ARCHITECTS The Kentucky Board of Architects and Certified Interior Designers licenses and regulates the profession of Architecture in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Unique among creative and artistic professions, the foremost purpose of any architect is to provide functional, healthful, safe, and pleasing shelter for human activity. Due to the degree of risk inherent in the design of structures, Architects require a significant amount of formal education. After obtaining a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited degree, aspiring architects must also complete a multi-year experience program and pass a comprehensive multi-division exam. After becoming Architects, they must maintain their license by certifying annually, they have met 12 continuing education units pertaining to the health, safety, and welfare of the public. For more information on Kentucky Licensed Architects, or to find a licensed Kentucky Architect, please visit our website at BOA.KY. Gov

DISCIPLINE

The Kentucky Board of Architects continues to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our Commonwealth by investigating complaints against licensed and unlicensed individuals, and retains the authority to make decisions of disciplinary action taken against Kentucky licensees. The Board may also refuse to issue, reissue, or renew a license or may issue a private or public reprimand or may probate, suspend, or revoke the license of any architect who is found in violation of a Kentucky Revised Statute or Administrative Regulation. Examples of violations include plan stamping, practicing without a license or offering to render certain services as described in the practice of architecture (KRS 323), unprofessional conduct, dishonest practice, and gross negligence.

CERTIFIED INTERIOR DESIGNERS The Kentucky Board of Architects and Certified Interior Designers regulates the certification of Interior Designers. The certification title requires a high level of competency in the area of interior design. To become a Certified Interior Designer (CID), an individual is required to have significant education and experience. They are also required to pass an arduous test. Certification fosters a public environment of enhanced knowledge regarding health, safety and welfare of the public by specifying that the certified individual be qualified to design public interior spaces. To maintain their certification, CID’s are mandated to take a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education to ensure they stay abreast of the newest and most relevant guidelines, regulations, codes, and best practices. When a CID is hired by the client or employer, they know the CID has verifiable knowledge, experience and skill.
