Assalam-o-Alaikum!

It is a matter of great honour for me to participate in the “International Conference on Islamic Microfinance” and to give presentation on “Philanthropy and Big Businesses; Linking Microfinance with the Business Community”.

Under the Umbrella of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce, the business community of Sialkot is doing remarkable work towards development of the city and welfare of the people through self help basis culture. The business community especially the exporters of Sialkot have initiated and completed projects of public welfare and common interests such as Sialkot Dry Port Trust, Sialkot City Package, Sialkot International Airport, Child Labour Elimination Programme in Soccer Ball Industry, Sialkot Export Processing Zone, Quality Certification Programme, Sialkot Business and Commerce Centre, Sialkot Industrial Development Centre, Sialkot Tanneries Zone, Khud Kifalat Rozgar Trust Sialkot, etc.

Khud Kafalat Rozgar Trust, Sialkot is the brain child of Sialkot Chamber. Dr. Khurram Anwar Khawaja floated the idea in the year 2008. It gained strength from AKHUWAT and was registered on 30th June,2010 under Societies Registration Act 1860. Akhuwat also provided practical Training and I must thank Dr. Amjid Saqib, Executive Director Akhuwatand his team for providing us operational guidance to run the Trust since its inception.

The Trust provides Qarz-e-Hasna to the deserving persons without discrimination of color, caste and gender enabling them to become self employed by starting or enhancing their small businesses. We have adopted the basic three guiding principles of Akhuwat. 1. Providing interest free micro-credit 2. Qarz-e-Hasna to be disbursed and KKRTS meetings to be held in Mosque 3. Volunteerism (Office Bearers of KKRTS worked voluntarily and staff works with missionary zeal.)

Donations from the philanthropists from the funding source . In order to become a Trustee, the donor undertakes to pay Rs.100,000.00 per annum. Since it is the very first year of our operations the achievements up to now are: a

Total number of Trustees of KKRTS: 32 (SCCI, SDPT, PSL)

Total funds collected up to now: 5,238,000/-

Total amount disbursement up to 30th May,2011: 1,364,000/-

Funds available in Qarz-e-Hasna Bank A/c up to 30th May,2011:

Rs.4,203,535/-

Funds available in Zakat Fund A/c of KKRTS up to 30th May,2011:

Rs. 537,191/-

Number of borrowers/beneficiaries: 62 (male 51, female 11) Muslims: 56 (male 46, female 10)

Non-Muslims: 6 (male 5, female 1)

Qarz-e-Hasna Disbursed for number of Trades or Business: 29

Recovery rate of Qarz-e-Hasna is 100%
