“We’ve been here in Kenmare for over 27 years now” saysDerry Murphy, the owner of Murphy’s Super Valu.

We employ 50 staff directly in the Super Valu store and in2007 built the Kenmare Shopping Centre Complex.

This has helped to create a further 30 jobs for Kenmare through start up businesses.

Murphy’s Super Valu, Kenmare

We believe in Local

When asked about the importance of choosing to shop inlocally owned and managed business Derry had this to say.“We are not like our international competitors we supportour local economy through sponsorship, jobs and services. You must look at the bigger picture, we are in touch withthe community we live here and raise our families here.”Every euro spent in Super valu does more to help the localeconomy. It helps to pay our staff who in turn spend itlocally in pubs, restaurants and using local services. The

discounters actually take money out of the localeconomy. We believe in helping our customers savemoney on their weekly shop. By shopping the low pricesin our Super Valu Range, buying the weekly offers andusing your Real Rewards you will save money. We useLocal where possible so you can trust our food. Recentfood scandals have proved that knowing where yourfood comes from matters. Can you trust the others. Whenyou compare us to the discounters we simply offer more.

At the end of the day do we want to see our money flowing out of our locality and our country to foreign based

shareholders of large international corporations when we can choose local and benefit all in our community.

It’s Your Choice.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a collection of emotional symptoms, with or without physical symptoms, related to a woman’s menstrual cycle.PMS symptoms occur one to two weeks before your period starts. Thesymptoms go away after you start bleeding and they tend to reoccur in apredictable pattern every month. An estimated three of every four menstruating women experience some

form of premenstrual syndrome. For some people, PMS is just a monthlybother. For others, it may be so severe that it makes it hard to even getthrough the day. Still, you don’t have to let these problems control your life. Treatments

and lifestyle adjustments can help you reduce or manage the signs andsymptoms of premenstrual syndrome.PMS often includes emotional symptoms such as irritability, tension,

unhappiness, mood swings, sleeplessness and fatigue. Physical symptomsassociated with the menstrual cycle include bloating, abdominal cramps, constipation, swelling or tenderness in the breasts, cyclic acne and joint ormuscle pain. There is no test for PMS. The diagnosis of PMS is based on your

symptoms. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if your symptoms are due to ahormone imbalance. However, ovulation appears to trigger the symptoms. It is thought that women with PMS are more sensitive to the normal levelof progesterone. This hormone is passed into the bloodstream from theovaries after you ovulate. One effect of the over-sensitivity to progesterone seems to reduce thelevel of a brain chemical called serotonin. This may lead to symptoms andmay explain why medicines that increase the serotonin levels work inPMS.There are a number of things that can be done to relieve some of the

symptoms of PMS: Eat a balanced diet and make sure you are gettingenough calcium (1000 mg daily). Other supplements which may behelpful are Vitamin E (400 IU daily), Vitamin B6, Magnesium andEvening Primrose Oil.Many women find that regular exercise relieves some of the symptomscaused by PMS. Exercise is linked to the release of certain brainchemicals which are associated with a feeling of well-being. It also helpsto fight fluid retention.Apart from that make sure you are getting enough sleep. Some women may need medication to ease symptoms such as aches

and pains. For some, this may take the form of non-prescriptionpainkillers. Others may require prescription medication. While no singletreatment has been found to be successful, a combination approach, including many of the measures listed above may bring about a significantimprovement in symptoms. If you would like to know more about PMS and its treatment please

ring us on 064-6679880 or call into McSweeney Pharmacy Kenmare. Wewill be more than happy to answer all the queries you may have.

Government Minister Confirms that there Will be no Improvementin Broadband Services Job Creation in Rural Ireland Affected as a Result On the 1st of October in reply to myquestion on the governmentsbroadband plan for Kerry andnationally the Minister ofCommunication confirmed our fearthat "there will be no change to thelevel of service of speeds provided"by broadband providers. TheGovernment has failed to draw down funds from the EU InvestmentBank. I am currently working on a policy as Seanad Spokesperson onEnergy Communications and Natural Resources which aims to allowlocal communities access to infrastructure for fibre-optic broadband inthe same way as the group water schemes which has beenimplemented. The lack of Broadband is hurting job creation currently30% of business is conducted online yet only 10% of Irish Business areonline.

