About Kent Hindu TemplePt. Rishikesh Tiwari

Sanatan Dharma Temple and Cultural Center (SDTCC), is a non-profit organization formed in 2002 to meet the community’s growing need for a religious, spiritual, and cultural center in South King County. The temple relocated from Maple Valley to its current location in Kent in May 2013 and is conveniently connected with Highway 167. The temple building has a lot size of 40,075 sqft with a main floor of 10,000 sqft and upper floor of 5,000 sqft with adequate parking. The temple is also known as Kent Hindu Temple (KHT).PanditRishikesh Tiwari is the full-time priest serv-ing the spiritual needs of the temple devotees.

ABOUT TEMPLE

SDTCC is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization (UBI #: 602 147 373) in the State of Washington. All donations are tax deductible. The organization is managed by a Board of Directors duly elected by the members of the General Body of SDTCC, per its robust Constitution and By-Laws duly approved by the General Body. Our board has numerous active committees including a Ritual Committee, Cultural Committee, Kitchen Committee, Communication Committee, Construction and Maintenance Committee, Fund Raising Committee as well as an Audit Committee. ORGANIZATION

• To preserve and protect the rich Hindu Cultural Heritage in our present and future generations• To practice, promote and teach the Hindu religion and Hindu way of life• To provide social services to the community, including counseling and non-emergency medical services

The SDTCC currently conducts religious ceremonies on all major religious festivals like Lohri, MakarSankranti, SaraswatiPooja, MahaShivaratri, Holi, Navratras and DurgaMaa Puja, Hanuman Jayanti, NrisimhaJayanthi, Krishna Jan-mashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Rama Navami, Vijay Dashami, Diwali, TulsiVivah, and other Hindu festivals. It also organizes individually sponsored events like DurgaMaaJaagran, AkhandRamayanPaath, and Shri Satya Narayan Pooja etc. However, we still have a long way to go to fulfill the dream of a full scale temple and a center where we can perform religious, spiritual, social, cultural and educational activities.

VISION OF SDTCC

Currently, SDTCC has about 250 members, including Life ($2100) and Annual ($101) members. Our target for next twelve months is to register additional 250 members. Please become a member and support your temple.MEMBERSHIP

Full-size idols of Sri Radha-Krishna, Sri Durga Maata, and Sri Shiv Parivar were installed in April 2009 (5-days long Pran Pratishtha ceremony). Sri Satya Sai Baba was installed in June 2009. In November 2014, Sri Ram Parivar, Sri Ganesh, Sri Hanuman ji (Sindoorwale), Sri Baba Balak Nath, and Ladoo Gopal were installed after a 7-days long Pran Pratishtha ceremony.

All donations are tax-deductible on your tax-return. If you work for employers like Microsoft, Boeing, Chase Bank, Expedia, Real Networksor similar organizations, your donations to SDTCC towards cultural activities are matched by your employer. You may be able to set up for automatic donations through your payroll deductions if you work for corporations like Microsoft, AT & T, GE, and other employers with a similar program. DONATIONS

Pandit Tiwari ji came to Sanatan Dharma Temple and Cultural Center in November 2008 after serving for 6 years as principle priest at the Hindu temple of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI. He served at the Sindhi Merchant association Hindu temple in Singapore from 2000-2002. During his tenure from 1991 through 2000, he served as one of the five priests at the Prachin Ram Mandir in Greater Delhi area.

Pandit Tiwari ji’s educational background includes Acharya in 2000and Shastri in 1991, both from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi (UP). In addition, he attended 9-month long in-residence special training at Hindu Heritage Pratistan, a Modi Foundation Institution in Meerut, India, This training covered the fields of Samaskaras, Pooja, ShreemadBhagwadgeeta, Upanishads, Astrology, Palmistry, Yoga, Aasanaas, Praanaayaama, and Meditation. Panditji also teaches karmakand and rituals. Panditji has intensive knowledge and ample experience in Yagnyacharya, Archaka, Karamkanda, Akhanda Ramayana path, Durgapooja, Traditional Vedic wedding, Arya Vedic homam, BhagwatGeeta, ChandiYaag, house warming pooja, SatyanarayanPooja, Upanayanam, and more. He is also an expert in South Indian rituals including Archana, Abhishekam, and Vishnu Sahasranamam. He is fluent is Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Sindhi, English, and Nepali.

Kent Hindu TempleAmrut, Shubh and Labh are favorable Choghadiyas. Chal is an intermediate Choghadiya. Udveg, Rog and Kal are unfa-vorable Choghadiyas.There are seven types of Choghadiyas. Each day is divided into two time periods :- Day time - The period from sunrise to sunset

Night time - The period from sunset to sunrise. Each period contains eight Chaughadiyas. To calculate the duration of each Chaugh-

adiyas, divide the respective time periods by eight. Thus, in each period any one of the seven different types of Chaughadiyas will

occur twice. The sequence of daytime and night-timeChaughadiyas varies for each day. However, for each day, the sequence is

the same. That is, the sequence for Monday is different to that for Tuesday, which in turn is different to that for Wednesday, etc.

But, the sequence for each Monday is the same, as it is for each Tuesday, etc. Thus, to determine a good time to commence im-

portant works, check the time period between which such work can be initiated and select a favorable Choghadiya within that

specified time period. All Choghadiya starts with Sunrise timings. We have provided Sunrise times for Kent, WA on another page.

VISION OF SDTCC• To preserve and protect the rich Hindu Cultural & Heritage in our present and future generations.• To practice, promote, and teach the Sanatan Dharma and Hindu way of life.• To provide social services to the community including counseling and non-emergency medical servicesThe SDTCC currently conducts religious celebrations on all major religious festivals like Diwali, Durga Puja, Nrisimha Jayanthi, Krishna Jan-mashtami, Ganapati Mahotsav, Maha Shivaratri, Ram Navami and Navartri. It also organizes individually sponsored events like Durga Maa Jaagran, Akhand Ramayan Paath, and Shri Satyanarayan Pooja/Katha etc.

Donation appealIn order to successfully sustain our mission of preserving, protecting and promoting Hindu culture & the Sanatan Dharma, the temple moved from a location with several limitations in Maple Valley to a location more centrally located in Kent in 2013. The new location has a building with more 15000 sq. feet of space, which includes a bigger prayer hall which can accommodate lot more number of devotees; a fully equipped indoor kitchen and mahaprasadam serving/eating areas; larger parking lot; and better access to various bus routes and major highways. There is a lot of space, which is currently being used as such but needs to be renovated in the future, for various social and cultural activities like Clas-sical Dancing, music lessons, language education, yoga, and spiritual learning development activities. This kind of a center is required to firmly ground ourselves and our future generations in Hindu values which are very easy to loose track of in this fast paced materialistic world. Our temple is a place, which stands as a lighthouse showing us the path to the Hindu way of life. Having said that, it is our moral and social responsibility to extend our full support to those who have already taken the “sankalp” to uphold these values. We request everyone to donate generously to the Temple Building Fund, which will help us to pay off our current mortgage loan of $450,000. Paying off the mortgage will help take the temple to the next level, which will lead to improvements, which can be enjoyed by all devotees in the coming years. This is your temple so please contribute with “Tan, Man and Dhan” to fulfill your “samaj rin”. Lets make a resolu-tion to achieve the goal of paying off the mortgage in the year 2015. No amount is too small. Please lets come together as a community and pay off the mortgage. When we are financially stable, growth in all other aspects is possible and can herald exciting changes.
