Mission:

With Flower Mound constantly growing, it is more important than ever that we keep our town clean and litter free. Today we are learning that our environmental resources are limited and quite sensitive to our actions. In order to make sure that future generations will not experience a worse environment, we need to be aware of the ideals and requirements of sustainability. With the support of our board members, sponsors, and dedicated volunteers we hope to continue educating and practicing environmental sustainability.

Clean Cleanups are a major part of KFMB. Through our ongoing monthly cleanups and our two large scale annual cleanups, we strive to keep Flower Mound a litter free community.

KFMB supports community groups in completing cleanups by, identifying areas of need within our town, providing cleanup supplies, and coordinating trash collection.

We had great success this year in our cleanups, almost doubling the amount of trash picked up in 2013. This year KFMB collected a total number of 1016 bags of trash, out of which 406 were recycled.

+ Educate Keep Flower Mound Beautiful continues to promote environmental education throughout Flower Mound Independent School District. We were able to visit two elementary schools this year to encourage recycling and keeping unnecessary trash out of our landfill. We also offer a contest to design the t-shirt for our Spring Trash Off each year. This year’s winner was Isabelle Boon!

Lend A Hand KFMB, with assistance from the town and community through volunteering and sponsorships, continued our Lend -A- Hand program to help homeowners that are unable to take care of repairs of their home due to age, illness, or loss of income and are in threat of code enforcement citations and fines.  The program includes a one weekend event where we gather as many volunteers as possible and choose one neighborhood, at a time, to complete repairs such as painting, fence, siding, and wood rot repairs and landscape maintenance. Keller Williams joined us this year by choosing one of our homes as their Red Day project. Home Depot has also been extremely generous with their contribution of supplies and labor towards many of our homes. KFMB with the help of our wonderful sponsors and volunteers were able to work on a total of eight homes this year. KFMB has also partnered with Rain Water Solutions to provide deserving homes a way to recycle rain water. Currently we have a total of 20 rain barrels waiting to be given away.

Our Projects: We had a variety of tasks

and projects set for us this year. Two fences were

rebuilt and stained. Most houses had extensive yard work done to the

exterior, some homes also received native plants.

Siding repair and painting was also done on

three homes.

KFMB with the help of our outstanding volunteers have put in over 900 hours of work into our Lend-A-Hand homes this year.

KFMB had 291 volunteers at our Spring Cleanup this year. Collecting a total of 215 bags of trash, 73 of which were recycled. After our cleanup Keep Flower Mound Healthy hosts a variety of local businesses who promote health and well being either through the environment or body, at our Environmental / Health Fair. Our booths range from chiropractic services to free range chicken raising. The fair is a great way for all ages to learn about the businesses in our area that promote healthy living, through giveaways, prizes, and free food. During our spring event we are also joined by the Native Plant Society of North Texas. Each year they provide an opportunity for North Texas residents to purchase and learn about native plants.

Fall Trash Bash With 365 volunteers we were able to collect a total of 234 bags of trash, with the recyclable amount being 103 bags. This year in addition to our Environmental / Health Fair, Keep Flower Mound Healthy partnered with the Flower Mound Police and Fire Departments in our very first “First Responder’s Face Off- Obstacle Course.” Fair attendees were able to see Police and Fire Departments face off in a rigorous obstacle course, a true test of endurance and agility. The obstacle course promoted the importance of staying healthy and active by exercising each day. Our fair also included a Blood Drive hosted by Carter Blood Care. Fourteen donors gave the gift of life through a blood donation. KFMB would like to extend their appreciation to all who took the time to donate blood.

+ Rain Barrels KFMB partnered with Rain Water Solutions to provide Flower Mound residents the a chance to recycle their rain water. The Ivy is a 50 gallon rain barrel that is made in the USA and of 50 % recyclable materials. We hope to promote rain water harvesting throughout our town. A small portion of each rain barrel sale went to our Lend A Hand program.

Keep Flower Mound Healthy KFMH is a subcommittee of KFMB, with the main objective being: Improve the health of Flower Mound residents by promoting effective, livable improvements in nutrition, fitness, and life balance. KFMH hopes to extend its reach next year to elementary schools in Flower Mound. KFMH believes that healthy habits formed while young will develop into a healthy lifestyle for years to come.
