    - Kinds Of Polygonconvex polygon - a polygon such that no sideextended cuts any other side or vertex; it can

    be cut by a straight line in at most two pointsconcave polygon - a polygon such that there isa straight line that cuts it in four or more pointsquadrangle, quadrilateral, tetragon - a four-sided polygontriangle, trigon, trilateral - a three-sidedpolygonpentagon - a five-sided polygonhexagon - a six-sided polygonheptagon - a seven-sided polygonoctagon - an eight-sided polygonnonagon - a nine-sided polygondecagon - a polygon with 10 sides and 10anglesundecagon - an eleven-sided polygon

dodecagon - a twelve-sided polygonspherical polygon - a figure on the surface of asphere bounded by arcs of 3 or more greatcircles

Classifying Triangles according to theLength of their Sides

    Scalene Triangles

A parallelogram has twoparallel pairs of opposite sides.

A rectangle has two pairs of

opposite sides parallel, and fourright angles. It is also aparallelogram, since it has twopairs of parallel sides.

A square has two pairs ofparallel sides, four right angles, and all four sides are equal. It is

    also a rectangle and aparallelogram.

A rhombus is defined as aparallelogram with four equalsides. Is a rhombus always arectangle? No, because arhombus does not have to have

4 right angles.Trapezoids only have one pairof parallel sides. It's a type ofquadrilateral that is not aparallelogram. (British name:Trapezium)

Kites have two pairs of adjacent

    sides that are equal.

A scalene triangle has no equal sides.

    Equilateral Triangles

An equilateraltriangle has all sides equal.

    Isosceles Triangles

An isoscelestriangle has two sides equal.

An acute-angled triangle has all angles lessthan 90 (i.e. all three angles are acute).

An obtuse-angled triangle has one anglegreater than 90.That is, one angle is obtuse.

A right-angledtriangle has one angle is aright angle.equal to 90.That is, one angle

    Definitions

CentreIt is in the centre of the circle and the distancefrom this point to any other point on thecircumference is the same.

    Radius

The distance from the centre to any point onthe circle is called the radius. A diameter istwice the distance of a radius.

    Circumference

The distance around a circle is itscircumference. It is also theperimeter of the circle

    Arc

An arc is a part of the circumference of a circle. The longer arc is called the major arc while theshorter one is called the minor arc.

Chord is a straight line joining two points onthe circumference. The longest chord in acalled a diameter. The diameter passedthrough the centre.

    Sector

A sector is a region enclosed by two radii and

an arc. Refer to the figure given,ROS

is calledthe angle subtened by the arc RS at the centreO. The larger sector is called the major sectorwhile the smaller one, a minor sector.

    Segment

A segment of a circle is the region enclosed

by a chord and an arc of the circle. The largersegment is the major segment while thesmaller one, the minor segment.

    Secant

A secant is a straight line cutting at two distinctpoint

    Tangent

If a straight line and a circle have only onepoint of contact, then that line is called atangent. A tangent is always perpendicular tothe to the radius drawn to the point of contact. This property is abbreviated as tan ^ rad.
