SCoA distributes an entertaining and insightful bi-monthly newsletters to promote events and opportunities across the sector and showcase members’ best practices in meeting one of the settlement standards or another chosen theme. SCoA’s policy focus is on the nine priority areas set out in the National Settlement Services Outcome Standards as well as the general policy areas of the settlement sector (Australian Settlement Policy, International Settlement Policy and Migration Policy). SCoA regularly responds to current social issues in order to advocate on behalf of the sector, and collaborates with other organisations to support and contribute to developing common policies.

Government Inquiries and ConsultationsSCoA regularly makes written submissions, appears to give evidence to the Government in response to parliamentary or departmental inquiries, and directly liaise with multiple levels of government. Insightful, well-informed and practical contributions mean that the settlement sector is well represented in the Government’s decision making process. Each year, SCoA represents the settlement sector at important government, community and private sector events around Australia. SCoA’s CEO, Board members and staff takes these opportunities to promote the hard work of the sector, its important contribution to Australia’s multicultural success story, and to advocate for better policies and practices to improve settlement outcomes.
