schools Rowing champi-onships were held up at Bundaberg over three days. Emily competed in six di"erent events winning one gold, three silver and two bronze medals. Emily was the most decorated individual at the carnival and, due solely to Emily’s e"orts, King’s !nished 8th on the overall medal count out of 50 competing schools mainly from Queens-land, New South Wales and New Zealand.

In three races Emily was only pipped by extremely small margins and, in two of these, by di"erent New Zealand crews. One race the di"erence was .32 of a second.

Emily has had a fantastic time rowing for and representing

King’s at Queensland and Australian Schools Rowing. Emily will represent Australia at the Youth Olympics and hopefully the world championships next year. We thank her for her dedication to the sport and for being a wonderful ambassador for King’s.

Hi everyone. Welcome back to what is shaping up to be a very busy term. First we have primary and high school APS sport start-ing back up this Thursday and Friday and continuing through-out the term. Sports Awards night is on Wednesday 24 October, which is only two short weeks away. This will be held in the church auditorium from 6.45pm. HOWEVER, as you are probably aware the sports centre is now o#cially ours and we will be taking any parents and students that would like to go on a tour through the centre from 5.30pm. This is a very exciting building for us as the sports department and I am sure you will be blown away with how amazing it looks inside. There will also be a free co"ee cart there for your convenience. More details to come. Lastly we are holding the Upper Primary Swimming carnival on the 29 No-vember, which is very exciting. Again there will be more details to come shortly.

Help Support Miss GradyCome and join us as we Race for Hope at beautiful South

Burleigh headlands. We’re going to put a King’s team in and you can choose to do either a 3km or 5km run/walk. You can also bring your family! This is the perfect time to get back into run-ning as our cross country training is about to restart.

Miss Grady is moving to Uganda at the end of the year and this event is for her charity 100% hOPE to raise money to build a secondary school in Uganda. This is a great opportunity to race while also raising money to help the kids in Uganda.
