Kidsave PizzeriaDC Summer Miracles Weekend Event
Event Overview
Kids, their host families, and visiting families participate in an interactive pizza making experience. If possible, a pizza chef from a local pizzeria can demonstrate how to make & toss the dough, and then prepare a pizza. In addition to making their own pizzas, participants prepare a salad and bake cookies. And the best part: they get to eat what they make! Adult volunteers manage the ovens.

A school or church/synagogue kitchen facility with prep area and ovens, adequate prep area with tables or counters and dining area. Oven area should be off limits to children. (In DC, the Lab school cafeteria will serve as the venue.)

Pizza Dough Recipe
Ingredients
1 pkg active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 cups bread flour
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons white sugar
Directions
1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
2. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups bread flour, olive oil, salt, white sugar and the yeast mixture; stir well to combine. Beat well until a stiff dough has formed. Cover and rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
3. Turn dough out onto a well floured surface. Form dough into a round ball and roll out into pizza crust shape.
