TCCG believes that children are filled with creative potential that blossoms at an early age. We are a collaboration of services that are available in Darwin, Palmerston and Rural Areas with an innovative faculty that promises meaningful partnerships with children, families and our community. At TCCG the child is viewed as a strong, influential and rich in potential; driven by the power of wanting to strive, grow and learn, through the nurturing and guidance of our educators who take this ambition towards growth seriously. TCCG educators encourage children in their quest to learn about themselves and the world around them through discovery, exploration and trial and error. Territory Child Care Group is a community based, not-for-profit organisation that has been providing child care for Territory families since 1977 and further, is

The school has taken the best of national and international curricula and learning programs to put together a unique, enhanced, high quality educational experience for children in a seamless way from Preschool to Year 12 – and University.A SEAMLESS EDUCATION:Montessori Based Preschool ProgramThe child care programs are Montessori inspired, while the School’s Preschool educational program is Modern Montessori based on top of the new national Early Years Learning Framework. Primary YearsIn the primary years, classroom teachers teach core subjects from the Australian Curriculum whilst specialist teachers are engaged to teach Transition to Year 5 students in specialist teaching facilities in Physical Education, Visual Art, Music, Languages, and Computing.A Proven, Successful Middle School Program, The First in the NTThe unique Essington Middle School program, the first Middle School in the Northern Territory, commences at Year 6 and goes through to Year 9. It is based on authentic, best practice middle school programs delivered in high performing Middle Schools in the United States and in Australian capital cities. The new Australian curriculum provides the curriculum foundations for the Middle School program, which is then enhanced and extended with curriculum programs from the UK, US and other international school programs. The School has just been accredited to deliver the British International General

Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) from 2014. The curriculum, pastoral care and teaching style is based around needs of emerging young adults. The success of the Middle School program, and the underpinning primary curriculum program, is clearly demonstrated in the high learning outcomes of students on national and international assessment programs. The Middle School program offers a variety of learning experiences: camps and outdoor education, Duke of Edinburgh Award Program, tours interstate and overseas, radio broadcasting, aquaculture, dance, music, singing, vacation school and extension programs, additional sporting programs, to name a few. Literacy and numeracyvital for all students

As over 44,000 students return to school for Term 3, the NT Government has reiterated the importance of literacy and numeracy and has called on all teachers to participate in National Literacy and Numeracy Week, from 29 July until 4 August 2013. Susan Bowen, Deputy Chief Executive School Education and Training Operations of the Department of Education and Children’s Services says that basic literacy and numeracy skills underpin all school learning activities. “During National Literacy and Numeracy Week teachers will be placing emphasis on these most vital skills to ensure all students have a solid base on which other learnings can be built. During this week teachers will also start working with students towards the Chief Minister’s Literacy

Achievement Awards which are held later in the year,” she said. The Chief Minister’s Literacy Achievement Awards recognise the vital role that literacy plays in preparing young Territorians for their continuing education and later life. The awards recognise excellence in students from Transition to Year 9 at both NT Government and non-government schools.Teachers will nominate one student from each class whose work is worthy of recognition and

imaginative written, visual or performance of a text; most improved in reading, writing or oral language; and most outstanding communicator at school or in the community. Winners will receive a letter of achievement from the Chief

“The awards are a demonstration of the importance the NT Government places on literacy skills. Without basic literacy skills, people could not read road signs or the names of buildings or

mail directed to them. They could not read or sign a contract, or read the names stored in a mobile phone. Without the ability to read and write, a person’s ability to succeed is severely hampered.“The Government recognises the absolute importance of literacy skills, and these awards are designed to encourage students to work harder to excel in literacy in all its forms, and that process will be brought to the fore in Literacy and Numeracy Week.” She said.
