AT&T Performing Arts CenterThe AT&T Performing Arts Center, a new multi-venue Center for music, opera, theatre and dance will open completing the 25-year vision of the Dallas Arts District. The Center will provide multi-state-of-the-art facilities woven together by an urban park covering more than ten acres to create a dynamic cultural destination that will be unparalleled in the world. The Center will feature the following:

The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, designed in a modern horseshoe configuration, will seat 2,200 (with capac-ity up to 2,300), designed by Foster + Partners.

The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre will serve as a gateway to the Dallas Arts District from the downtown Dallas business center and will seat 600, designed by REX/OMA, Joshua Prince-Ramus (partner in charge) and Rem Koolhaas.

The completely new Annette Strauss Artist Square will be the Center’s outdoor entertainment venue, designed by Foster + Partners.

The City Performance Hall will provide main stage produc-tion space for many of Dallas’ smaller performing arts organi-zations, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.


The Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park is a 10-acre urban park that will embrace and unify the venues of the AT&T Perform-ing Arts Center. Weaving together the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, Annette Strauss Artist Square and City Performance Hall, Sammons Park will be a lush urban oasis, a dynamic cultural destination in downtown Dallas. A dynamic setting for pre- and post-

performance events, Sammons Park will include canopies of mature trees, large expanses of grass and a series of gardens, reflecting pools, promenades and walkways.

Designed by landscape architect Michel Desvigne of Paris in collaboration with JJR of Chicago, Sammons Park is envisioned as one of the most exciting and dramatic new civic spaces in the region. As a new anchor for the Arts District, it will provide a new lively destination for families, event patrons, concertgoers, students and individuals who live and work throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Fair Park – site of the 1936 texas Centennial Exposition, in 1936, texas celebrated the 100th anniversary of the texas republic with a world’s fair in dallas. texas’ history, economy, flora and fauna were portrayed in the building, statues and murals designed for the event – all constructed in art deco style. Fair Park boasts the world’s largest collection of art deco exhibit buildings, art and sculpture. The Majestic Theater – the Majestic theatre opened april 11, 1921 during the Vaudeville era. over the years it hosted various acts such as houdini and bob hope. as movies pushed aside vaudeville, the Majestic became a center for premieres bringing such stars as Jimmy stewart, gregory Peck and John Wayne to dallas. live entertainment continued

Museum of Nature & Science – the Museum of Nature & science is the result of a 2006 merging, unlike any in the nation, of three cultural institutions – the dallas Museum of Natural history (est. 1936), the science Place (est. 1946) and the dallas Children’s Museum (est. 1995). these combinations have resulted in an exciting family destination, which is able to better serve the community. in its “Nature building” are housed more than 200,000 items in its collections comprised of artifacts, eco-facts, entomology, vertebrate

The Nasher Sculpture Center – Few institutions in the world are devoted to the exhibition, study, and preservation of modern sculpture. the Nasher sculpture Center, located in the dallas arts district and opened october 20, 2003, is one of those few. Conceived as an urban retreat for the enjoyment of modern art, the sculpture Center is the home of the renowned raymond and Patsy Nasher Collection of modern and contemporary sculpture. More than three hundred sculptures make up the


collection along with twentieth-century paintings and drawings which are rotated in thematic installations throughout the Center’s integrated indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces. the 55,000 ft. building, surrounded by a spacious garden created by Peter Walker, was designed by renzo Piano. special collections of works, drawn from other sources, will also be exhibited as part of the Center’s mission of examining the forces shaping sculpture since the late nineteenth century. a gift shop and cafe are on site. general admission is $10, seniors $7, students $5. “We’ve been in business almost 18 years and we try to develop the artists that we show in dallas and remain fresh and new as well, looking for new artists and styles,” said green. “one way we find new talent is the new texas talent show every summer, a juried exhibition texan artists who are young in age or young in experience.”

the two also travel extensively, searching out contemporary artists in other cities.

When Craighead green opens a show, it features artists in groups of three. the next show will feature the works of JP long, rich bowman, and Marci harnden from November 21-december 16.

“We do the best that we can in terms of trying to further their reputation and styles of work,” green said.
