Carmel Convent is an all - girls, English Medium unaided Catholic Minority Institution which has

120 seats at the LKG level. As such the norms of the minority institution are applicable in the

admission process. The school imparts education to the Christian community around and extends

its service to the members of other communities to the extent possible.

Application forms will be available from 25th November to 10th December, 2013 on the

school website – www.carmelconvent.org. Kindly note no forms will be available at the

school. There are FIVE pages in the form. The complete form must be downloaded and duly

filled.

Disclaimer: The school will not be held liable in case there are any server/internet

problems resulting in an inability to access/print the form.

Eligibility: Only girls born between April 01, 2009 to March 31, 2010 are eligible.

Others need not apply.

There will be no screening of the children or their parents.

Duly filled completed application Forms along with the attested photocopies of relevant

documents are to be submitted at the school from December 9, 2013 to December 19, 2013

inclusive of both days. (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays) between 3.00pm and

4.00pm. No application forms will be accepted after 4pm on 19th December 2013 under any

circumstances. Kindly note: Owing to the school already having certain important function

planned earlier the above dates have been finalized after discussion with the education

department (U.T.) Chandigarh.

Preference will be given to Christians, Siblings, wards of Alumni, Management and wards of

Staff. Conditions apply. Kindly Note: Preference does not guarantee admission.

With the firm belief that children should not be exposed to the stress of long journeys, the school

will only consider those children eligible for admission who are living within the Municipal City

limits of the tri-city area Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. The only exceptions will be

siblings.

The school is not responsible for providing transport facilities. However, there are a few private

contractors plying buses for the school under an agreement with the school. Students may avail

of this, seats permitting. Parent are advice to take admission in schools near their residence.

Selection for free and open seats, if available, after allocation of other seats, will be made by

draw of lots on 15th January, 2014 at 3.00 pm at the School premises.

SC Judgement : The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has held in the case of Society for Unaided

Private Schools of Rajasthan v/s. U.O.I. & others Writ Petition © No.95 of 2010, that the

provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education, Act 2009 (RTE) shall not

apply to Unaided Minority Educational Institutions. The National Commission for Minority

Educational Institutions, Government of India, New Delhi has declared Carmel Convent School,

managed by the Congregation of The Apostolic Carmel Sisters in India to be a Minority

Educational Institutions within the meaning of Section 2(g) of the National Commission for

Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004 (‘NCMEI Act’). Carmel Convent School Sector 9B,

Chandigarh , therefore being a certified Christian Minority , Unaided Educational Institution does

not Reserve 25% seats for the E.W.S (Economically Weaker Sections) as mandated in the right

of children to free and Compulsory Education, Act 2009.

Being a Christian Minority Educational Institution and in imitation of Jesus who made a

preferential option for the poorest of the poor of society, the school has independently been

educating children from the E.W.S. since 1959. Kindly note: This is an entirely voluntary exercise

as the school being a Christian Minority, Private, Unaided school does not come under the purview

of the RTE in the matter of 25% reservation for the seats for E.W.S.

Only one application form per child is to be submitted. In the event of it being discovered that

more than one application has been submitted for a child, all such forms will stand rejected and

the candidate disqualified and not be considered for the Draw of Lots.

At the time of submission of forms:

a) At the time of submission of forms, a sum of Rs.50/- is to be deposited with each

downloaded form.

b) Kindly bring along an Original Date of Birth Certificate for verification purpose. The

same will be returned immediately.

c) There will be preliminary examination of the forms. All forms found incomplete/ with

documents missing/unattested/ with incorrect information will not be accepted.

d) The accepted forms will, thereafter, be subjected to further detailed scrutiny after which

final selection of eligible candidates will be done.

The Final list of eligible candidates for the draw of lots will be put up on the website

www.carmelconvent.org on 14-01-2014.

Please ensure that the acknowledgement slip that will be given to you, is retained and

produced whenever you come to the school regarding all future dealings pertaining to

admissions.

