Where were you born? Gort, Co Galway. Family: Husband Michael and the wonderful Martyn (22), Elaine (20) and Michelle (19). Schools attended: Ballyturn National School which is just outside Gort, the Mercy Convent in Gort, and GMIT in Galway. Occupation: Hotelier. Best friend: Although he might sometimes find it hard to believe, that is definitely Michael, my husband of 25 years. Earliest childhood memory? My mother arrived home from Galway with a baby in her arms. It was my sister Mona! I’ve been getting over the shock of it since. Apart from your family, who would be the first person you would invite to your birthday party? Robert Red- ford – and if he didn’t show up I’d uninvite everyone else. And the last? Mrs Redford. What car do you drive? 2006 Suzuki Vitara. International figure you most admire? Right now that would be Barack Obama. He's talking the talk and I hope also that he'll walk the walk in the next couple of years. National figure you most admire? Micheál Ó Muirc- heartaigh for his supreme professionalism, the length of his career, and the wonderful memories he has given me. And I just love his accent. I'd love to have him at my birthday party too. What national or international personality irritates you? Joe Duffy. For all the airtime he gives to moaners and negative people. Who would you like to see as Minister for Finance and why? Any Irish mother who can feed, clothe and edu- cate her family on the budget she has to live within. Where was your most memorable holiday? That has to be the safari I took in Kruger National Park in South Africa, with my husband Michael, and our great friends Jackie and Peggy O'Sullivan. I still laugh out loud when I think about it all these years later. Where’s your favourite place? Standing on the 18th tee- box of Mahony's Point golf course, looking at my drive, two feet from the pin. Favourite television programme? A toss up between Grey's Anatomy and CSI Las Vegas. God, what does that say about me? Favourite radio show? Ruth Buchanan's Playback on Sat- urday mornings – provided there are no clips from the Joe Duffy Show. Favourite food? Any properly prepared fresh fish. Your signature dish if cooking? Grilled medallions of monkfish on cheddar mash, baby spinach and parma ham, with a tomato cream sauce. (Thanks for the recipe, Paul!) Favourite restaurant? No doubt about it – our own won- derful Rozzers Restaurant at the Killeen House. Wine and cheese, beer and crisps or tea and biscuits? Wine and cheese at night, tea and biscuits during the day. I don't do beer and crisps Hangover cure? Sliced tomatoes on brown bread, with a large dollop of brown sauce and a big mug of tea. Did you back Roy Keane or Mick McCarthy? Keane had the talent, but McCarthy had the vision. I always support visionaries. Do you keep fit? In fits and starts. Favourite sporting moment? Winning second place in the parents’ egg and spoon race in St Oliver's National School, Killarney in 1996. Last book you read? Sail by James Patterson. Best book you read? I read a lot of different types of books and nearly all of them are a good read for me. Last CD you bought? An American Songbook: The Collection by Rod Stewart. Favourite song? You belong to me – Rod makes a great job of it on the above CD. Your one desert island essential? A mirror – just so as I can use it to light a fire from the sun's rays of course! Best film you’ve seen? The Godfather trilogy. Favourite actor? See the first person on my birth- day party list. One person you would love to see in concert? I would love to have seen Freddy Mercury and Queen in concert. Is there a present day equiva- lent? If so, book it for me please! Do you have a pet? Yes. His name is Michael! Dinner party at home or a night in the pub? Din- ner party at home with good food, fun and laugh- ter. Morning person or night owl? Can manage both with no problem. Favourite heart-throb or pin-up? In my teen days, it was definitely Les McKeown from the Bay City Rollers. I even had the full tartan outfit myself. Now that I’m older I have to say Killarney busi- nessman Billy Daly who poses in the latest series of SuperValu posters that are all over the place. Your proudest moment? Outside of my marriage day and the births of the children, it was around about 3.30pm on 2 April 1992. That was the day we welcomed our very first guest to our own hotel – the Killeen House Hotel. Coronation Street, Eastenders or Fair City? I have no interest in any of them. Real life is much more interesting for me. Christmas morning or Mid Summer’s Day? Christ- mas morning, with an early morning walk through the beautiful Demesne here in Killarney. Spendthrift or saver? At different times in my life I have done both to excess. Are you religious? Yes. Name one thing you think would improve the area in which you live? I'm really happy with the area in which I live. But you can never have too much community pride or civic spirit, so maybe a little bit more of both would be welcome What makes you happy? Living and working in Killarney. How would you like to be remembered? I'd like to be remembered with fondness and respect and, hopefully, with a smile on the rememberer's face! Geraldine Rosney is a native of Galway who now lives and works in Killarney. She and her husband, Michael, own and run the award- winning Killeen House Hotel which was recently voted one of the world’s top hidden gems. A keen golfer and a mem- ber at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, she is the cur- rent national president of Skål which is an international association for tourism and travel professionals.
