FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK We had a great pilgrimage! I am so glad to be back from the Holy Land, and with you all again! As I mentioned at Mass last weekend, I had the opportunity to carry your personal intentions with me to these holy sites of Our Lord, and to light some candles for my parishes in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The Lord is very good to us, and we continue to give Him thanks for His blessings. Your generosity continues to outpour, most importantly for the St. Vincent Paul Society Thanksgiving food drive. I’ve seen so much food come in, and it warms my heart to know that many families in need will have a nice meal on Thanksgiving because of you. Additionally, you all should be very proud that, as indicated recently in the Catholic Times all 4 parishes in the consortium exceeded their Bishop’s Annual Appeal goal. Keep fulfilling your pledges! Anything that is given above our goal comes back to your parish without the 6% diocesan tax. Those considering large year-end gifts to your parish might consider giving through the BAA, since we know it will come back to the parish tax free. As Thanksgiving approaches, I continue to give thanks that I’m here as your pastor. This is truly a blessing for which I am grateful to God. Speaking of Thanksgiving, our Turkey Trot supports the St. Rose Athletic Association which helps pay for our students to play sports in the area. I am also grateful for the money they give back for such things as painting the trim around the school. Beat the priests Challenge!: Fr. Yakkel and I will be running in the Turkey Trot this year. In addition to my entrance fee, I’ll give $5.00 to the Athletic Association for every youth from high school on down who beats me. I invite any others to get in on this challenge as well pledging $5.00 or $1.00 for every youth that “beats the priests,” and support our St. Rose Athletic Association! Come out and work up an appetite for some turkey!

This is the last weekend in Ordinary Time, and therefore Sunday is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. As we hear in Luke’s gospel, Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world. So too are we reminded that we are in this world but not of this world. We are heirs to His throne because of His saving action on Calvary. Jesus is a just and merciful king, who desires us in heaven with Him. He does not want to exclude us. He wants to welcome us. We see this most evidently as He welcomes the repentant thief into Paradise. Let us profess our faith in Jesus Christ, the King in the midst of the world without fear, and let us live our lives for Him alone refusing to compromise with the world. No sweeter words could be heard when at the end of our lives we come face-to-face with Jesus Christ, the King than,“Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” In Christ Jesus, the King of the Universe,Fr. Hartgep.s. Go Blue Winners!

YOUTH GROUP: On November 24th, Youth Group will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Lower Level/PCC for a discussion/video with Fr. Mike Schmitz then attend The Awakening in the Upper Level/PCC for Adoration from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

THE CROOKSVILLE ECUMENICAL THANKSGIVING SERVICE will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Iliff United Methodist Church, 3922 Flint Ridge Road, Crooksville, where the Sounds of Faith Community Choir will be rendering songs of faith and fellowship.

CATECHISM CORNER 450: From the beginning of Christian history, the assertion of Christ’s lordship over the world and over history has implicitly recognized that man should not submit his personal freedom in an absolute manner to any earthly power, but only to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Caesar is not “the Lord.” “The Church. . . believes that the key, the center and the purpose of the whole of man’s history is to be found in its Lord and Master.”451: Christian prayer is characterized by the title “Lord,“ whether in the invitation to prayer (“The Lord be with you“), its conclusion (“through Christ our Lord“) or the exclamation full of trust and hope: Maran atha (“Our Lord, come!“) or Marana tha (“Come, Lord!“) – “Amen Come Lord Jesus!“1040: The Last Judgment will come when Christ returns in glory. Only the Father knows the day and the hour; only He determines the moment of its coming. Then through His Son Jesus Christ He will pronounce the final word on all history. We shall know the ultimate meaning of the whole work of creation and of the entire economy of salvation and understand the marvelous ways by which His Providence led everything towards its final end. The Last Judgment will reveal that God’s justice triumphs over all the injustices committed by His creatures and that God’s love is stronger than death.2816: In the New Testament, the word basileia can be translated by “kingship” (abstract noun), “kingdom” (concrete noun) or “reign” (action noun). The Kingdom of God lies ahead of us. It is brought near in the Word incarnate, it is proclaimed throughout the whole Gospel, and it has come in Christ’s death and Resurrection. The Kingdom of God has been coming since the Last Supper and, in the Eucharist, it is in our midst. The kingdom will come in glory when Christ hands it over to His Father: It may even be . . . that the Kingdom of God means Christ Himself, whom we daily desire to come, and whose coming we wish to be manifested quickly to us. For as He is our resurrection, since in Him we rise, so he can also be understood as the Kingdom of God, for in Him we shall reign.
