Dear Member/s,

It gives me great pleasure as Chairman to sincerely thank our new PRO Malachy McVeigh and assistant treasurer Nathan McVeigh for producing and publishing the club’s first ever monthly newsletter. I feel it is absolutely essential that everyone in our community is made aware of the wide and varied range of activities that are undertaken within the club on a regular basis. We may be a small club but we are a vibrant one at the heart of the community, providing not only physical and recreational activities but promoting our cultural identity as well as a vitally important social and community support network.

In this first edition, I wish to thank the committee and members for the enthusiastic manner in which they have embraced the extra workload associated with our Club Maith application. If our application is successful, we will be credited with the best practice in all aspects of the club’s activities both on and off the field. We will expect nothing less than the highest standards of good governance within the club.

I would like to take this opportunity to refer to the club’s Golden Jubilee celebrations which commences in April and continues into 2014, culminating in our gala dinner and the publication of our club history. We are in the process of finalising our programme of events and these will be released to the press within the next few weeks. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

Senior Football

New senior managers for the 2013 season are Niall O’Neill and Brian Taggart. Training sessions have been on going since Mid January which have been well attended. The first challenge match kicked off with a win at home over Lissan. The final score was 3-08 to 0-10. The first league match is scheduled for the 14th April. As usual it will be difficult to put out two teams this year so if you are a past player and want to give it another go, the club would be pleased to see you. Also if anyone knows of anyone outside our area who has quit football but may have an interest to play for the club at either senior or youth level then please advise the committee as we would be keen to investigate this further.

What’s been going on!! Killyman entered three sections of this years Senior Scór competition. The first round was hosted by the club in the Community Centre with representation from Terry McKenna in solo singing, our Quiz team and our Ballad Group which successfully reached the Tyrone County Final - a great achievement for this group who came together a week before the competition started.

The club hosted a Child Protection Course in the clubrooms which was attended by members of Pomeroy, Kildress and Derrylaughan clubs. Killyman had 24 out of the total of 35 participating in the course which I have no doubt was the

highest numbers from any Tyrone club this year

A few days later a large number of players and members attended a meeting in the clubrooms to receive a presentation and explanation of football playing rules by two members of the Tyrone Referee's board.

On the 23rd Feb the Ulster Council arranged various courses for club officials in new positions to attend to get development training. Eleven members from the club attended these courses which was the highest club representation.

The Ulster Council ran a number of coaching sessions in Cookstown and Eglish and again these were well attended by club officials.

Upcoming events Youth trip to Dublin

Youth Members trip to see the Dublin v Tyrone League match on 16th March. This is open to all our youth members. Young children Under 8 must be accompanied by one parent. Cost is £5 and children must take a packed lunch. Contact any committee members for further details.

Launch of the Jubilee Celebrations

6th April 1964 Killyman played Mountjoy (Brocagh) in their first league game. On the 6th April 2013 we will launch our year of celebrations with Killyman v Brocagh under 14 league match. A number of other events are being arranged to kick start this very significant historic commemoration and our year of celebration. Everyone is very welcome. We will publish details in the press and email those on our mailing list.

Killyman Golf Classic

Brush the cobwebs off your clubs or borrow someone else’s and join the club in our first ever Golf Classic being held on the 28th June. We are looking for golfers and sponsors so contact Jim McAlinden or any member of the Committee for further information.

Killyman Footballer now a movie star

Many of you may have picked up through the newspapers, television or even by attending the movies that a local lad Fra Fee Drumkee Rd is making headlines in the recently released movie Les Miserables. Many of us who have known Fra from a lad when he played football for the club at underage level would have witnessed on many occasions his star qualities especially as a competitor in Scór competitions. He represented the club and was crowned All Ireland Champion in the Solo Singing section. I’m sure many have also witnessed and admired his contribution to the beautiful music at the Christmas Eve nativity mass along with his sisters over the years. His current rise to fame in Les Miserables is an extension of a list of roles that he has played over the years but undoubtedly this has to be the highlight. We wish Fra continued success and watch his career progress with great interest.
