The Question of Quality• CSO has to adhere to International Standards
set down for NSI’s (also apply to any other producer of ‘European statistics’)
• Known as the European Statistics Code of Practice (ESCoP)
• 15 different standards covering various elements of statistical production• Independence, release calendaring etc. etc.

What is the ISSCoP?• Subset of the ESCoP• Covers main elements of independence and
objectivity required to ensure confidence in Official Statistics
• CSO will launch along with practical guidelines
• Discussing with public sector organisations to sign up to the code

Why have a code of practice?• Intention is to build a system which gives
people confidence in all official statistics• CSO will launch a logo to identify statistics
adhering to the code• Process will take time and engagement

What will happen next?• Launch of ISSCoP (21st November)• Organisations signing up to the code will agree
a list of Official Statistics with the DG of CSO• Self-assessments• Launch of ISS logo• Extend range of organisations, statistics etc.
