The Sweet

Little WitchThe Sweet

Little WitchLong long ago, there lived a sweet, little girl named Jane. She lived with her parents and her brother, Jason. While they looked like any normal family, Jane and her mother were actually witches and her father and brother were wizards!

They all knew magic and life was good because all they had to do was click their fingers to get work done! Jane was happy and loved her life, but what she hated most was Halloween, because the leaves start falling and the days got shorter and colder around Halloween.

While all the children were excited to wear costumes and go trick or treating, Jane hated Halloween

because the witch costumes did not look very nice. “Witches don’t look so horrible,

my mom and I look nice,” said Jane to the kids in her school. All of them

laughed at.

Jane was upset and told her mother she did not want to be a witch anymore. On Halloween night, all the girls from Jane’s school decided to go trick or treating. Jane went along with them even though she did not want to. The last house they went to belonged to a grumpy, old man who hated children. He opened the door but refused to give them any treat and said, “I’d rather take the trick, because I am not scared of children like you!”

One of the girls told him that Jane was a real witch but the grumpy, old man didn’t believe them. “Show him, Jane!” shouted the girls. Jane cast a magic spell and turned the grumpy, old man into a tiny mouse! The grumpy, old man said sorry and asked for forgiveness. Jane turned him back into his old self again. He was so scared that he ran back inside the house and got them a box full of chocolates and asked them to come back every Halloween! Jane became the most popular girl in her class and was happy she was a witch!

Research indicates that children who read everyday perform better in tests.

Parents’ Corner

We can start our children with fractions pretty early. Fold a napkin or a sheet of paper in half, then in quarters. Do that with food on the dining table – cut a roti in half and then a quarter.

Get you child to help you bake a cake. Then cut it up into pieces – starting with half, quarter, and eights. You can do that with a pizza too. You can do this with fruits and vegetables too.

This is a fun game all kids love. It reinforces basic arithmetic concepts at the same time. Here is how you play it – take 10 balls of paper. Give your child 5 and take 5. Toss the balls into the basket taking turns. Then count your score – number in the basket, number outside. Write them in a sheet of paper.

How it helps: Fractions can be a difficult concept when introduced later, but if you child understand the concept practically – the fact that it is really dividing a whole – it gets very easy.

How it helps: Soon she/he will be able to get a good control of the 5-fact family. Change the number of balls to progress. This activity is great in building motor skills too!

Inclusive education is when children, with and without disabilities, participate and learn together in a classroom. Research has shown that inclusive education has a positive impact. KIDS Explore visited Greater Valley School, Greater Noida to understand their special education program. Mrs. Poonam Chaubey, Principal, spoke with us.

Special achievementsMost of our students have won accolades in sports and art competitions held in YMCA (Greater Noida and Delhi). Our student, Somansh Shukla, has been selected from U.P. district to represent India in the upcoming Special Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA in 2015.

“With great power, comes great responsibility. As an educational establishment, it is our foremost responsibility to offer knowledge to all children. By

involving special needs children into our main stream classes we solve a dual purpose - it sensitizes students and also helps these special children learn to interact socially. The special education program at our school ‘SAAMARTH’ - is a cluster of resources that is

dedicated to supporting the educational needs of students with one or more disability areas. The purpose of this early Intervention program is to improve cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional outcomes of young children and lead to their successful inclusion into society. Our school offers specific facilities like Occupational therapy; Pre-vocational training, Special Educators who design and deliver tailor made Individualised Education Plans (IEP) and Speech therapy.”