Families in Kerry To Pay Bill for Consultants For Irish Water The public are having to pick up IrishWater’s consultancy bill which hascaused considerable anger in homesthroughout Kerry and across the country. This week we finally had confirmationthat the massive consultancy bill paidduring the setting up of Irish Water will be borne by customers in Kerryand across the country. The manner in which the Government tried tohide the massive cost of private consultants and the way in which thescale of it was finally revealed did enormous damage to the credibilityof this quango. It is also disappointing that the Regulator and theGovernment did not answer questions before the parliament to explainthe dramatic reduction in free allowances for children, cut by a massive44% from 38,000 litres to 21,000 litres. The new water charges fordomestic users introduced from the 1st October 2014 have hit the mostvulnerable in society, families and the elderly. The first bill will beissued in January 2015 in respect of the period October–December2014. If you have any queries or questions please feel free to contactme.

Fire Services in Kerry under Review and threatEarlier this week I asked the Minister for the Environment, Communityand Local Government, to outline the changes to the Fire services inKerry and Nationwide. This has been brought to my attention by manypeople in Kerry and throughout the country. I will continue to work onthis. Minister Alan Kelly discussed the development of fire services in

Ireland using the standards and norms in the policy document KeepingCommunities Safe, KCS. Areas like ours are placed into varying levelsapplied by all fire services. This will mean fire station areas beinggraded across five bands from very high to very low-risk categories. The fire service including the numbers of fire appliance and fire crewsin an area, is a result of risk categorisation. The risk categorisationprocess has been completed for County Kerry and appropriate riskdesignations for each station area in the county have been determined. We await publication of the report.

How can I continue to give angling reports when the whole fishingseason for 2014, now thankfully put to rest until 2015, has from ananglers viewpoint been an unmitigated disaster. Salmon catches thelowest ever, sea trout the same, brown trout nearly as bad and the seafishing, though not as poor as the others, was still not up to the standardsof the years gone by. What is wrong we ask ourselves? Have we the worldas we knew it ruined? The World wildlife numbers have collapsed by50% since the year 2000. If true this is a shocking state of affairs. An oldwise American Indian chief once said that if all the bees die than so doesmankind. Well the bees are dying, no doubt you have noticed that thebumble bee is missing, as is the grasshopper (whose merry chirpinglivened up the summer meadows) the butterflies, moths and dragonfliesthat brought such colour and life to our countryside are in all seriousdecline... I could go on and on. People say re-stock, put in hatcheries thatwill increase fish numbers and of course it will, but if the insects andworms that the fish live on are not there, well the fish will die withhunger. Anglers spend hours of their lives communing with nature andnotice changes that would pass unnoticed by a layman. We are notoptimistic about the future, as the book said, nobody shouted stop. In thiscountry, which prides itself on its clean green image, there is no person inauthority looking after our environment. The EPA (EnvironmentalProtection Agency) does now and cannot look into the problems I havejust raised. Human beings have a habit of deliberately ignoring theobvious. Let me illustrate this by feeling you the story of Tim and Eileen, now gone hopefully to a better place, RIP. When they married Eileen, as anew young bride who adored the ground Tim walked on, asked would helike anything specially for Sunday’s dinner. Tim’s response was, ‘I lovedthe apple tart and custard my mother used to make, will you try your handat it?” ‘No sooner said than done. Eileen got all her ingredients together toproduce an apple tart and custard of Cordon Blue quality which sheproduced with a flourish as desert after the Sunday roast. When they had

