Editing

• This depends on which genre of music video you are doing.

For example if you were to do a Pop Video like Madonna’s Ray of Light, the editing will have to be fast!

But if you was to a music video of music like ‘Coldplay- Scientist’ the editing will have to balance. From normal speed to slow editing.

Dancing/ Choreography

• Not all music videos include dancing, this will probably depend in what your idea is. There are music videos that has no dancing at all. For example ‘The Verve’s Bittersweet’ is just about a guy walking and singing.

Lip-Syncing

• Again you have the choice! Lip-syncing is very important in a music video if you want your actor to do singing and it also has to be accurate however you can also write lyrics of a card and just keep changing while being at the same position however it has to be interesting!

Props & Settings

• Props and settings are also an essential part in a music video. You have to choose the right costume and necessary props that goes with your chosen genre of music.

Actors!

• Most of the time on a music video, the main focus is the actor/artist. Everyone concentrates on their performance and expression therefore it has to be perfect! From lip-syncing to facial expressions to body language, everything must be precise.

• One mistake can ruin the whole music video!

Mise-en-Scene

• The Mise en Scene has to be taken care of as well as it plays a vital part, to be able to send the message to the audience and get them to be involved everything has to be just accurate. For example if you have a slow romantic song then with a fast choreography, dark colors, fast edits and cuts it will all look a mess!
