Reminders * 8th grade graduation fees are past due. Please bring turn in ASAP. * 7th grade Springfield field trip, permission slip and money are due no later then May 6th

Math In the month of May, our 6th graders will be wrapping up their unit on geometry in which we are learning how to find the area, perimeter, volume, and surface area of two and three-dimensional figures. We will be learning more about our number system in which our 6th graders are introduced to negative numbers. In 7th grade, we have been learning about angle relationships and the various kinds of angles we see in the world around us. We are learning about the relationship of angles and when we are given an angle, we can identify what the angle is or if we are given an angle, we can find the missing angle. We will then be diving into other three-dimensional shapes and what it creates when we slice it. Our 8th graders are learning about geometric transformations on a coordinate grid. We are learning how to perform reflections, rotations, translations, and dilations shapes and the relationship they share after performing each transformation. Students will also be learning how to perform multi-step transformations. We will then be learning about systems of equations and inequalities. Our 8th graders are also coming closer to graduation which will be on June 21. Our 8th graders have been working hard this whole school year and will be trying to finish off this year strong as well as enjoy their last two months as students here at Gunsaulus. There are many activities coming up next month to be prepared for such as the 8th grade luncheon and their class trip to the Warren Dunes. We look forward to all our students walking across that stage as they transition into the next chapter of their lives!

Language Arts All students are finishing up their research unit around The Great Leaders (6th grade), The Holocaust (7th grade), and The Civil Rights Movement (8th grade). Students will be presenting an interactive Prezi project this Monday in class. All grade levels will be starting their new unit on Poetry on May 3. We will be exploring the use of figurative language, as well as, examining different types of poetry styles. This unit will lead us into our NWEA testing, which will begin for all students on May 17th. With only a few weeks left of the school year it is important to make sure all students are reading and logging their hours at home! Don’t forget our Springfield field trip is May 20, 2016!
