Downtown Announcements Downtown is starting to get rid of the orange cones and become full of new business announcements The firstone was a big one Across the street from both of our restaurants they will soon begine construction on The Cyrus Hotel a Boutique hotelwwwcyrushotelcom I was sad that I missed that announcment I wasnt about to miss the next one We were invited to the old catholic schoolon Jackson Here we were excited to hear about the apartments that my friend Mark Burenheide and other investors have started developmenton Jackson Street Lofts will be home to 21 untis one and two bedroom options They plan on having a move in date Fall of 2016

Kansas Trucking I have been working inLawrence for 18 months We recently moved ouroffice to De Soto KS This office gives us morespace for our growing team To start things outright we had our first potluck dinner I was goingto bring sweet potato casserole but I was outvoted so I brought my always famous bananpudding

Twenty years of believing has ldquodouble meaningrdquo this year for the City of Topeka and Downtown TheMiracle on Kansas Avenue (MKA) Parade whose motto is ldquoWe believerdquo celebrates twenty years of adowntown redevelopment focus on the reschedule date of Sunday December 13 Created in 1995 as aproject by the Leadership Topeka class the parade was designed to celebrate the accomplishments ofthe downtown redevelopment for that era Here we are in 2015 celebrating an overdue updating ofdowntown with new infrastructure friendlier streetscapes and new holiday decorations Proof thatTopekans never stop believing The Topeka Rescue Run hosts its benefit run at 5pm The lighted holiday parade follows starting at6pm weather permitting This yearrsquos MKA Parade will be similar to last year except its final leg returns on Kansas Avenue Theroute starting at 5th and Kansas proceeds south to 6th turns west extending to Harrison south onHarrison to 10th east on 10th to Kansas and turns north on Kansas finishing at 5th and Kansas Allentries are to be ldquolightedrdquo and ldquofestively decoratedrdquo to qualify for entry entering at 1st and Kansasstarting at 3pm New this year in response to the publicrsquos request the parade committee will allowonly one realistic Santa in the parade the ldquoofficial Santa and Mrs Clausrdquo riding on the final float OtherSantas like inflatables or Grinch character figures are allowed but subject to review Size restrictionsapply to float entries for the publicrsquos safety banning semi-tractortrailer rigs Full details are availableon the facebook link Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade amp Activities Street closures and parking are always topics of interest The staging area (Kansas Avenue from 1st to5th) will be closed at 2pm with the remainder of the parade route closing closer to 4pm The TopekaPolice Department is banning parking from 3pm to parade close on Kansas Avenue from 10th to 1st butpeople will be allowed to park on the parade route outside that area (6th Street Harrison 10th Street) Handicap Parking is available at 10th amp Harrison in the Judicial Parking Lot entering from 12th Street Most City Public Garages will be open for free parking as well as the City Lot at 8th amp Madison ldquoWe believerdquo wersquoll have better weather this time
