the second one): Go to your HOME page Gear Wheel (upper right) > More... >
Applications Set upper drop-down filter menu to "All
Applications" Swipe down to "Browser" "Force Stop"

not, then do the above again, only this time add: "Clear Data"
Clearing Data' will unfortunately wipe out your browser bookmarks and passwords but should get the Silk web browser started. Be sure to do the below steps within the web browser to finish setting it up:

into a computerBackup/copy over the Fire's /Books, /Documents,
/Pictures, /Video, Download & /Video folders to your HDD (for restore later). NOT all of the folders.
Gear Wheel > More...> Device > Reset to Factory Defaults
(You'll need to scroll down to see the 'Device' Line and then the 'Reset' line)

Unplug the Fire from the computerRestart the Fire by holding in the power button
