Dig This!Having obtained permission from the Diocese Church Authority, Kirkby Great Broughton and Ingleby Greenhow Local History Group have undertaken a dig in the Graveyard at Kirkby. This seems to confirm that the original Saxon Church wall base is still in position. The trench will be left open for a couple of weeks so that people can see the result. Please take care not to fall in! The area is to the North of the Churchyard not far from the ancient weathered effigies.

GREAT AND LITTLE BROUGHTON PARISH COUNCIL

The Ings Lane Gypsy Site Public Inquiry starts on Tuesday 25th September at 10am and is scheduled to last two days.

Unfortunately, in spite of representations by the Parish Council and William Hague MP the District Council has decided it will be held at the District Council Offices in Northallerton rather than in our Village Hall.

The District Council have, however, appointed a barrister, Giles Cannock, to present the case against planning permission being granted.

It is important that the Inspector is aware of the overwhelming opposition from local residents. It would be helpful if as many residents as possible attend the Inquiry.

Further details will be on the Parish Council new website at www.greatbroughton.org.uk

A number of residents already receive emails from the Parish Council about this development. If you would like to receive these over the coming weeks please email

[email protected] with “Gypsy Site, Ings Lane” as the subject.

Kirkby and Great Broughton School Governors and staff welcome back our pupils and especially our new starters on Wednesday 5th September when the Autumn term begins.

The school can earn cash back from printer cartridges, mobiles, CD’s and DVD’s. If you have any lying around at home please donate them to school. We are also collecting many school token schemes including Tesco and Sainsbury's, more details on the school website. A reminder that if you want to keep in touch with what's happening in school our website address is www.kirkbyandgreatbroughtonschool.ik.org.

Christian Aid

Thanks to everyone who attended the Tea on the Lawn in July.

We raised £795.00 an amazing amount to have raised at one event. Thanks also to everyone who helped, those who donated cakes or money and especially to Anne and David Thompson for all the hard work in getting their garden to look so perfect on the day. The money has been earmarked for a special Christian Aid project aimed to stop malaria. Volunteers are being trained and equipped in malaria control and the sum raised will train and equip "one and a half " volunteers.