finished the meal Eileen was waiting for Tim to compliment her culinaryefforts but nothing was forthcoming so she asked, ‘ Did you enjoy thedinner?’ ‘Yes,’ was his response. ‘And what about the dessert?’ ‘Well,’ hesaid, ‘The apple tart was fine but the custard was not as good as mymother used to make.’ Big mistake on Tims part. I neglected to tell youthat Eileen could be hot tempered. She sat for a few minutes in silence, then catching the saucepan of leftover custard, dumped its contents on topof his head, just at the same moment a loud kicking was heard from thefront door. Gathering herself, she left custard covered kitchen table andtook herself upstairs as the kicking at the door continued. Tim opened thefront door, standing outside was his friend and neighbour Con paying aSunday visit. Without comment Con looked his custard covered friend upand down, as a big blob of custard rolled down his forehand onto his noseand fell with a plop on Con’s bright polished shoe. Con looked again atthe blob on his Sunday going to mass shoes, then up again at the custardcovered head and said, ‘Aren’t we having great weather for this time ofyear Tim?’ They carried on a conversation in this vein for a while, Consaying, ‘Well I will be off so, I just wanted to check were you and themissus ok.’ ‘Not a worry in the world,’ said Tim as he bid him goodbye. We are all just like Con, we can see the condition of our environment butwe pretend that nothing is happening. Sometimes, as in Tims case, this isfor the best, who wants to make enemies over nothing, but we live in theworld for a very short time and we should look after it for futuregenerations to enjoy, or do we went them to inherit a wasteland of painand suffering, is that the future? I hope not. Kenmare Trout Anglers Club Competition results are as follows;Clonlee Autumn Cup Boat Fly Fishing 28/9/14; 1st Con O’Leary, 2nd andheaviest trout E.T. O’Sullivan, 3rd George Gaine. Glen and Uragh Shores Fly Fishing 12/10/14; 1st Con O’Leary, 2nd EricDukelow, 3rd E. T O’Sullivan draw. On October 5th the club had a great day up at Caha Lakes, the weatherwas woeful but the BBQ and fishing was great. A special thanks to Conand Timmie and their efforts for its success.

Kenmare Credit Union Ltd is open andlending!Whether borrowing for a car, Christmas, home improvementor education, talk to Kenmare Credit Union today.Autumn can be an expensive time for many as winter sets in. It's atime when we look forward and plan for Christmas, calculate thecosts of heating and/or decorating our homes and when we look toupgrade our cars. There are also expenses like House Insurance,Car Insurance and Health Insurance annual premiums. Almost allof us at some stage want (or need!) to get away from it all and goon a holiday break. Be it just for a few days, a week or a fortnight. For everyday loans that won't break your piggy bank KenmareCredit Union has launched its lending campaign for this autumn. There are no nasty surprises or additives like fees or charges incredit union loans. The interest you pay is the full cost of the loanso it is fully transparent. They are specially formulated with theirown insurance policy to provide life cover, subject to terms andconditions, on loans granted to members. This means eligiblemembers loans are insured in the event of death at no directadditional cost to the borrower. According to Eileen Dineen, Loans Officer, "When it comes toyour annual insurance (home/health/car etc) expenses you may betempted to pay these off on a payment plan offered to you directlyby the provider. But before you do why not check out the termsand conditions of the loan rate charged by your local credit union, you could find that a loan with us to pay for these expenses ismuch cheaper and you could make a tidy saving." As well as offering a standard personal loan rate to their members,Kenmare Credit Union also offers specialised rates for things likeback to school / student loans, car loans, home improvementloans, Winter Fuel, Christmas and more. Eileen continued, "Our Home Improvement Loan rate inparticular is very favourable at 9.38% APR*. Over the past yearsthe Home Improvement Loan facility has been growing inpopularity as it is not only good value but also very flexible.Looking at your finances honestly will help you highlight whereyour money is going and start you on the first steps of budgetingand managing your money more effectively. However, if you doneed to borrow Kenmare Credit Union is lending and open forbusiness. Our priority is to continue to provide credit for theeveryday things in life and we will endeavour to meet realisticmember requirements if at all possible." Report and pic Mary O’NeillPictured above is the little dog that was stranded on a ledge overlooking the sea atDirreenamacken west of Blackwater Bridge for four days. He was first spotted onThursday 25th of September and again on Friday by local fisherman Joe O'Sullivan. On Saturday 27th September the fishermen attempted to rescue him from

