Last Monday 31.07.17 – Georgene McNeil
Dementia and Mental Health Support
Last Monday we were addressed by Georgene McNeil, a dementia specialist from Anglican Retirement Villages. She gave an amusing and thought provoking insight into an affliction that is the second biggest killer of Australians. Georgene is highly qualified in her field and is obviously passionate about her work, giving of her time at the end of her day before travelling home to Randwick. For this we are grateful. Unfortunately, the statistics she gave us are cause for concern as one in four of us will be affected once we reach seventy. There are some things we can do to slow dementia down - SUGAR is out so Allegro can stop serving sweets - margarine is also out and EXERCISE is in. One positive is that we're allowed to have a few boyfriends/girlfriends when we are diagnosed. Dennis

President’s Report
Fellows,
What an informative talk Georgian gave on
Dementia/Alzheimer last night. I found it hard to
believe that there are 70% of people in ARV
retirement Villages who have one of the
diseases. Frightening!
It was great to see our AG Robert come along to our meeting and see how we run it and
good to see a few partners coming along. Thankyou
OBF is getting near so please all team leaders keep your finger on the pulse with your
portfolio and if you run into trouble shout out early to Dennis or myself for help.
‘Who was in my lounge room?’
Clue - Aussie, Married, live on Central Coast, ??????????????????’”
Well done Jim Walley for becoming a Centurian.
By next meeting the Kindy Fete will be over so thank you to all those that gave a little of
their time to help set up the park tents last Saturday.
Some good news, Vicki’s Dad came home from hospital on Tuesday to their new Unit at the
Ponds so with a bit of luck we will be back to normal again soon after 6 weeks of turmoil.
Thanks to all the directors for their updates. Mike and Dennis, we are excited with this
Wellington School breakfast project, so keep us informed weekly please.

Books for PNG School Libraries
On Tuesday morning Jim Walley picked up Lesley Freeman’s Extrail 4wheel drive and joined Georg Haltmeier and I and we drove to Wylds Road, Glenori and picked up 90 boxes of books which were donated by Galston Rotary Club. We managed to fit all the boxes into two cars and a trailer.
As you can see from the picture we have now enough boxes of books to fit into a 20f container. I still have books to be sorted and packed before I leave for Europe. I will be away from Sunday 13th of August and return on Friday the 1st of September. Lesley has volunteered to do the Klarion while I am away.

Dear "ALL" who assisted re my request for books for PNG, Your response was overwhelming! In the end we took two trailer/car loads to Kenthurst where they will be stored and then sent by container to PNG in the coming months. Karo (who is in the picture) will be accompanying the container and will see to the distribution to the 21 libraries which have been built by Digicel PNG. The quality of the books and their packing was wonderful and Karo was also delighted with the many teachers’ resources that were included. My huge thanks to you all for "Making a Difference" (our Rotary motto for this year) to the lives of the children of PNG. I am always happy to collect books when you have a surplus in the future. Kind Regards Monica Hart International Director Rotary Club of Erina