I. Birth certificate : (Any one of the following)

V. Siblings in School: Birth certificate of sibling with parents’ names clearly indicated.

VI. Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe/Other Backward Class:

VII. Children who are differently abled and can be mainstreamed: Authenticated documents

VIII. Single Parents: Suitable supporting documentation indicating custody of the child by the

IX. Recent passport size photograph of the child (not more than 1 month old) with the

Kindly read the instructions carefully before you submit the application form:

1. SC Judgement: The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has held in the case of Society for Unaided Private Schools of Rajasthan v/s. U.O.I. & others Writ Petition

Educational Institutions. The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, Government of India, New Delhi has declared Carmel Convent

School and the other educational institutions run and maintained by the Congregation of the Apostolic Carmel in India are Minority Educational

Institutions within the meaning of Section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004 (‘NCMEI Act’). Carmel

Convent School Sector 9B, Chandigarh, therefore being a certified Christian Minority, Unaided Educational Institution is not governed by the provisions

of RTE.

2. There are 5 printed pages in the form. Kindly ensure you have downloaded all the pages.

3. Only those girls born between 1st April, 2009 and 31st March 2010 will be eligible for LKG admission for the academic year 2014-15. If your child is not within

the age limit specified, she will NOT be considered for admission.

4. There will be no screening of the children or their parents.

5. Selection for free and open seats available will be made by draw of lots on 15th Jan. 2014 at 3.00 p.m. at the school premises. Only parents or their

representatives (ONE ONLY), CARRYING THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT SLIP will be permitted to attend the draw of lots. Please do not bring

children along.

6. Filled in application forms along with attested photocopies of relevant documents will be accepted between 3.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. from 9th Dec. to 19th Dec.

2013, inclusive of both days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays & holidays). No form will be accepted under any circumstance after 19th December, 2013, 4.00

p.m. Kindly note: Owing to the school already having certain important functions planned earlier, the above dates have been finalized after discussion with the

education department (U.T) Chandigarh.

7. Incomplete forms/those filled with incorrect information/unattested forms or forms without all the required documents, will NOT be considered for

draw of lots/admission.

8. No enquiries will be entertained at the reception counter at the time of submission of forms.

9. If the names and surnames given in the application form do not match with the birth certificate of the child, the application form will be considered incomplete

and will NOT be considered for admission.

10. No alteration will be permitted in the application form once the same has been submitted. Hence you are strongly advised, if you so desire,

that the necessary rectifications like addition/deletion of the name/surname/parent’s name/s is done legally from the Issuing Authority before submission of the Application form.

11. In case it comes to the knowledge of the management, at any point that the information furnished is incorrect or wrong, the admission will stand cancelled without

having any right to claim the refund of the fee paid.

12. Application/draw of lots does not guarantee admission. The admission process will be considered complete only on completion of all formalities of admission

and payment of fees within the stipulated time.

13. Both parents must be present with the child on the day of admission as the signatures of both are imperative.

14. Originals of all documents must be produced at the time of admission, to permit verification. In case, on verification, any document is found to be fabricated,

forged or tampered with, the management reserves the right to cancel the admission.

15. Please ensure that the acknowledgement slip that will be given to you, is retained and produced whenever you come to the school regarding all future

dealings pertaining to admissions.

16. Please note: The school does not take responsibility for providing transport facilities for the children. Parents are responsible for the same. However, there are a

few private contractors plying buses for the school under an agreement with the school. Students may avail of this, seats permitting. Parents are advised to take

admission in schools near to their residence. It will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to drop and collect the child from the specified bus-stop.

17. The school being a minority institution reserves its Constitutional Right to give preference to children from the Christian Community. Preference will also be

given to Siblings. Wards of Alumni, Management and Wards of Staff. As regards the wards of Alumni, preference will be given to those Alumni who have been

active members of CESA for a minimum of 5 years and who have been supportive of the school. Conditions apply.