Coongar Lady (the mussle harvesting vessel). Fishermen Jerry Casey andStephen Casey tried to climb up the cliff but failed as it was difficult toreach the ledge. Kenmare Gardaí were contacted and the Sneem Fire Officer TadghMcCarthy contacted Danny Breen the Fishery Protection Officer to see could if hecould help. On Sunday afternoon Danny Breen along with fishermen Joe O'Sullivanand Jerry Casey made another rescue attempt and Danny Breen managed to capturethe little dog with a landing net after climbing up the cliff from the sea. He wastaken to KLAWS on Monday and aptly named Sailor by the staff of the VetinaryClinic. ‘Sailor’ was soon after reunited with his delighted owner.

Spirits were high last Wednesday evening at the Dromhall Hotel inKillarney when it was announced that Kenmare won the award under thecategory Community Spirit and Neighbourliness (Meitheal). This awardrecognises the dedication and commitment of all of the volunteers whomake wonderful things happen in the community, often with very limitedresources. Kenmare Chamber of Commerce & Tourism (KCCT) submitted theinitial application on behalf of the many volunteers in the town and itstated, “We are applying for the award on behalf of the wider community. It is through our extraordinary community spirit and collective action thatwe have achieved so much economically and socially for our area.” Kenmare was up against some very worthy competition includingPiarsaigh na Dromoda, Killarney, and the Croilar na Mistealach ResidentsCommittee, Tralee and the Kerry Hospice Foundation, Tralee. A cross section of our community represented Kenmare on the night byCarol Hillier (KCCT), Sandra Bias (Pink Ribbon), Raymond Ross(Chamber), Noel Crowley (Tidy Towns), Aidan Murnane (Sports),Siobhan Thoma (The Lace Centre), Tanya Gordon (Taobh Linn) andGordon Le Moignan (Kenmare Community Care) and Maureen Sullivan(KMEG).

Kenmare was also recognised for being nominated to represent Kerry atthe upcoming Pride of Place national awards that will take place in Ennison November 15th. Tanya and Gordon took to the stage to give acondensed version of their presentation that so impressed the Pride ofPlace judges when they visited Kenmare, as they offered a unique insightinto how all our community groups work in cooperation. The other groups were also honoured for the huge effort they put forward:Mithels/Boherbee Community Regeneration project; BallyduffCommunity of Excellence in Promoting Mental Health Awareness and AnBhainsearch Residents’ Association in Killorglin. To add to the excitement, Bonane Community Council won an award

under the category of Groups Supporting Environment/Eco & Heritage. They too won out against some very noble competitors including TheDaniel O’Connell Heritage Summer School in Derrynane, Valentia IslandDevelopment Company and Kerry Islamic Outreach Centre in Tralee.Congratulations to Kenmare and Bonane for winning in their respectivecategories. It is a testament to the sheer hard work being done at agrassroots level to keep our communities alive and vibrant. A huge thankyou to all of the volunteers, you have done us proud.

