    The Thoughts

Season So Far:Beginning the season in NSCAs C-Grade division, the Bingles poweredthrough their opening four matches. Scores of 250+ were recorded inrounds 1 & 2 for easy wins whilst in rounds 3 & 4 a total of just 3wickets were lost in pursuit of victory. The step up to B-Grade provedmuch tougher but did not alter the pattern of results with Killara pullingoff a stirring comeback win against Old Iggys Colts. The winning streakended at five but a bye landed perfectly for the new-comers; two winsoff the back of the rest, including a resounding trouncing of competitionfavourites, The Dreggs, shot the Bingles to the top of the B-Gradeladder. Five changes the following week brought Killara back to earth asthey crashed to a defeat against the bottom placed Jets. When NorthsLeagues inflicted a tight two-wicket loss on the Bingles in round 11,Killara had dropped consecutive matches for the first time. However inround 12 the Bingles batting outshone their bowling for once to see

them into the Christmas/New Year break with a win over the Gypsies.

Areas For Improvement:No question that the Bingles can batter better than what they have

through the first half of the season. The first four rounds didnt reallyhighlight some of the deficiencies in the willow wielders, howevercracks appeared the further the season progressed. While the Binglesbatting lends itself to entertainment over durability, time at the creaseis more valuable than time spent admiring your captains stroke makingfrom the stand. Theres no doubting that Killara have relied heavily on

Julian Nicholls to dig them out of trouble & carry them through most oftheir innings. The skippers tally this season is 163 runs more than thenext best & accounts for more than 20% of the sides total runs scored.

Poor shot selection, impatience & losing wickets in clumps needs to bereplaced by better judgement, an ability to build partnerships &perseverance if the Bingles want to give the premiership a shake. TheBingles fielding has also been particularly wishy washy in 2012/13,highlighted by an abysmal nine dropped catches in round 10. Energy inthe field could also use a lift while its at ferocious levels early on, theBingles have a tendency to wane a little when their mental fortitude istested.

Bingles Are Best At:Bowling, Bowling & more Bowling in particular FAST bowling! In WillReed, Ed Lembke-Hogan & Jared Barry, Killara has three of the mostterrifying fast bowlers this side of the bridge. The triumvirate havecombined for one third of the Bingles wickets this season through avery watchable blend of speed, bounce & brutality. Reed leads the wayfor the Bingles with 18 but will only feature again if the side qualifies forthe Grand Final. Injury also threatens to curtail Barrys leather flingingdays, meaning the Bingles will need to develop their bowling depth to

maintain a winning way in 2013. The side boasts several sound mediumpace & swing options but theyll be looking for a lift from the likes ofDuck Turner & Jack Mansfield in the absence of Reed & Barry.

The teams culture is also dynamic, warm & uplifting. Killara havecreated a holistic cricketing environment evidenced by an extremelysuccessful Movember Charity Day & the weekly BBQ & beers. Thelonger the season has run the more fans have jumped on the Binglesbandwagon, making the long afternoons all the more enjoyable. Andwithout blowing our own trumpet too much the Bingles have played the

competition in an outstanding & sporting fashion, drawing complimentsfrom the opposition on numerous occasions

    Predicted Finish

    3/3

    3rd

Its extremely tight at the top just nine competition points (thats a win& a half) separates 1st to 6th. The Bingles suffer a little misfortune in thatthey will play all the sides with them in the top four once again thisseason though some would argue what better way to prepare for a tiltat the premiership? They will also need to cover a host of departed/ing

players including Reed, Mansfield, Luke Achterstraat as well as an injuryaffected Barry. At their best they are one of the two Grand Finalists, however maintaining a top four position will be somewhat of achallenge.
