kevin fitzke was born in Minnesota on september 27, 1982. as a child growing up in apple valley he was always found building something in his dad’s woodworking shop or admiring his Mom’s quilts. He has a passion for building every-thing from model boats, furniture, motorcycles, to a flying spoon and cherry sculpture. through his for-mal and informal studies at the art institutes international-Minnesota, he has gained a creative insight to abstract art and furniture design. His work has been featured in galleries all over Minneapolis and st. paul. some of his large scale paintings have represented target corporation, Metro Magazine, Hunter douglas, and published in the “international contemporary Masters, vol. iii”. kevin takes inspiration from many aspects and places in his life. He feels most comfortable listening to jazz and electronic music while de-veloping design concepts and ideas.

i.design is an idea and ex-ecution of conceptual thoughts about materials, structure, interiors and furnishings. the continuing pages of images and texts are to translate so-phisticated interpretations of different interiors, furnishings, art work and one of kind de-signs executed by kevin fitzke.

a variety of medium choices were determined to show the personality and aesthetic value that kevin brings to the design and art world. He is constantly aware of his es-sential surroundings, in which to be inspired for new solu-tions of design, art, concep-tual and everyday lifestyle.

exclusive

this section of exclusive design is to highlight my designs of small dis-placement motorcycles. Board track racer is a replica motorcycle from the racing days of the early 1900’s. it is built from a mountain bike frame, modified to carry a gas tank and small cubic centimeter motor. it rides on 26 inch wheels with only a coaster style pedal as the brake. it features an intentional patina and rusted finish to create the esthetic of a hundred year old motorcycle. Bobber bike is a one of kind design that i created from the ground up. it features my full fabricated frame, gas tank, and heavily modi-fied parts to make this low, fast motorcycle. it has a natural brushed metal finish with only a clear finish coat.

Hand Renderings

this section is to illustrate examples of my renderings that i have done by hand. i have included examples of both inte-rior and exterior structures that represent my technique and capabilities. My primary choice of medium is color pencil over canson paper. i prefer to use color pencils because of the blending and soft shadowing advantages that i feel are more necessary than pastel or even marker. i do not use the program adobe photoshop when ever possible to define my style of hand rendering.

exclusive

this section of exclusive design is to highlight my team for the Red Bull flugtag event that was held in st. paul Minnesota on July 24th 2010. flugtag meaning “flying day” in german is an event where 40 teams build human powered flying ma-chines and try to fly them off a thirty foot high pier. scoring criteria is based on each teams skit prior to launch, creativity, and distance of flight. i was a crew member and designer for “team spooners”. we designed and fabricated a flying spoon and cherry, a replica of the famous “spoon bridge and cherry” sculpture at the walker art center. our team man-aged to win second place for the entire event.

paintings

this section is to exemplify my original paintings. i am heav-ily influenced by the abstract and color field expressionist of the middle 20th century. some of my favorite artist are Jack-son pollock, franz kline, Barnett newman, Robert Mother-well and clyford still. for my work, i make large scale frames ranging from 3ft x 3ft to over 10ft in length. i use heavy weight canvas in which i apply acrylic/latex base paints with the use of cotton shop rags. i only use a brush to sign my name after completion. with the intention of gestalt charac-teristics, i rarely title my work; only distinguishing each piece by the number a camera assigns after capturing the image of the painting.

the bike shop is a conceptual repair and rest stop for cyclist and alike. the space both structurally and topographically will inhabit the location of Hiawatha ave. and lake street in downtown Minneapolis. the current location is an open field of grass land and small trees. these site components rest comfortably on a slight grade of earth that is joined with a swooping like bicycle path. this bike path is an extension of the greenway bicycle route that will circle this conceptual bike shop and rest area

the airport Bar is a lounge and rest space for travelers mov-ing through the las vegas, nevada commercial airport. the idea with this space is to capture the ambient light and sounds that one would normally realize with the las vegas nightlife. there is a bar area that has subtle curves and con-tours replicating the movement of people and transportation up and down the boulevard. the seating both in bar top stool and lounge seats are designed to accommodate one’s lug-gage and other personal belongings.

Residence

Residence is a structure that was developed on the idea of incorporating art deco elements but with the updates of pres-ent day technology. the space planning of the entire floor plan is to maximized and allow for multiple configurations. this allows the owner to entertain for numerous guests and to also allow for handicap accessible components and ne-cessities. there are walls that move on tracks and tables that slide underneath adjacent horizontal surfaces that help keeps the space ever changing.

artgallery

the art gallery is a re-model and restoration project that takes place in the old armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. the area in which the gallery will reside is a four level, front of house project that will exhibit contemporary two dimen-sional, three dimensional and performance art. the idea with this gallery is to create a resonating experience that will en-hance the viewers perception of the art. the placement of the art is designed to draw a focal point for the eye by creating wall and intersections of structural elements gracefully and functionally.
