Plan

Providing different lighting conditions allows different programs to be enhanced within the spaces. Rare books are housed in a small room that is illuminated by a layering of roof panels producing indirect light. The side opposite of the street is flooded with direct and indirect lightv for meditation. In between the books and meditation more intimate spaces are created with partial wall panels. The study of light, space, and scale were necessary in this project.

The retreat is connecting the visitors to the landscape by funneling them down the sunken parking and through the fingers of the complex. Resting on a hill the buildings have two indoor/outdoor layers tucking in to the landscape. Everything is framed and positioned towards the dense woods.

New York Housing3rd Year, Spring Semester, 12 Weeks

A deep facade system was created to separate the units from the chaotic streets. A light shelve above carries light deeper into the space while frosted glass provides soft light at your feet. Operable windows are place on the back side of every unit allowing for cross ventilation. The windows open up to a cavity placed in between the horizontal circulation.

The museum for industrial innovation provides a link between the architecture and the landscape of Columbus, Indiana. An existing post office on the edge of the city provides an excellent location for the link to be achieved. Preserving and highlighting the existing structure guides the circulation and lighting conditions in the museum. Innovative objects are highlighted by a lighter and brighter mass that rises out from the existing building. The new mass also provides views to the landscape and architecture that becomes more clear as you ascend the museum.
