REPORTER WISH LIST THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE THINGS...

Brilliant foundationYVES Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Foundation is the best make-up to hit the market in recent years. Every bit as good as the iconic Touche Eclat pen it appears to melt away fi ne lines and blemishes when applied.Infused within a weightless fl uid, the light of Touche Eclat foundation targets shadowy areas and highlights the contours of the face. Free of opaque powders, its perfecting texture evens the complexion and helps conceal imperfections, while enhancing your skin’s natural beauty.Just €38 from Debenhams.ie.

PlaytimePETER Pan collars are still very much on trend for spring summer 2013. The look, that is associated with model and fashionista Alexa Chung, works on every age group and size. This Savida playsuit (€45) is due into Dunnes Stores next month and would

look great worn with black opaques or bare legs when warmer weather arrives.

Remove stubborn eye make-upMASCARA can be impossible to remove and there is nothing worse than waking up every morning with panda eyes. You can spend a fortune buying eye make-up removers and the majority of them sting the eyes off you or barely remove any mascara at all.Bi-Facil by Lancome however performs brilliantly while also being extremely gentle on sensitive eyes. Shake the bottle to activate the bi-phase formula. Dampen a cotton pad until it turns blue, rest them on your eyes for a few seconds, then gently sweep down to fully remove your eye makeup.

Giant couscousIF you like couscous but have never tried giant couscous you are in for a treat. It has a much nicer fl avour as it has been toasted in an open fl ame oven which

allows it to keep its shape and al dente texture after cooking. The pearl-like grains are a tasty alternative to ordinary couscous or pasta and it takes just six to eight minute to cook.Available in Superquinn.

Suitcase jacketIF you are planning any holidays or weekends away then you should get your hands on a Rufus Roo suitcase jacket so that you can avoid crippling luggage charges. The innovative design enables you to ‘wear’ up to 10Kg of luggage by carrying it in very large pockets. The

durable

lightweight jacket has four large and two small pockets and is worn over the top of clothes during boarding and stored under the seat during fl ight.Originally designed for fl ight baggage the jacket is useful for carrying kids’ stuff , commuting to work, shopping without bags and travelling to music festivals and sports events.See Rufusroo.com.

Pick of the crop!SLIGHTLY cropped or 7/8 trousers and jeans were all over the catwalks for spring summer 2013. They are also beginning to make their way into shops and will be one of the biggest trends for the coming year. They are a really easy style to wear

as they can be dressed up with heals or down with canvas lace-ups or ballet pumps. They also have the welcome eff ect of making your leg look longer. This pair by MiH Jeans is available from Asos.com.

Pretty Polly!MAKE a statement with these pretty Polly parrot earrings by Accessorize.

They are perfect for the coming season and would add an extra edge to any outfi t.Animal motifs were a big trend last year and are set to continue appearing everywhere from jewellery and accessories to jumpers and dresses.

Acid tonesBRIGHTLY coloured hand bags are a key trend this spring with yellow being one of the easiest colours to integrate into a wardrobe.Yellow goes with pretty much every other colour so you would be guaranteed to get mileage out of a bag in this shade. This acid Marie tote by Accessorize would make a great summer handbag.

Book of the week‘THE Spinning Heart’ by Donal Ryan has won every award imaginable for this, his debut novel, which has set reviews ablaze with superlatives.

As if the Patrick McCabe of ‘The Butcher Boy’ period

tackled the recession in a Munster small town this is a really hilarious and fi nely tuned piece of fi ction.

Tipperary-born Ryan writes of a world that is sadly familiar to many, from unemployed builders to those in the coping

class hanging onto their last scrap of decency, it brilliantly encapsulates these terrible times. His spare prose and ear for witty dialogue make this one of the best Irish books in years.

THE London Classic Theatre brings Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ to The Watergate Theatre on February 22 and 23. This perennial favourite will be sure to pack the theatre as it is on the school curriculum. However, that should not put you off as this is one of the more entertaining pieces of theatre ever written.

