1. TErrAin-sPEcific Tricks— Earn points doing the tricks that correspond with the different types of terrain (flat, manual, pool, etc.) as described in the packet. Tricks are divided by difficulty into Hard, Harder, Hardest, and Fucked Up.

*NoTE: The point structure has changed from past years.

— Hard tricks are worth 20 points— Harder tricks are worth 30 points— Hardest tricks are worth 50 points— fucked up tricks are worth 100 points (not available for some terrain)

�. Misc. chAllEnGEsAs listed in the packet, also ranked and scored Hard, Harder, and Hardest.

�. ciTy chAllEnGEsEach team will be required to visit four cities as described on their route. In each of these cities you will open the corresponding envelope to find challenges each worth 50 points.

4. lonGEsT, hiGhEsT, MosTTeams will compete against one another via their footage to be judged by Phelps. Each is worth 50 points.

IMpOrtaNt: only one person from the team is required to complete a trick or challenge to earn the points (unless the challenge specifically says “everyone”).

The rULes


all decisions by Jake phelps are fair and binding.

each team will be given their departure city by July 24th.

You must go to all the cities on your route in the order they are listed. anywhere else is up to you.

all city challenge envelopes are to be opened only after entering the city limits of said city.

You will receive your packet containing all the challenges and your cities by august 24th at the latest. do not open it until friday, august 24th at 11:59pm. this is the official start of the kOtr 2007.

You must be in Milwaukee, WI on sept. 1st to pick up your Mystery Guest, and in san diego on sept. 7th to deliver your footage.

You must pick up and take care of your Mystery Guest. anyone without a Mystery Guest at the end will have 100 points deducted.

Only a member of the team, the immediate media (the photographer and video guy), and the Mystery Guest can earn points.

Only one person from the team is required to complete a trick or challenge to earn the points (unless the challenge specifically says “everyone”).

“everyone” means the team, the photographer, the videographer, and the Mystery Guest, if he’s been picked up yet.

Only one person can earn the points on any specific trick; i.e., just because two people can do it doesn’t mean you get the points twice.

Meet the challenges to the best of your abilities and understanding. any ambiguities in the wording of the challenges are unintentional. the most obvious answer is usually the correct one. Looking for loopholes and point-grubbing are considered poor form.

the validity of imperfect landings will be at Jake phelps’ discretion.

In the event of a tie on Highest, Longest, Most challenges (for example, if two teams have a 20-stair ollie), both teams get the 50 points.

In the event of a tie for the entire event (i.e., two teams have the same point total), the winner will be decided by a game of skate with each of the tying teams nominating one team member to compete.

Ins and Outs – team members may leave from and return to the tour at any time. However, they cannot earn points while away, nor can their team earn points where “everyone” is required to do a challenge.

there are to be no substitutions even in the case of injury.

all expenses are the responsibility of the participating companies, not Thrasher magazine or High speed productions.

the team with the most points will be the king of the road. they will receive the title, the trophy, and prize money. One member of the winning team will be featured on the cover of the Thrasher king of the road issue.

each team is responsible for providing a substantial and quality feature for the Thrasher kOtr issue, and a substantial and quality section for the Thrasher kOtr 2007 dVd.

each team must deliver their logged footage to Thrasher by Monday, October 1st.

By participating in the kOtr event, you have agreed to these rules.

— You must pick up your Mystery Guest in Milwaukee, WI on september 1st and take him with you until september 9th in san diego. You are also responsible for getting him on his flight home on september 9th. anyone without a Mystery Guest at the end will have 100 points deducted.

— You are responsible for the lodging and feeding of your Mystery Guest. Thrasher pays for the flights.

— phelps will call you the morning of the 1st to give you info on picking up your Mystery Guest.

— In the event of a Mystery Guest not showing, you will be assigned a substitute by Jake phelps.

— Mystery Guests are counted as full members of the team and can earn points like everyone else.

— Your Mystery Guest is a legend and should be treated as such.

The MYsTerY gUesT ?

TEAM MAnAGErsTeam managers are invited to come along, however they cannot earn points.

PhoToGrAPhErsPhotographers are responsible for covering the entire event and should have at least one cover-worthy photo in case their team wins.

VidEoGrAPhErsPlease read video guidelines in the back of this packet.

PrEPPinG ThE fooTAGE for JudGinGEach videographer must have a laptop and be able to edit footage. Each team’s footage should be organized exactly like it is in the packet, with clear labels on each clip. City Challenges, Terrain Challenges, Misc. Challenges, and Highest, Longest, Most should all be included. Example: The screen will say Manual and then you will put all your manual clips in order from Hard to Hardest. For Highest, Longest, Most, the screen will say Biggest Rail and then you put in your team’s biggest rail, etc. Each team will present their DV tape to Phelps for the judging. Please make it as easy to follow as possible.

JudGinGThrasher ’s Greg Smith and Kevin Convertito will be auditing all the footage with Jake Phelps. Jake will be deciding on sketchy landings or any other issues. Phelps will also decide the winners of all the Highest, Longest, Most categories. These are the only three people involved in the judging process.

AwArdsThrasher is throwing an awards party on the night of Sept. 8th in San Diego. Details will be provided.
