DO YOU have faith in our politicians? That’s the question which Presentation Secondary Transition Year student Aoife Brassil put to teenagers in our city. The result is a resounding thumbs down. Aoife was on work experience with The Reporter. She is daughter of Margaret and Joe Brassil, Smithlands, and has two brothers in Kilkenny CBS Secondary, Conor and Niall. Aoife, aged 16, did a brilliant interviewing job and is a credit to her school and family.

Book of the weekAS a footballer, Josep ‘Pep’ Guardiola was a much-acclaimed defensive midfielder who spent the majority of his playing career with FC Barcelona.

He was part of the great Johan Cruyff’s ‘dream team’ that won the club’s first European Cup. After retiring as a player, Guardiola became a coach at Barcelona, succeeding Frank Rijkaard as first-team manager in 2008. In his first

season, he led the team to the treble of La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League - and became the youngest-ever winning manager of that tournament.

The team comprises global stars like Lionel Messi, Xavi and Iniesta and continues to compete at a level its rivals cannot match. This book tells how Pep Guardiola did it, playing the Beautiful Game - and winning.

THE Pearly Whites are on Friday 22 March at The Left Bank

The Pearly Whites are a 10 Piece Modern showband that boasts a thumping rhythm section, smooth four-part vocal harmonies, an explosive

four-piece brass section and fantastic male and female lead vocals.

Having played nationwide at all types of events, the band has developed a set so diverse that it can cater for all audiences.

So if you like

jiving to the big band sounds of the 20s or you prefer to just go mad at the modern classics of the Black Eyed Peas or Paulo Nutini then The Pearly Whites are for you.

GUTS and glory combined to deliver a truly impressive sporting triumph for a previously unheralded collection of sporting heroines.

And so, to the whooping delight of their 500 loyal travelling fans, and the thousands who watched the gripping proceedings on TV, Ireland’s women’s

rugby team secured a historic first Grand Slam yesterday with their 6-3 win over Italy.

On a weekend when the men’s side slumped to their worst ever Six Nations performance since the late 1990s, Ireland’s women salvaged some pride from a wretched spring for international rugby.
