Community safety - Funding

• In 2013 Gannawarra Shire Council received funding from Dept of Justice – Public Safety Infrastructure fund

• The funded project centred on the redevelopment of the Kerang Skate Park –Atkinson Park Kerang

• This project aimed to provide a focus for youth activity and engagement by building ‘ownership’ of a key civic space and activating the surrounding public realm, thereby securing the area and reducing opportunities for anti-social behaviour or opportunistic crime

Design:

- Focus on community safety, natural surveillance, active frontages, integration to other amenity of the park

- Engaging with young people in development and design was key to ensure ownership and a sense of pride over the space