KMEG. What’s The Story?First of all, congratulations to all of our volunteers in Kenmarefor winning an award at the Kerry Community Awards this week. The huge effort and dedication of all the people who give theirtime and talent so willingly was recognised when Kenmare won inthe category of Community Spirit and Neighbourliness (Meitheal).Congratulations also to Bonane Community Council for winningunder the category of Groups Supporting Environment/Eco &Heritage. At the beginning of the month, KMEG was invited by RuralAlliance to attend a conference in Brittany, France. The missionof Rural Alliance (RA) is to foster cross-country alliances amongrural areas in North East Europe with a view to learning from eachabout how to sustain rural vibrancy. KMEG was part of a groupfrom Kerry that represented a broad range of tourism andcommunity interests in the county. The trip was organised by TheSouth Kerry Development Partnership, which is one of twelveEuropean partners under the alliance. As one of the partners,France hosted participants from Belgium, the UK, and TheNetherlands as well as Ireland and we were participated in a seriesof workshops and tours that highlighted what rural Brittany isdoing to sustain itself. It was interesting to note that rural areasshare common issues despite their location; lack of governmentfunding, isolation, the emigration of young people, and struggleswith transport and infrastructure. It was also apparent that a strongcommunity spirit is the driving force of progress. KMEG got thechance to introduce itself as a community initiative in front of aninternational group of like-minded people and to pitch itself as aproject worthy of Rural Alliance funding. Thank you to the SKDPfor such a great opportunity.A huge thank you to everyone who attended the brandingworkshop, Talk of the Town – what does Kenmare mean to you?in the Carnegie Arts Centre last month. The feedback received iscurrently being used to create a set of brand guidelines forKenmare and to create the content for our new website which iscurrently being written. We have identified a web developer inCork who will help to build a visitor-driven and easy to usewebsite and we will be in touch with KMEG members in duecourse to discuss their presence on the site. Festival season in Kenmare kicks off with Halloween Howl fromOctober 25th – 31st and the programme is full of brilliant things todo for adults and children alike. Please come along and enjoywhat the hardworking Halloween committee, have put together foryour enjoyment. Happy Halloween! Maureen SullivanMarketing Manager, KMEG: email: [email protected]

Water Metres. I have been asked by a lot of people that is there any grantor assistance in place for people who want to install an individual watermetre themselves if they are living in a private housing estate where onlyone metre is in place. The department of the envoiriment services division have informed methat there is no grant in place but that it is hoped that metres would be putIn place in all houses and that issues relating to private estates will besorted out in the near future.I believe that the government have dealt hopelessly with the whole issue

of water metres and I would again reiterate by objection to the fact thatthere is no allowance what so ever to allow for inability to pay. It is a factthat the water bills that are going to be coming to peoples homes are goingto be a lot larger than what originally expected.

New Farm Schemes. The Minister for Agriculture and food hasconfirmed that the draft of the Rural Development Program for 2014-2020contains the provision of a number of farm investment schemes includingpriorities such as: Dairy equipment, low carbon emissions spreadingequipment, animal welfare and farm safety equipment, pig and poultryinvestments in energy, water meters, and medicine dispensers, organiccapital investments, and a young farmer capital investment scheme. Theinvestment deals will subsequently be expanded to cover farm nutrientstorage and animal housing. The definitive list of investment itemseligible for support will be made available when the EU permission forthe program has been received and confirmed. The Minister wasanswering a question from T.D. Michael Healy-Rae who raised the matterin the Dail. The Kerry T.D. stated in response to this plan. ‘These supportsare welcomed and much needed by the farming community.’

Kenmare & District Garden ClubOn Thursday, 2nd October Tim Austen did a very clever thing, he led usup the garden path! He knew exactly what he was doing and we wentwillingly and learnt such a lot on the way. His talk was entitled The Pathto Bloom and at the end he showed us a fascinating video of all the hardwork and preparation that went in to his 2013 Bloom garden for which hejustly received not only a Gold medal but the People’s Award as well.Prior to this he stressed how paths can play such an important role in agarden not only to give access to various areas but to draw one’s eye andtantalisingly suggest there’s more to see just around the corner. They canbe all widths, colours and textures, straight and winding with secret waysoff the main path, practical and attractive. So if you thought gardeningwas just about plants then think again!!Next month at Gateway on Thursday, 6th November, 7.30 p.m. Mark

Collins from Dhu Varren Garden, Milltown will be speaking to us about‘Plants from around the World’ which sounds very interesting so hope tosee you there.

