I.A. Nevskaya, Frankfurt

Summary
Kazakstan is a very interesting area for conducting sociolinguistic and
linguacultural research. There are 25 Turkic ethnicities among them Turkish
population is the most numerous. In the Soviet era they were known as Meskhetian
Turks. Turks reside in the southern regions of Kazakhstan. They have preserved the
peculiarities of the variants of the Turkish language, original cultural background,
national traditions. The base for sociolinguistic research was created for the first time
in Kazakhstan within the framework of the international project "Interaction of
Turkic languages and cultures in post-Soviet Kazakhstan".
Key words: Kazakhstan, Turkic ethnicities, Turkic languages, sociolinguistic
research, Turks, Ahiska Turks, Hemshili Turks, variants of the Turkish language.