The timeless characters, crazy plot, uproarious dialogue and just a dash of romance make this

a great night out. Infl uential of everything

from Morrissey to Monty Python, Oscar Wilde was

the funniest man who every breathed air so don’t miss this if you enjoy a giggle.

FUTURE Beauty? Runs at the National Craft Gallery, Castle Yard until March 18. It is an exhibition of everyday and extraordinary objects – pots, jewels, sculpture and furniture – designed and made in 26 independent Irish studios in the past year.

The exhibition is a rare collision of materials,

technologies and cultural infl uences, all linked by the experience of intelligent making.

The show invites us to consider the current shape of art and design in Ireland, and, to consider the ways in which the thinking and the objects from these makers may infl uence our understanding of

art and design in the future. It is curated by UK based independent curator and writer on craft and design, Amanda Game. She is currently undertaking doctoral research at the RCA in London on the role and impact of exhibition making as a way of communicating tacit values.

IRISH beauty brand, KARORA is donating €2 to the Irish Heart Foundation for every KARORA product sold during February at www.sammccauleys.com.

Speaking about why she decided to support the Foundation, Karen Brown, founder of the brand said: “Heart disease is the biggest killer of women and men in Ireland and we want to help highlight this

shocking statistic. My own father, Alan died in 2004 at just 41 years of age from sudden cardiac arrest, leaving

behind a family of fi ve children with me the eldest at 16. Dad was a teetotaller

and non

smoker – he didn’t even drink coff ee and the devastation of his early and sudden death aff ected us all profoundly.”

She added that KARORA were very proud to support the Irish Heart Foundation because many of the deaths from cardiovascular disease are preventable and prevention is at the core of everything the Irish Heart Foundation does.

NICHOLAS Mosse Pottery is renowned worldwide and there are few homes in Ireland without at least one piece of his distinctive work.

The pottery in Bennettsbridge was established by Nicholas in 1976 after periods of training in England and Japan. His mission was to produce beautiful, functional pottery in the style of Irish sponge

ware - the traditional pottery of Ireland which used in the 18th century. The decoration was rurally inspired often using images of animals

and plants popular in the region.

Nicholas set up the pottery in an old fl our mill producing his pottery in the traditional way, by

hand. The clay was mixed locally and the kilns were fi red by hydropower from the River Nore. The pottery was decorated by hand with a wide range of natural forms and patterns.

From these small beginnings the business has evolved into being one of Ireland’s best known and most popular potteries.

‘HAMELL On Trial’ and ‘Jinx Lennon’ play Cleere’s Theatre on February 22. Hamell On Trial is an American performer who is a Kilkenny regular and every gig is spoken about with reverence. Occupying a territory somewhere between punk rock and stand up comedy this man is a hero to anyone who loves Bill

Hicks or the Dead Kennedys.

In a perfect pairing with Ireland’s own answer to The Fall’s Mark E Smith, Jinx Lennon the poet rapper from Dundalk uses razor sharp lyrics and funky beats to tear apart what some might view as the hypocrisies and lies our Government and society feeds us.

He has a passionate stage presence too which can be a little disturbing and really entertaining.

Both are superb makers of music and know how to get their audience angry, laughing and dancing- sometimes all at the same time. These two legends are defi nitely worth catching.

WITH beef being off the menu in many Irish households of late it’s a good time to rediscover the many types of fi sh that are native to Ireland.

Better still why not try some local fi sh produced by Goatsbridge Trout Farm in Thomastown? Established in 1961 Goatsbridge Trout Farm is a thriving family business where they take huge pride

in producing farm fresh, premium quality Irish trout.

They are one of the few trout farms that produce

truly local products from start to fi nish. They grow their fi sh through their whole lifecycle from tiny eggs to fully adult fi sh. They are passionate about the philosophy of ‘farm to fork’ so their customers can enjoy a taste and freshness that is second to none.

Contact them at 086 8188340 or 086 2544906 to arrange a visit or for a list of suppliers.