Experienced psychotherapist, Michele O’Brien has moved to newcounselling rooms located at ‘Stone Arch’, Munster and Leinster BankHouse on Shelburne Street, Kenmare. The former surgery of the late Dr.Denis O’Connor, has undergone a transformation. “My aim is to providea space and opportunity for you to work towards living in a moresatisfying and resourceful way and to facilitate a greater sense ofwellbeing,” Michele told The Kenmare News.Kenmare has been home to Michele for over 25 years. Originally hailing

from Yorkshire, she followed her parent’s example, when her Irish born fatherand country enthusiast mother ‘came home’ to settle in Kilgarvan.Michele completed her psychotherapy training in 2003 with the Dublin

Counselling and Therapy Centre www.dctc.ie, receiving accreditation in 2006with Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP)www.iahip.org . She worked as a counsellor in SouthWest Counselling Centreuntil 2008, moving then into private practice in Killarney, Kenmare andSneem.A particular element of Michele’s strengths lies in Clinical Supervision

offered to trainee and experienced therapists. With a Masters in SupervisoryPractice and as an accredited Supervisor, she provides supervisees with thespace to consider and discuss their work issues. She also offers supervision tothose working in the helping and caring professions - a reflective space tolook at the challenges of work and its impact on well- being. It is importantas an ongoing response to the prevention of compassion fatigue (burnout) andthe everyday stressors of frontline work. What is Psychotherapy and who is it for? Psychotherapy is a processallowing us to explore, understand and ease concerns and difficulties within aconfidential client/therapist relationship. It aims to provide the space andrelationship where people are helped to deal with problems more effectively.Psychotherapy can be helpful in dealing with the challenges of life and inparticular those suffering from personal, family and social distress; those incrisis or searching for meaning and purpose in life.Psychotherapy offers a space where difficult and sometimes painfulexperiences and emotions can be heard. Being heard can offer freedom fromlimiting beliefs and perceptions and open up new ways of relating to ourselvesand those around us. Being listened to in a compassionate manner allowsacceptance, facilitating change and transformation.“Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a deeper self- awareness andinsight which can help overcome adversity, resolve issues and build up ourown resources. This can result in a greater sense of wellbeing and improvequality of life. I create an opportunity for my clients to work towards living ina more fulfilling way.” Michele will extend a welcome to one and all at her Open Day, on Friday7th November between 2pm – 7pm. Call in to discuss Michele’sprofessional approach to helping her clients cope with the stresses of life;learn about upcoming workshops or simply enjoy a cup of tea!November workshops include;‘Meaningful and Mindful Living’ offering a contemplative approach to lifeas a resource for emotional well-being. A five week program on Tuesdaymornings.‘Approaching Work with Ease’ a series of 1 day workshops for those in thehelping and caring professions such as teachers, adult education facilitators, nurses, health care professions, community workers and anyone involved infrontline work.A further schedule of weekend workshops with an emphasis on motherhoodand womanhood will be announced in November. The year has flown by and the good weather inSeptember has delayed the onset of autumn andwinter but there is a change in the air now. Thenights are getting noticeably cooler and theleaves have started to cascade to the ground.Bound to happen sometime, but Christmas is nottoo far away and then the days will be gettinglonger again ! So, thank you September forbeing so good !There’s plenty to do out there in the garden overthe next few weeks so whenever there’s a nicebit of sunshine head out there and get the jobsdone before winter really arrives.

1. The LAWN has continued to grow wellinto the autumn and will still need cutting for thenext few weeks. Falling leaves will also needseeing to over the coming weeks as if they areallowed to settle for too long on the lawn theywill impair grass growth. Don’t cut as low as asummer cut and use the mower to collect all thefallen leaves at the same time. If your mowermulches everything you will have to rake off theleaves first. Autumn Lawn feed can be applied tohelp the grass stay green in the winter and willprevent moss from building up.2. It’s basically time to say Goodbye to yoursummer plants in window boxes, hangingbaskets and other patio containers. They havestruggled along after the long summer but needto go now. These containers can then bereplanted with some spring flowering bulbs atthe same time as making arrangements with

