 CARE OF FRESH CUT

LAVENDER

Dry in Vase

Fresh cut lavender has a wonderful sweet smell, but will not last long if kept in water. Instead of putting the bunch in water, it can be placed in a vase without water to dry. Some of the lavender will drop buds and may wilt; this is ok. If you would like the stems straight rather than droopy; simply hang to dry (See Dried Lavender).

In Water

If you would like to enjoy your fresh cut lavender bunch in water, place the bunch in water and change the water daily since the water gets pretty smelly if left unchanged. Stripping the leaves from the stems before placing the bunch in water may help to extend the life of the bunch as the stems will turn brown and mold the longer the bunch is left in water. Depending upon when the lavender was cut, after about three to five days, the bunch may start to dry out and drop flowers.

Dry After in Water

If you would like to dry the lavender after it has been in water, do not wait too long. Strip the leaves from the stems before putting the bunch in a few inches of water. After a few days, remove the lavender bunch from the water, snip off the stems above the waterline and any brown/molding parts, and hang to dry (See Dried Lavender).
