People have been skiing in Kimberley or 110years now. Evah McGowan was a teacher inKimberley in 1903 and used to take her stu-dents out on the slopes during recess. Wecan only assume that these were the rst ski-iers on the run which is now appropriatelycalled Schoolhouse. Te new lodge was a beautiul log cabin with a large stone place and a generator to run some electric lights. Te ski rwas even lit at times or night skiing. Since there was no lskiiers had to earn their turns and hike to the top. Even thouthere was no lit; on weekends hundreds o people would the 4km rom town over to the hill to get a ew runs in. Twere some great times had by all; some serious skills were d

veloped and plenty o cofee and hot chocolate was drank in tancy lodge. Ten Hitler had to go and ruin everything. Maskiiers that were just getting to be in their prime were shippof overseas to ght the Nazis. By the time they got back skiihad become so popular that the Kimbelrey Ski Club was ougrowing Myrtle Mountain and moved back to the North SHill. So next time your strolling through the Nature Park (phaps at the KNPS guided snowshoe hike on Saturday Janua12) and you get to Mytle Junction, try to spot where the lod

used to be. Te run is a bit grown in but still noticeable anda reminder o Kimberleys skiing heritage.