some autumn and winter flowering plants.Pansy, Viola, mini Cyclamen and Heathers willgive a splash of colour for the early winter.Berried plants like Solanum, Gaulthera andPernettya can be added to the arrangement for amid-winter seasonal look, and for a touch ofwinter greenery Holly, Ivy , Ozmanthus anddwarf conifers can be added to arrangements inlarger containers and barrels.3. SHRUB beds can be tidied up. Removefallen leaves that may be collecting in shelteredcorners of the garden, especially from undershrubs and flower beds. These decaying leaveswill provide a safe haven for overwintering slugsand bugs. By removing them you will bereducing the problems for next year. Pruning cantake place to make some of the shrubs look morepresentable but do not prune back, springflowering shrubs. If they are pruned now youwill be removing their flower buds for nextyear,. Prune these immediately after floweringnext April or May.4. ROSES could do with a light pruning totidy them up but a proper pruning should bedone in and around February. Again remove

fallen leaves from around the bases of thebushes for health and hygiene !5. TREES are holding on to their leaves alittle later this autumn and could get damaged byautumn gales so make sure younger trees arewell supported and remove any torn or damagedbranches if they occur.6. HERBACEOUS PERENNIALS arebeginning to look very tatty now and as thefrosts arrive you can start cutting these backdown to just above ground level and remove thedecaying leaves and stems. These plants will allsprout up again from soil level next spring.7. If you have any ALPINES in a rockgarden just make sure that these low growingplants don’t get smothered by fallen leaves.8. Fruit should all be harvested from thegarden by now but still too early for pruning.9. Try to keep the vegetable garden tidyduring the winter, removing unwantedvegetation when necessary. Covering the groundwith sea weed or rotted farm yard manure willhelp to keep winter weeds down as well asimproving the soil fertility and texture and willbe sufficiently rotted away for when the plantingseason comes around in the spring.10. And when you’ve got nothing else to dowhy not make a scarecrow for Halloween andfor the garden !.....there is a scarcrow makingworkshop in Willowfield Garden Centre on Sat25 th if anyone is interested just for theHoooowl of it !Happpy Gardening…hoe, hoe, hoe……

Inter Kenmare 3-2 Askeaton (Limerick)First match for our U/13's this season and it was abig one against Limerick side Askeaton. From thefirst whistle you could tell the lads were a bit rustyafter the summer break as they found it hard to getthe ball under control and they were caught nappingat the back after 10 minutes when the youngAskeaton striker finished well into the bottom cornerwhen Inter failed to clear the ball. It stayed 1-0 allthe way until the last 10 minutes when the matchsprung into life as Kaleb Patterson sent a ballforward and flicked on to Daniel Crowley whofinished nicely into the net. 2 minutes later Interwere awarded a free on the edge of the box and upstepped Colin Crowley who blasted the ball low intothe bottom corner. It just took Inter 2 more minutes

to find the net again when Cian Hanley foundhimself one on one and shot perfectly passed theAskeaton keeper. Inter then in dreamland werecaught at the back and had to hold on for a nervy 3minutes until the final whistle.SeniorDenny Division 2B Sunday 5th October. Inter Kenmare 'B' 3-3 Abhann LíWith no B team for a year it was nice to see our Bteam back in action. We started very strong and went1-0 up within 10 minutes. A lovely over the top ballfrom the kick-out of Ray O' Shea and Daniel. Taylorhit it with his right to set us on our way. Then aftersome great playwe were 2-0 up after Brian Clifford latched onto aball and put it past the keeper. Then came 10 minsof madness just before half time as Abhann Lí foughtback to level it 2-2 from two messy corners. We started strong again after the break and after 20mins we were back in front after a nice finish fromAlan Murphy-Reeves who is just back from injury. We thought we had it won with only a minute to gobut it wasn't to be, as Abhann Lí scored from a freekick just outside the box. We were all dissappointedbut i guess not bad for our first game back. Best forInter on the day were Daniel Taylor, MatthewMurnane,Tom P.O. and Paudie O' Sullivan. We have a nicemixture of youth & experience so thingsare looking very good for the future.Next game: 19th Oct @ 2.30 in KenmareCall up and support. SeniorDenny Premier B Sunday 5th October 2014.Killarney Celtic B 4-2 Inter KenmareInter A travelled to Killarney for their second game

