Why does Khatu sound familiar?

Khatu is famous for and named after

the Khatu Shyamji Temple. Khatu Shyamji

(or Barbareek), the grandson of Bhima and

son of Ghatotgaj, known for his undefeatable

powerress, is worshipped as an avatar of

Lord Krishna himself. The temple is also

noted for its beautiful expanse of gardens,

the Shyam Baigichi and its pond, the holy

Shyam Sarovar, which is believed to have

healing powers.

The town is also home to the Gourishankar

Temple, famously known to have scared

away the army of Auranzeb, when blood

sproutd from the shiv linga when attacked by

a soldier’s spear. The Jeen Mata Temple (28

kms) that houses an akhand oil lamp gifted

by Aurangzeb himself, and the Harsh Nath

Temple (40 kms) are famous holy shrines

situated close to Khatu.

It attracts lacs of visitors annually and is

believed to be one of the holy towns of

Rajasthan, India. It is often combined with

visits to Jaipur, Salasar temple and Jhunjhunu

Temple.
