Navy Pier

Jutting 3,000 feet into Lake Michigan, NAVY PIER is where Chicagoans and visitors alike

come together to experience the beauty and the excitement of Illinois’ top tourist attraction.

Completed in 1916 as Municipal Pier, the facility combined commercial shipping alongside a

public entertainment area. In 1927, the pier was renamed Navy Pier as a tribute to the Navy

soldiers who served in World War I. From 1942-1945, the pier was used to train Navy pilots.

In 1995, Navy Pier officially reopened as it is today, a 50-acre playground including, rides,

museums, shops, restaurants and almost a dozen sightseeing boats!

Highlights include the colossal IMAX Theater & hands-on fun at the Chicago Children’s

Museum. See Shrek the Musical at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater or the acrobats in Cirque

Shanghai Dragon’s Thunder. Grab a bite to eat at Billy Goat Tavern or Harry Caray’s Tavern.

Be sure to stop by on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the FREE Fireworks Display!

The Loop

Known as one of the most iconic parts of the city, the LOOP is defined as the area inside the

elevated “L” trains. It is an entertaining section of Chicago filled with retail stores, restaurants, and

festivals. One of the many tourist attractions is Millennium Park, notorious for its sculpture, “Cloud

Gate,” affectionately known as “The Bean.” Broadway in Chicago offers terrific seats to the most

exciting shows in Chicago’s Downtown Theater District. The Chicago Theatre, another performing

arts venue, holds a variety of events including standup comedy, jazz, and rock concerts. Some of

the best shopping in the Loop is located on State Street. Block Thirty Seven, Shops on State

features contemporary fashion and cafes. See the sparkling Jewelers Row, located on Wabash Ave.

between Washington and Monroe, spanning two blocks with jewelers from all over the world.

Hungry yet? Visit one of Chicago’s oldest Italian restaurants. With three eateries in one historic

building, the Italian Village includes The Village, La Cantina Chophouse, and Vivere.