of the season, on thefirst Sunday of October,to renew acquaintancewith Killarney Celtic B.They hadcomprehensibly beatenthe Killarney outfit intheir first game of theseason, 5-3 at InterKenmare Park. Interstarted brightly and JoshCrowley Hollandnarrowly failed to beatthe Killarney keeperafter an excellentthrough ball had brokenthe Celtic of-side trap.More chances were togo a begging as ShaneO'Sullivan, StephenO'Shea and ConnieCremin came close,Inter would later ruethese missedopportunities. As thegame settled Celtic, clearly able to field asignificantly strongerstarting eleven on homesoil, began to takecontrol and deservedly

went 2-nil up. This Inter team have tremendous character andbattled back well with Stephen O'Shea scoring forthe visitors to make it 2-1. However, despite someexcellent play Inter hadn't packed their scoring bootsand more chances were missed. Inter foundthemselves 4-1 down but still fought bravely and afight back, that had seemed on the cards whenKillian Harrington had netted for the visitors to makeit 4-2, failed to materialise. Despite the loss Inter cantake a lot of positives from this game and in defeatthere were a number of wholehearted, gutsy Interperformers. The panel was: Tom O'Sullivan, Matt CrowleyHolland, Donal O'Sullivan - Casey, Sean Murphy,Killian Harrington, Shannon Ryan, Connie Cremin,Stephen O'Shea, Derdie O'Sullivan-Casey, JoshCrowley Holland, Shane O'Sullivan, Mark Granville,Shane Dalton, Paudie O'Sullivan.Denny Premier B Sunday 12th October Inter Kenmare 4-3 MastergeehaOn a deceptively warm autumnal Sunday morning atInter Kenmare Park the residue of morning dew, which clung stubbornly to the pitch, offered a slickand lively playing surface that was reflected in thenature of this entertaining seven-goal thriller. Intersettled quickly and the resultant pressure on Geehaled to an excellent headed goal, direct from a corner,by the hard working Shane O’Sullivan. Mastergeehareacted well and a high tempo, absorbing gamebegan to unfold. Matthew Crowley Holland, in theright back berth, combined well with Derdie Caseyand Shannon Ryan before sending a nicely weightedpass down the right flank to Josh Crowley Hollandwho cut to the near post and floated a lovely crossover the despairing heads of the visitors defence tonone other than the rampaging Shane O’Sullivanwho volleyed the ball into the roof of the net. Stungby the setback Mastergeeha deservedly grabbed twogoals of their own despite some excellent defensivework from Shane Dalton and Donal Casey and thehalf finished two a piece.Again, Inter started the second half well culminatingin a fabulous, narrow angled finish from hat trickhero Shane O’Sullivan after incisive combinationplay from Josh Crowley Holland and ConnieCremin. Inter further strengthened their hold on thegame when the hardworking Connie Cremin drovethe ball home to make it 4-2. However, to their creditMastergeeha never wilted and before the refereeblew the final whistle on proceedings they hadbrought their tally to three goals to ensure a nervyending for Inter who were grateful to take all threepoints. The Inter panel was: Ray O’Shea, Matt CrowleyHolland, Donal O'Sullivan - Casey, Shane Dalton,Killian Harrington, Sean Murphy, Shannon Ryan,Derdie O'Sullivan-Casey, Josh Crowley Holland,Shane O'Sullivan, Connie Cremin, Tom O’Sullivan,Dean Cassidy, Paudie O'Sullivan. Results Corner.U12'sNewport Town 3-1 InterInter 10-1 Killarney Ath.U13's Inter 3-2 Askeaton U14'sInter 1-3 Caherdavin CelticBallyhar 1-1 InterU17's Inter 4-4 CastleislandSenior B's Inter 3-3 Abhann LíSenior A'sInter 5-3 Killarney Celtic BKillarney Celtic B 4-2 InterInter 4-3 Mastergeeha Follow us on Twitter @interkenmarefcand on Facebook Inter Kenmare.
