A Guide for How to Use this Book

Dear Parents and Educators,

As we’re facing a very heartbreaking and sobering time, I hope that this book might serve as a

resource to inform, equip, and encourage kids to care for others and for themselves amid the

pandemic. More so, I pray that it would point them to the One who demonstrated the greatest

care on our behalf.

In King Covid and the King Who Cares, there are larger theological concepts that are

lightly mentioned on certain pages in response to sickness, disease, and death. As kids learn

about what Jesus accomplished and what He promised to do, my hope is that this book might

generate many questions by them as you read the book together.

My desire is that these questions would encourage visiting the Word of God! I pray that this

might lead to fuller, richer, and deeper discussions that would shed light into the beautiful

hope that we have in the gospel. As a resource to foster this, I have included a section

called ‘Back to the Bible’ on the last page that lists out categories of theological concepts

with scripture references.

Blessings to you and to the children under your care!

“They lay their crowns before the throne and say: ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’”

It’s called a coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

In late 2019, a strange germ appeared that was unlike any other.

This germ is a virus. It’s very new, so scientists are still trying

to get to know it.

But it’s not quite friendly. In fact, it’s very sneaky.

There are three places where the virus can get inside and make us sick: your eyes, your nose, and your mouth.

If we do get sick by coronavirus, we might feel tired with a cough, a sore throat, or a fever.

But don’t worry! Most of us will feel better soon.

King Jesus came to love us,* forgive us, and heal us from dangerous sicknesses and diseases

(diseases like King Covid).

*It’s okay to feel sad when we lose someone we love–Jesus wept too. We can look to Jesus

for comfort and care because He is with us.

Did you know that our greatest danger is not King Covid? Our greatest danger is our sin. By dying on the cross for us, King Jesus took on all of our sicknesses.*

*Jesus paid for our sin by dying on the cross, so that we are healed and given eternal life when we trust in Him.

Though he died, King Jesus came back to life! He proved to us that we don’t have to be afraid of

sickness, disease, or even death!

Even though many people still get sick and have a hard time getting better, King Jesus promised

that one day, there will be no more pain, no more sadness, and no more death.

“Behold, I am making all things new.”

There will be no more death or

mourning or crying or pain...

Until then, we want to care for others just as King Jesus cares for us. This is our superpower,*

to care like He does as we trust in Him!

superpower delivery

How do we use this superpower against King Covid?

*When we trust in Jesus, He gives us His Spirit to care like He does. This is supernatural.

Superpower Step #1: Wash your hands! Washing our hands with soap and water

for 20 seconds will protect us from spreading the virus to ourselves and to others.

Superpower Step #2: Try not to touch your face! This will make it much harder for King Covid

to get to your eyes, nose, and mouth.

If we rub our eyes, wipe our mouth, or pick our nose (yuck),

we might get sick and then spread the virus to others.

to make people sick.

by protecting them from germs.

Crown Him with many crowns,

The lamb upon the throne:

Hark! How the heav’nly anthem drowns

All Music but its own!

Awake, my soul, and sing

Of Him who died for thee,

And hail him as thy matchless King

Through all eternity.
