UNDERSTANDING THE KINGDOM OF GODB) Distortion of Kingdom of God through Jewish Understanding

The Jews believed that the kingdom of God would be established through a savior in which the awaited Messiah may be seen as a liberator and the founder of a new state of Israel.

This distortion is specifically why Jesus spent so much time teaching about the true nature of the kingdom of God

UNDERSTANDING THE KINGDOM OF GODC) Christ’s vision of the kingdom of God

Jesus’ vision of the Kingdom of God was closely tied to his understanding of God which is

different from the understanding of Jewish people.

Abba- is an Aramaic word that means something far more intimate than just “father”

The ability to recognize and fully participate in the Reign of God requires conversion > The Kingdom of God takes root in the heart of believers.

Conviction of God’s intimate union with people was a primary part of Jesus’ vision of the Kingdom of God.

The Reign of God proclaimed by Jesus was a one-to-one relationship between God and an individual person.

The giving of alms to the poor was required.

Jews looked upon the Law as a great gift from Yahweh.

Torah- the written version of the Law contained in the Hebrew Scriptures.

Jesus went beyond the limitation of the Law, shattering any sense of narrow nationalism as well as breaking own barriers of legalism.

Jews was an excessive sense of nationalism

Matthew 5:44-48: teaches us the same lesson: to love your enemies.

Jesus did not actually use the word love but he more often spoke of the results or expression of love.

Faith in God cannot be lived out apart from service to people in need.

Call to love is a call to unlimited forgiveness

The key to comprehend Jesus teaching about the kingdom of God is in understanding his conviction.

Reign of God is when God reigns in the heat of all people.

His acceptance of the cross demonstrated his willingness to submit to the effects of sin and evil in most brutal form.

Three Important realization can be gained from the apparent contradiction are the following:

Jesus embodied the Kingdon of God.

Jesus' followers fully recognized the Kingdom only

after Jesus' resurrection.

Complete acceptance of the KIngdon is equired for

its fulfillment.
