NOTABLE EXPERIENCE
USHAKA MARINE WORLD
Ushaka Marine World from a lighting perspective presented quite a challenge. Issues to be
addressed were the different lighting needs from illuminating real and artificial coral, as well as
creating interest across the entire park. All lighting in the park, both technical and aesthetic
was themed and had to illuminate the aquatic context for the ocean life within a strict
aesthetic profile established by the interior designers. The emphasise was on quality of light,
colour and movement. Where natural light was lost or limited this was complimented by
artificial light with careful selection of types of lamps and through colour temperature and
reflector performance was able to create and sustain the environment for animal and plant life
to ensure growth and comfort.
MOSES Mabhida STADIUM
The stadium, with its various lighting systems i.e. Field lighting and other Utility lighting,
presented quite a challenge. Our focus was the Utility lighting. On this we worked closely with
Conceptlicht – Mr. Angerer from Germany. A concept of lighting of the stadium structure was
developed.
Instead of floodlighting the structure from the outside to enhance the architecture, the
principal of lighting from the inside-outwards was developed revealing the crisp clear lines of
the superstructure.
Our involvement included the Arch-lighting using LED’s with digital control, the concourse
lighting and the upper-membrane lighting.
KING SHAKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Our work package included the Primary and Alternative power supply’s at 11kV, the Airport
11kV distribution, the Control Tower with its dual redundancy supply’s, the Precinct road
lighting, the Apron lighting and power supplies, the Urban fabric landscape lighting.
