Using Neutral Grounding Resistors to Protect Equipment and Personnel from a Ground Fault

In this seminar, we'll discuss the advantage of using a Neutral Grounding Resistor to protect equipment and personnel from a ground fault, rather than having an ungrounded or solidly grounded system.

Hoffman9:00

The Importance of Thermal Management

Advancing technology is creating faster and more powerful electronic control devices. A large number of these devices are not hardened to environmental extremes and the need to protect them is real. With an increased awareness of temperature vs. reliability, the right solution to mitigate heat in these applications can be a challenge. This seminar will review the basic principles of cooling with a look at some applications, as well as readily available solutions to manage the effects of heat on electronic control equipment.

DimetixLaser-ViewTechnologies10:00

Non-Contact Monitoring of Distance, Angle, Rotation: Alternatives to Conventional Encoding Techniques

Displacement, along with angular and rotary position, are movements that are typically measured in machinery using conventional contact type sensors. This presentation will cover methods of sensing these parameters using non-contact devices, such as laser displacement sensors, MEMS type inclinometers, and hall effect magnetic encoders.

Mersen11:00

Achieving Higher Short Circuit Current Ratings for Industrial Control Panels

Articles 409.110 and 670.3 in the National Electrical Code® have required industrial control panels to be clearly marked with a Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR). New in 2017, NEC 409.22(b) now requires that the available short-circuit current at the control panel be identified with a label or other documentation. In order to comply with NEC 110.10 and 409.22(a), an industrial control panel must have an SCCR equal to or greater than the available short-circuit current of the system where the panel is to be installed. This seminar will review SCCR basics, explain how the UL 508A Supplement SB is used to determine panel SCCR and show how type-tested components and current-limiting fuses can be used to increase panel SCCR to acceptable levels.

Mersen12:00

Achieving Maximum Benefits with a Fuse Protected Low Voltage Motor Control Center

Selection of the short circuit protection for your MCC is critical for worker safety and maintaining continuity of power to critical loads. Since workers frequently interact with the MCC, consideration should be given to minimizing the exposure of all of these workers to the hazards of arc flash. Short circuit protection should also be selected so that only the protective device for the circuit involved in the short circuit operates leaving power to the remaining circuits. Since properly applied current limiting fuses can be considered energy limiting, damage to equipment can be minimized thus reducing the time to get equipment repaired and back in service after a short circuit. This training will provide the information necessary to easily accomplish these goals through the proper selection of protective devices during system design.

Eaton Lighting2:10

Applying Wireless Technologies to Connected Lighting as a Catalyst for the Internet of Things (IoT)

Participants will gain an understanding of how the quest for energy savings has driven the evolution of lighting and control approaches towards a connected wireless platform, including the benefits of implementing wireless lighting controls over traditional lighting controls. We'll discuss the different types of standardized wireless controls technologies and learn important basic practices to ensure that wireless control operation is optimized. Gain an understanding of when it may be necessary to involve Information Technology (IT) personnel and how to address access and security concerns. Through examination of industry trends, we'll discuss how connected lighting is being used in the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) and participants will learn important criteria to assist in future-proofing system selections.

Lutze3:10

Are you Compliant? How the 2018 Edition of NFPA 79 Affects VFD Installations for OEMs and End Users

The 2018 Edition of the NFPA 79 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery was released in February of this year, and contains an important update to best practices for VFD wiring and cable selection. This seminar will explain what this update means for OEMs and end users, and provide an overview of the cable requirements that VFD applications demand.
