THE KENYA VISION 2030 The Kenya Vision 2030 is the countrys longterm development blueprint which aims to create a globally competitive and prosperous country providing a high quality of life for all its citizens. It aspires to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing, middle income country by 2030. From a Great Past to a Greater Future 2

  • 6. VISION 2030 THE KENYA The Vision is being implemented through successive five year Medium Term Plans (MTP). The first MTP covers the period 20082012 and its implementation is ongoing. From a Great Past to a Greater Future 6

SOME NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS UNDER THE FIRST MTP C i i Constitution f of K Kenya, 2010 Three undersea Fibre Optic Cable which connect Kenya to the global fibre optic network and linked to 5,500 km of terrestrial fibre optic cables covering most parts of the country Increased government expenditure on development and modernization of infrastructureroads, energy, airports and ports From a Great Past to a Greater Future 7

SOME NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS UNDER THE FIRST MTP Th Fi i lS i d The Financial Services sector recovered from a low growth of 2.7 % in 2008 to record an average 8 % growth in the past 3 years (2009 and 2011). The transition rate from primary to secondary education increased from 64.1 % in 2008 to 73.3 % in 2011 Construction of an additional 124 youth polytechnics and equipping of 560 youth polytechnics with relevant tools and equipment From a Great Past to a Greater Future 8
  • 9. SOME NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS UNDER THE FIRST MTP S d ll i b h bli d Students enrollment in both public and private universities increased from 118,000 in 2008 to 198,000 in 2012, an increase of 68% in four years. From a Great Past to a Greater Future 9

SECOND KENYA VISION 2030 MEDIUM TERM PLAN: 2013 2013-2017 The 2nd MTP will incorporate the following: Ongoing key Vision 2030 Flagship projects Priorities arising from the Kenya Constitution, 2010 Enhancing the development of the countrys human resources Employment creation especially among the youth Increasing the share of exports to GDP especially manufactured exports From a Great Past to a Greater Future 10

SECOND MEDIUM TERM PLAN OF VISION 2030 : 2013- 2017 Increasing the share of power generated from d t ff ti green and more cost effective sources Increased investment in infrastructure under PPP arrangements Take due cognizance of the recent discovery of oil and other mineral resources in the country and will plan for investment in the requisite infrastructure to facilitate their exploitation. MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF THE VISION There has been remarkable success in implementation of the vision with all ministries and departments under performance contracts An IT based National Integrated Monitoring and Evaluation System (NIMES) is used to track progress in implementation of the vision Data from NIMES is used to produce Annual Progress Reports (APR) Todate three APRs have been published From a Great Past to a Greater Future 12
